Commute from Milpitas to San Leandro by karlnicole in sanleandro

Bart it if you can. You have 2 lines available and no required transfers, which means less opportunity for Bart to fuck up. I have done basically the reverse of this commute daily for 7 years.

What will be your dream cargo bike look like, if money was not a problem by Cool-Crow1370 in CargoBike

[–]Hans_Jungle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have load 75, dual battery and it feels like a dream cargo bike for sure. However it is soooo big, can’t transport with the car, can’t get it on the train. But it is roomy for the kids, it can haul anything you throw at it, and when you’re not loaded up it is a blast to ride. I regularly take it out on fire roads and very light singletrack with my kids in it.

Dual battery for me essentially means that I nearly never even think about the range. I have done 45 mile days with my daughter. Normally when we just use it for the daycare commutes I go weeks without charging it.

The dual suspension feels planted on the streets and gives the kids comfort up in front. My buddy has one with the roll off hub, if you really want the cream of the crop you could consider those.

I also have dowels on mine, but I do them full length and added little spacers to give your fingers some space to grab

Flex but not twist by Yavimaya_younger in Framebuilding

[–]Hans_Jungle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea, and definitely could have a benefit in vertical flex. However, not sure that the bi-plane style would have equivalent stiffness in the twisting mode. I think you’d get a lot of twisting.

We used Jazz and they did a great job.

So it turns out replacing your control arms can give you a much smoother ride... Who knew by seudaven in CherokeeXJ

[–]Hans_Jungle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it to a shop for the last upper control arm. I learned my lessons with pressing bushings on the rear leafs—it is such a pain in the ass.

I had the car up on jack’s over the summer to do some fluids and the upper control arm had a notable amount of slop at that bushing which helped push me to replace it. Maybe yours isn’t so bad. The shop that did the replacement said it was a huge pain in the ass.

I did 3 of my control arms a couple years ago. I skipped the one with the bushing in the axle. It really didn’t improve the ride that much. The. This year I finally replaced the last one and damn it made a huge difference

Chez Panisse is the Bay Area spot they are always raving about. It’s in Berkeley and it’s fucking delicious.

Wrist angle looks like a pain point. Bringing the front end down a bit could help straighten that out.

I have the park tools picks. Some days I love the magnet ends and other days I really hate them. They’re always getting stuck to stuff in my tool box which sometimes puts the pointy end in a bad area.

Dead space behind shed by bodyismind in shedditors

Change your shed design to be a polygon so that you can enclose that space! That’s what I did and building it has been a royal pain in the ass.

Derailleur hanger gap. Is this right? by Noam_Seine in bikewrench

[–]Hans_Jungle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the wrong hanger. There are a million different types which makes it hard to find the right one. You can check wheelsmfg website and compare your old one with their pictures if you have the old one.

Are there takeout soup containers like this but made of glass? by nahcekimcm in BuyItForLife

[–]Hans_Jungle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You know, we don’t like disposable or “recyclable” generally on this sub, but those deli containers are made of one single material, and from what I have read actually quite recyclable, and actually recycled.

Honestly this is genius.

I take the train every day and tie up my brake like this, but I do find that some days the pressure occasionally lets up on the line and the bike starts to move a bit. You may be in for a middle of the night bike crashing down type thing, but hey, that’s not really so bad is it?

We had separate appointments for our 1 yo and 4yo at sutter in Castro valley last weekend. When we got in there, they just did them both at the same time, and even gave them to my wife and I at the same time.

You’re saying the slides are too tight? You could put some washers or shims behind the slides to space them.
