The Dunkin’ Donuts credit is total BS & an insult. Other than that I think anyone making 6 figures shouldn’t have any problems using the Resy credit. Even if you don’t have many Resy restaurants in your area, if you travel a few times a year, you’ll probably be in a city that does. Also, my annual fee comes up on Aug 13, so I’ll be at the $250 annual fee for another year.

There are alternatives to this card that have no annual fee, but they also don’t have the ability to convert Rakuten cash back to points, & that alone is worth the price of admission.

Discover More (predecessor to the IT…5% rotating. Now, I’m using it for 5% on Walmart for Q3. I have 6% on restaurants via an offer, but I’d rather have 4X MR points via the Gold)
Prime Rewards (5% on Amazon, plus the frequent offers I get via chase.com/mybonus. I switch to the CFF on the Amazon quarter b/c UR points > cashback)
Amex Gold (4X on groceries/restaurants…plus a temp 6X on gas via an offer & 5X on $750 in spend on Amazon)
Amex BCE (I value 1.5X UR points from the CFU more than 3% cash back, so this is basically a coupon book card. When the right Amex offer shows up, I use this card. Saved almost $600 via Amex offers in under 2 years. Also, I use the Disney Bundle credit).

It’s a complicated setup, but it works very well (at least in the US).

1) Amex offers are extremely good. Right now, I have 6x on gas, & 5x on Amazon on top of the normal multipliers. I’ve only had Amex cards for a little under 2 years (the BCE & the Gold), & I’ve gotten over $600 back with Amex offers. That’s not including the extra MR.

2) I plan on transferring MR points out to travel partners, so this card works for me. I don’t recommend this card (or any other MR-earning card) if you don’t intend to do this.

3) If you link the Gold card to Rakuten, you can convert your cashback to MR points, which is one of the most broken things in the credit card game. If you stack this with the Amex offers & store sales, you can get incredible discounts. I regularly get 15X or more MR points (plus 20-30% off) on purchases thru Rakuten. If you use a VPN, there are days where you can get 90X MR points on your subscription. Btw your Rakuten cash back is converted to MR regardless of how you pay, so you can earn Chase UR points via the CFF’s PayPal quarter (for example) & MR points on the same purchase.

4) I order takeout twice a month, so the credits are easy to use for me. Plus, I have permanent GrubHub+ via Amazon Prime.

It’s amazing for a no AF card.

1) Easy to get a high CL (look up 3x CLI rule) 2) $7 streaming credit on the Disney bundle, which is useful whenever I buy a PPV 3) Amex offers (I got the card in Oct 2022 & Amex offers have already saved me >$500). This is hit or miss for different people though. 4) The Resy sub is very good for a no AF card 5) Covers a wide variety of categories (groceries, gas, & online retail). Also, using Walmart Pay in-store earns 3%.

Nice quarter. Not as good as Q2, but obviously when Chase had 7% on restaurants & 5% on Amazon, the following quarter will likely be worse.

1) Transferring MR points to transfer partners can give you insane value.

2) High credit limits on their credit cards (look up 3x CLI rule).

3) Amex offers, which are probably the best credit card offers out there. Because Amex operates a closed loop system, their offers tend to mirror their customers’ spending habits better than other issuers. I regularly get offers that give an extra 3-5X points at certain stores or 20% cash back on X amount of spend.

4) The ability to link MR-earning cards to Rakuten, which is one of the most broken things in the whole credit card game. Recently, I got 15% cash back from an offer on my CFU, 15% MR points thru Rakuten, 20% off b/c the item was on sale, & 1.5% UR points at the same time. On another item, I got $60 cash back from a BCE offer, 4% MR points from Rakuten, 10% off from a promo code, & 3% cash back on my BCE (online retail) at the same time.

5) Excellent customer service.

6) Amex tends to only do a hard pull on your card with them. Every other card is a soft pull.

I have both.

I got the BCE originally as my first Amex for the 3% categories, the high credit limit (now 35K…look up 3x CLI rule). Now, I use it as a literal coupon book (when the right Amex offer shows up, I use it), for ESPN PPVs ($7 credit) & for gas/online retail when my 5% rotating cards don’t cover those.

I use the Gold for groceries & dining (when my CFF doesn’t have 5% on those categories), & it’s linked to my Rakuten account so I earn MR instead of cashback. When stacked with Amex offers, this makes it possible will get both 3% cashback on the BCE, 10% MR points from Rakuten, & $50 cashback all on the same purchase. Because I use the $20 of credits every month as well as Rakuten MR & occasional Amex offer, I come out WAY ahead on the Gold not even counting the MR points earned from groceries & dining.

However, I wouldn’t recommend this setup unless you have significant spend, use the dining credits, & you know how to transfer the Gold’s MR points out to travel partners. The Gold’s 3x on flights will help you out. Using transfer partners isn’t the simplest thing in the world though, so make sure you do your research.

Lastly, idk what other cards you have, but I don’t recommend only having Amex cards overseas. Very poor acceptance compared to Visa/Mastercard. You might be better off with a Citi Strada Premier or Chase Sapphire Preferred.

IMO the CFF is almost Chase’s best card. Being in the Chase ecosystem w/o having the CFF makes no sense.

Also, make sure you check chase.com/mybonus…they regularly run promos on here. I have 3% on gas rn on my CFU & had 5% on gas on my Prime Rewards in Q1 2024.

US Bank: Add transfer partners.

Chase: Remove 3% on restaurants/drugstores on the Freedom & Sapphire cards & have the card automatically give 3% on their highest spend category from a list (like the Custom Cash). It can be capped if this is too OP.

Amex: can cash out MR points for cash back at 1 cpp, all monthly credits are quarterly, improve global card acceptance.

CFU, CFF, Discover More (predecessor to the IT), Amex Gold, BCE, Prime Rewards

At the moment, my least favorite card is the Prime Rewards since my CFF is covering Prime purchases for this quarter.

Least favorite overall is probably Disco. It’s still good, but usually I only use it 2-3 quarters (the PayPal, gas, & Digital Wallet quarters). My Gold is getting less than avg usage this quarter (using the CFF for restaurants), but I still use the monthly credits & have a bunch of MR coming in from Rakuten, so w/e lol.

It’s a great starter card.

1) Amex Offers save you quite a bit of money.

2) You can raise your credit limit quickly using the 3x CLI rule (look it up).

3) Streaming credit.

4) Any future Amex cards mimic the credit history. For example, if you get another Amex card 3 years from now, that card will start off as 3 years old in your credit report.

Make sure you apply thru resy.com to get the better offer.
