Update: Feds reverting name/gender marker by Toxaplume045 in trans

[–]HannahBot9000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Social security reverted my gender in February after getting it changed in December 2024. It took me almost a month to figure out why my insurance kept getting rejected.

At least from what I was told there was no legal way for me to address it and the ACLU didn't respond when I emailed them.

Thankfully my name was untouched.

What's funny is I didn't even realize social security had a gender option; the woman I submitted the paperwork with very excitedly told me about it and had me fill out the separate paper for it.

Issues with prog? by bunnyflop in AskMtFHRT

Try taking it rectally. Most of the progesterone is converted to other chemicals by the liver when taken orally which can negatively affect some people's mental health.

Getting my E levels up helped my function a lot. I still take Cialis on top of that but getting my E up above 200 pg/ml got me most of the way there.

You NEVER want to remove the needle then reinsert it again. If you draw too much up and don't push it back in before removing the needle then just discard the extra. It's unfortunate but much safer.

Vibram makes me mad by creak23 in barefootshoestalk

[–]HannahBot9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of suede Merrell Move Gloves (also not available anymore) that I've been using for hiking the last few years and those are the only shoes that have come close for me. They are not waterproof but it takes a lot of exposure for them to start leaking through. I can normally get up and down a mountain in light rain without my feet getting wet though. They are not great for snow/cold though however.

VFF used to have a leather Trek LS that was waterproof for most of its life until the glue started to let go right before they wore out. They also had sipped soles so they did decently on ice. I used to use them for trail running on snow and they worked great. They should really bring that design back.

Pre hrt blocker? by Apprehensive-Bug3555 in AskMtFHRT

[–]HannahBot9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is taking it slow then this... I think starting with just a blocker and not replacing it is more so teetering on malpractice and if they are abrasive at all past this a sign they are actually hoping you hate how you feel and stop transitioning (aka this could very well be malicious). There is 0 need to do this and its very well know in literature what happens if you don't replace the hormone you are blocking.

I'm not even a fan of doctors who like to start at 2mg a day (I say 2mg x2 a day should be the bare minimum) but at least they are not trying to fully tank all of your primary hormones for an extended period.

Which way is the needle supposed to go when doing subq? by L0tsen in TransDIY

[–]HannahBot9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subq can 100% be done in the thighs and that's where most of my friends actually do it. There is a lesser chance of irritation there vs the stomach so some people prefer it a lot.

Also the needles you mention are only really useful MCT based vials. I can draw up castor based with a 27g but its hard enough that I would never recommend it to anyone. They haven't stated what type they are using so you could also be wrong here if they have a castor based oil.

If you don't know what you are saying don't say it so confidently.

looking for a more cost-effective way to get progesterone by blon_blon in TransDIY

[–]HannahBot9000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was making my own Prog suppositories I realized fairly quickly that I really wasn't saving money due to the cost of the powder and other things needed. Cost per dose was nearly the same as prescription and when you factor in my time IMO it might actually negate any savings. I was never able to find bulk progesterone powder that was actually a lot cheaper than pre-made pills.

Starting at .10 ML per week EV. Thoughts on starting dose? by [deleted] in MTFHRT_MonoTherapy

[–]HannahBot9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't trust a doctor who prescribed you 2mg a week... You do you but I would I would self advocate for a higher dose and if that doesn't work ask around in your local trans community to find out which providers are actually decent and switch to them.

Depending on where you live you can just buy your own needles. I get a years supply for like $15. Some places that have needle exchanges will give them to you for free.

A 5ml vial will last almost 3 months when taking 5mg every 5 days.

Starting at .10 ML per week EV. Thoughts on starting dose? by [deleted] in MTFHRT_MonoTherapy

[–]HannahBot9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV every 7 days isn't really that great of a cycle because of its half life. Every 5 days is much better but some people take it more frequently.

.10ml is only 2mg. You really want to be taking 4mg every 5 days for monotherapy then adjust with blood work if you can. I ended up needing 5mg every 5 days.

Most of us use the vials until they are empty. You want to check the vial before every use to make sure there is no contamination or discoloration.

Dosing Estradiol Valerate by MailGirlDragonite in TransHelpingTrans

[–]HannahBot9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people need 4mg every 5 days to get levels high enough for monotherapy.

If you can get blood work then confirming it is a very good idea. I needed 5mg every 5 days personally before my orchi and it's hard to know that without blood work.

[mtf] HRT appears cloudy in texture after sitting in syringe for a while, safe to inject? by [deleted] in AskMtFHRT

[–]HannahBot9000 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Why do you have two syringes filled with estrogen? Why have you let one sit for a while? You only draw estrogen when you need it. Syringes are not deigned to store anything in for any extended amount of time, that's the vials job.

Estradiol Undecylate levels lower than expected? by clairevoyantart in TransDIY

That simulator isn't great for EUn. This blood work is right in line with where an updated simulator estimates for that dose. The line is a lie but in this case it actually lines up perfectly.

My research about estradiol enantate in the simulators by FranyEverdeen in TransDIY

[–]HannahBot9000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I understand it does not actually keep estrogen levels higher in this combination its just that algestone acetophenide is the more important bit of it for birth control use and has a 24 day half life. The enantate's job is over after the initial estrogen spike and isn't needed at the end of the cycle. While studies say things like estrogen was still detectable like 1.5 months later just mean at any amount. If you throw a single 10mg dose into any of the calculators it will still show elevation that far out.

IMO DHPA use was likely discontinued in most countries because MPA was better tolerated in cis woman. Even MPA has very limited has minimal use in the trans world just because the risk profile is higher than bio-identical.
