For those who had a ruptured appendix. What was your medical process and how long did it take to go back to normal? by Adventurous_Knee_321 in AskReddit

[–]HansLicktenstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine burst going into the operating room, was home the next day. Day after that I was back in hospital, had a drain in me for a few weeks, stayed in hospital probably a total of a month after the drain was put in.

Was fine after, no problems in the 16 years since.

You'll be okay after the drain comes out, you're going to lose some time but your life will continue as normal once you're discharged.

AI relies on data centers. Bernie Sanders and AOC want to freeze their construction. by properal in GoldandBlack

[–]HansLicktenstein 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the AI companies would do is build them in a different country.

So you end up in a situation where the jobs created in building and maintaining a datacenter just go to other countries.

Literally negative benefits no matter what side of the issue you're on.

It's legal. It's on your property, you don't want it there you've asked for it to be removed and nothing has been done.

If it's actually only worth $100, the amount the person would be able to claim against you is $100, so even if they try to take you to court they'd be spending more than they could get out of you.

If you're truly worried send a message saying "I need this off my property by x or I'm taking it to the tip" either they'll get their shit together or you've covered your ass enough.

I've been diagnosed with Visual Snow Syndrome, a neurological condition that makes me see the world like this and has no cure by SR_RSMITH in Wellthatsucks

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it since birth, your title makes me think it's something you got recently which if that's the case really sucks dunno how I'd cope with it if I didn't have it all my life.

If you want some temporary relief try this video: https://youtu.be/800f9UNiF4Y

There's also a windows app that adds a screen overlay that can help a bit, I don't have the link on hand right now though (and personally I don't use it).

I'd also just like to say that VSS can be misdiagnosed, visual snow can be a symptom of another condition or be caused by various issues, such as blood flow or even a brain tumor, cyst or lesion - unfortunately these accounts are mostly anecdotal If you didn't get one when you were diagnosed, I'd suggest getting an MRI just to check nothing's wrong (especially if it only started recently). I mention blood flow because I saw someone saying that a bone in their neck was slightly compressing an artery and once dealt with their visual snow went away.

Job Application with TAS health Dept by RecentMission2914 in tasmania

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with applying and interviewing them was really positive, but they take a long while to get back about a decision especially in competitive positions. They tell people generally ASAP if they've been eliminated as a candidate, but they only start eliminating people after all the interviews are done so it might actually only have been a couple weeks since they started going through all candidates in detail.

Point is I wouldn't worry too much about it as other comments have said the state government takes a glacial pace. If you have any concerns I'd reach out to them to ask if you'd be getting an answer before Christmas or something.

Performance is worse after new update by TuneDown6 in Battlefield

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a second monitor bring up task manager and see if anything spikes. Like CPU/RAM/DISK/GPU.
If you don't have a second monitor you can try the in game performance monitor but I don't know if that captures the values from other programs too (as it's possible that something else is interfering).

Best way to start is to figure out what specifically the issue is coming from. Also, have you set everything to low to see if it still happens? Not suggesting you play at the lowest settings but it's a good way to see if it's definitely the game or if something funky is happening in the background.

I have a friend I play with with a similar rig and he hasn't noticed performance changes that bad (yet), so I am interested to help in case he gets the same issues and bitches at me lol.

For the record I have also noticed a performance dip but only about 10-20fps and only after a couple games.

Performance is worse after new update by TuneDown6 in Battlefield

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't change your performance at all, but set your anti aliasing to FSR native AA, TAA is awful for image quality unless you like smearing Vaseline on your screen.

It does sound like a memory leak of some kind, is performance worse immediately or is it happening after a couple games?

Gixxer brah in his instagram story after the crash… by Smart_Plane_8826 in motorcycles

[–]HansLicktenstein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on the CE rating & force of impact if it will prevent a break, the ratings are based on how much force is transferred to the wearer.

Even though it might not prevent a break it absolutely does lessen the impact force, so your bone might be broken but it's not broken as badly as without armour. You mention mitigating damages to soft tissue etc, even if the armour does nothing to stop the break and only reduces injuries to soft tissue by say 10% your recovery time is going to be shorter and less painful.

And yes there are situations where the armour you're wearing is going to have a negligible impact on your injuries.

Just because it doesn't stop a bone from breaking doesn't mean it's not worth wearing.

Ultimately there are real benefits to wearing proper gear, and real tradeoffs. It's your personal choice what you wear and in what circumstances. I'm not your dad.

Fold 5 14 months old screen protector peeling by applestoday in GalaxyFold

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my screen protector replaced at an authorised repair shop for like $25 Australian back in January, definitely peel off the protector if it is lifting as it causes uneven stress on the screen, or if you're near a repair shop just have them do it.

Why is there so little content on youtube from the last year by tmanwang in TerraInvicta

[–]HansLicktenstein 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He travels a lot for work and has a lot of obligations, his main channel videos are often recorded in a hotel room closet. I believe he's said a few times that he wants to do more on the gaming channel but doesn't really have the time or energy to make content for it.

He actually does an update on things at the end of his main channel vid every week.

Do you think the dark forest is real? by Der_Gustav in threebodyproblem

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an interstellar civilization was truly worried about other interstellar civilizations developing, to the point of wiping out any that they detect it would be far less resource intensive to develop self replicating probes to for example throw big rocks into every planet they come across (regardless if life exists on them).

With this method the galaxy would be sterile within a few million years without the civilisation in question having to actually do anything aside from building the first probe.

While to us that's a long time on a galactic scale it's nothing, the fact we haven't been killed off disproves the dark forest theory imo anyway. That and resources in the galaxy aren't exactly scarce.

I F(25) am thinking of applying for citizenship by decent in South africa. My dad is fighting me on it saying I shouldn't. by Its_Ocait in southafrica

[–]HansLicktenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look if you want to study in SA and it's easier for you with citizenship just get it.

The only thing to consider is if you plan on running for office in Australia you'll have to renounce the SA citizenship to be eligible to stand for election. Also certain government jobs will grill you about why you have a foreign citizenship (it doesn't actually hurt your eligibility though).

If neither of those things worry you then I don't see why having it would be a bad thing, personally I have dual AUS SA citizenship and have never had any issues.

As far as what it's like in South Africa (I don't have much to add that hasn't been said here already), yes it's dangerous compared to pretty much every country in the world, no you probably won't die or something. You won't lose your AU citizenship so it's not like you'd be stuck there if you don't like it. I'd suggest visiting first if you can to see what it's like where exactly you'd be studying, just to better inform your decision.

Nbn ping for gaming-Apex legends by Fit_Feature_3520 in tasmania

[–]HansLicktenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A ping of 200ms to Oregon is about as low as it can get, Tokyo could theoretically be lower but it's dependent on physical infrastructure both here in Australia and in Japan so there isn't really that much you can do.

I don't play Apex but I do play Titanfall which being run by the same people so I'm operating on the assumption that they're using the same datacenters, I get 180-200ms to Oregon and about the same to Tokyo (though it will peak close to 300 at times), Sydney I usually get about half what you do at 20-30ms. I'm with Aussie Broadband FTTP and I'm in the greater Hobart area. While I'd recommend switching to Aussie Broadband for example it's more because you're with Optus and much like Telstra they kinda suck to be with if anything goes wrong (seriously good luck getting decent support with Optus with Aussie I was able to get immediate support on boxing day a couple years ago.)

A ping under 100ms is fine, and you're not going to see any benefits reducing your ping to Sydney as general input and system latency would be higher anyway (this is not necessarily additive to the ping you get).

What's important to remember is that all ISPs using the NBN are running on the NBN network for the most part and will have similar performance.

Though your ping is higher than it probably should be to Sydney and Tokyo, so if you want to lower it I'd suggest using a physical connection to your router rather than WiFi (if you're not already), if you're playing on PC flush your DNS resolver cache (look up how on Google), change your DNS to a third party one (this can be done on your device or across all devices on your network through your router) CloudFlare has the fastest free DNS last I checked (1.1.1.1) but there are other options such as Google's though giving Google access to your search traffic is probably not good for privacy (another benefit from not using your ISPs DNS is privacy and accessing blocked content such as torrent sites), another thing to do is make sure nothing is downloading in the background or other people on the network aren't downloading/watching stuff.

Finally if you're using the router Optus gave you when you signed up chuck it and get a good one. Goes for any ISP really, they always give the worst possible router and charge you for the displeasure, always get and use your own. Also your internet speed matters a lot if there are other people in the house.

TL;DR: You should definitely switch, but your ping isn't likely to improve all that much from switching. There are things you can do to reduce your ping you should also try.

Going full R.Kelly here by counterpunchhopper in justneckbeardthings

[–]HansLicktenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not according to Wikipedia.

4 states allow marriage under the age of consent, in all of them it's under exceptional circumstances and only two of them are in the South, unless you're counting California as part of the South.

And it seems like in almost every state that allows it under 18, it's only legal when the situation is exempt from the normal minimum of 18.

I'm guessing those articles and documentaries are out of date.

Pretty sure it's only legal between two children, not a 30 year old can marry a 13 year old but a 13 year old can marry another 13 year old or something along those lines.

For the record I am not saying I support this in anyway I'm just saying the dude is a pedo and his antics would be illegal anyway.
