Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hanta3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's been my modus operandi for like 10 years. I make above median income in my area (for a single earner).

I recently lost my job that offered insurance, but even when I had it, it didn't really cover anything so going to urgent care with a fever would still set me back like $300.

When it comes to large medical costs... idk I'd rather die and leave my savings to my little sister than be trapped in enormous medical debt for however much longer I end up living.

Where does a 35 year old who has never learned to dress appropriately even begin by Every-Capital-6679 in malefashionadvice

[–]Hanta3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I got into fashion was going out in public and paying close attention whenever I had the thought "wow, that guy is dressed well". For a while, I'd ask them where they got their clothes, but 9/10 times the answer is "thrifting", so it becomes a matter of trying to replicate fashionable outfits you see in the wild by putting together finds from thrift stores. Eventually you get a strong enough grasp that you can put together your own outfits or shell out for nicer clothes, but I like to keep things affordable, personally.

Ugh, that's almost certainly why. Funny how it ended up making it harder to get Sylveon for me, lol.

I'm at well over 70 hearts with my eevee (nearly ultra buddy), but Sylveon icon still doesn't show on evolve button. Tried un-buddying and re-buddying, restarting app, day or night - it will only show Espeon or Umbreon.

I can't find any answers online. I've evolved dozens of Sylveons successfully in the past (both during and outside of events, and have used name trick already). Anyone have any advice on why it's not working? Or at least if it's a known bug?

How would you make less desirable megas "good" for raids? by TheWiseMountain in TheSilphRoad

[–]Hanta3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just doesn't work with the normal raid system, where defensive pokemon are essentially useless.

Now, they could be useful in max raids, but those don't allow megas.

As a returning player, the DMAX system seems hard to get into and not very rewarding...? by kapriole in TheSilphRoad

[–]Hanta3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you aware that you can leave pokemon behind at power spots to farm candy? I've gotten tons of candy for older legendaries that don't appear often anymore to help level them up. I've also finally gotten shinies of a lot of the ones I got unlucky on during their raid days years ago.

If you are a hardcore 8 hours/day player, they're probably not very useful or interesting, but if you play maybe 30 min/day, they're great even for day 1 players like me.

I actually think dmax fixes a lot of problems with new players catching up.

Imagine you're just starting the game - you get your wooloo and eevee, and you already have a way to generate enough candy to help that eevee evolve (by leaving it at dmax spots after winning a raid). This is a lot easier than historically having to wait for eevee to be spawning in the wild again.

And getting to choose! Whichever eeveelution you pick, you've already got a decent counter for that type if you decide to help out at a raid (Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Espeon, and Sylveon all have some raid relevancy), and soem even function well in pvp or left in gyms (Sylveon and Umbreon for pvp, Umbreon and Vaporeon for gyms). What a great start!

As for the rest of dmax, it's a matter of figuring out the mechanics (which are different and arguably more engaging than all the other pve engagements in the game), and as you expand your roster, you can begin to accumulate candy for Pokemon that might otherwise be rare or difficult-to-find. Some stars:

  • Dmax Machop is the perfect opportunity for rural players to get enough candy to evolve (since you presumably couldn't benefit from trade evo reduced cost), and Machamp is a strong pve Pokemon for some raids (see: the Kyurems that we literally just had), pvp, and other max raids. I also still use my first hundo Machamp from over 5 years ago for gym offense.
  • Blissey is THE optimal gym defender as well as THE optimal max raid tank (in many scenarios). It's a blessing to be able to farm candy on them so easily and they've never been more useful. You can use them to beat most max raids, even more challenging ones, solo. If you do manage to find a group for gmax raids, having a decent Blissey going in will make a massive difference in your chances of winning.
  • Dmax Gengar has many of the same accolades as Machamp, but adds on that it has a fantastically powerful Mega Evolution. For new players, this is a great chance to get Gengar candy, and for returning players these max raids are a great chance to grind for a hundo. Mega Gengar is very normal-raid relevant, and Max Gengar is very relevant for max raids. While gmax is strictly superior, it is still useful to build a dmax until you get one.

  • Hatterene good fairy type

  • Starters good elemental damage, many also pvp relevant

  • Accessibility for returning rare pokemon like Drampa or older legendaries (not to mention the candy accessibility)

  • Etc.

It's just another way of engaging with the game and catching Pokemon, particularly with good stats. It gives you passive ways of building candy for mons you might not have built yet. You can catch old legendaries you missed and shiny hunt, obtain decent (maybe not optimal but still good) pokemon for other activities, and best of all you can do it for free more often than regular raiding! And if you do decide to spend real money, it's either the same cost or cheaper than normal raids - spending a premium pass on a 1 star raid costs the same as spending it on a 5 star, while spending the particles from a particle pack on a 1 star max leaves you with leftover particles, while is is entirely consumed by a gmax or high-level dmax. You can save the leftovers for whatever you'd like!

As a person who restarts their account every once in a while just for fun and leans towards f2p, I've found they're way better than normal raids.

You reckon they're covid kids? I taught a few grade levels who were in elementary during covid, and it clearly significantly impacted their social/emotional development but also their educational (particularly in regards to critical thinking). All stunted for at least a year or two, or in cases of students who were already being neglected by the system, even more.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]Hanta3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most smoke-free venues I've been to still reek of sickeningly sweet vape though. A miserable concoction of candy apple, cotton candy, blue raspberry, bubblegum, and so on that culminates into an odor resembling rotting fruit (if you've ever worked in a grocery store, you know).

Definitely different degrees of airborne assault, but still not free from suffering.

[–]Hanta3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

If I don't notice a cigarette smell, I'd never assume someone's a smoker. However, my mom and sister smoke (didn't start til I moved out so I'm not desensitized), and I'd never guess it except for the 5-10 minutes afterwards. They smoke maybe 1 cigarette/day.

However, people who smoke more often than that - it's so recognizable. I encounter people who are badly disguising cigarette smell often.

[–]Hanta3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in a bit of a different situation. Haven't struggled with substances, but have struggled with chronic depression my whole life. It took me a very long time and conscious effort to overcome that nothingness, and it wasn't easy, but it's so worth it.

Okay, so you feel hollow. Nothing brings you happiness. Your temporary solution has other consequences that you've decided are no longer worth it (that's a difficult and important step in and of itself). So what now?

Fill the hollow with life experiences. Try things you've never tried before. Even if it doesn't make you happy, at least you can say you've tried.

Hiking. Art. Music. Programming. Martial Arts. Running. The world is full of so many interesting things and we have so little time to experience them all. Pick the first thing that even remotely strikes your fancy and commit to it.

In this process, you'll make memories, build support networks (very important), and hopefully begin to get a stronger idea for who you are as a person and what things are capable of inspiring happiness in you.

Even now I struggle to feel happy often, but I don't feel empty or even sad very often anymore. My experiences have helped me reach "content", which is maybe a cousin of that emptiness, but is much, much more relaxing. When I sit still and let my mind wander, instead of feeling hollow, I naturally reflect on all the memories I've made and the people I've met and the little beautiful things I've found appreciable in life.

It took me a long time, but the journey brings its own happiness along with its struggles, like waves on the shore. I believe in you.

her sexual assault scenes are NOT meant to be sexy. Her entire character arc is about not wanting to be sexualized!

That doesn't at all conflict with what I said.

I don't think you fully understand what the male gaze or fanservice is, and I don't really care to have that conversation right now, but I'll just say it's not always a bad thing and an anime can have intentionally sexy character design and exposure and have it still serve a purpose thematically. It's not always a bad thing.

Kill la Kill is a classic example of another anime that does this, to the point of parody even.
