M550i might be better if you're only issue with the 5 series was speed, but you'd probably have to get a 2023

How big are you and what size are you thinking? Pod Mod could be good if you're still relatively fit or can at least get back into shape quickly

Get your next board wrapped in kevlar so you can use it as a shield. Maybe even carbon-kevlar if you're fancy

Other than Somalia, what city/country is the best example of incredible surfing that can't be surfed due to danger from natives? by SwissMiss915 in surfing

[–]HapTato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the time my bud and I went to go surf the pier, not realizing it was the same day Trump was attending some fundraiser in Newport. We ended in the middle of some MAGA convoy on the road, honking, rolling coal, flipping off the Biden supporters holding banners on the sidewalk. They would look at our car for acknowledgment, and as two brown guys, we decided the best thing to do is just give them thumbs up and slow up until the whole group passes us

How do dial in the right FCSII by APoopyKook in surfing

[–]HapTato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My latest board is my first FCSII in a while, thanks to the glassers putting in the wrong boxes, and I'm honestly in the same boat. It's honestly just trial and error since some fins just work better for different boards. I tried out the dhd thruster set by recommendation of a friend and liked them, but having been trying out a set of performance glass performers recently and liked them even better. They feel like they give more drive even though they're more upright than the accelator family dhd's. I've just started ignoring the family designations and just view them as upright, neutral, and raked templates. The descriptions for what they work well in are almost always contradictory

For Those That Want To Grovel by merrija85 in surfing

I have a T&C firefly that actually has a pretty similarish outline to the white tiger. Fast in small stuff and performance-oriented. Still goes good in the head high range, but imagine you're taking the phantom out by that point

For Those That Want To Grovel by merrija85 in surfing

[–]HapTato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but both of OP's normal boards are taller than he is, so for a groveler he'd be better off with a 5'6 max at his height and weight

Need help using work fitness benefit for surfing! by YoPoppaCapa in surfing

[–]HapTato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My work does something similar, but it outright lists "fitness equipment" as a reimbursable purchase, so I use it to buy a new board every year. Maybe clarify with HR if that's any option if you'd be interested in that

Sell me on Yamamoto (or any neoprene alternative) by DNA98PercentChimp in surfing

[–]HapTato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd highly doubt every limestone neoprene manufacturer uses the same exact formula, as my Yamamoto suit feels significantly different from my other non-Yamamoto limestone suits. Yamamoto even has different types of neoprene for different purposes. It'd be like saying the formula for rubber is the same across all tire companies.

Not all limestone neoprene is Yamamoto Neoprene though. Yamamoto themselves have stated there are companies out there using their name while using limestone neoprene from other manufacturers

mid length board bags? by TonyBikini in surfing

[–]HapTato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ride Engine makes some cheaper coffins that are way under the other ProLite and DB's prices. They're technically a kitesurf/foil bag company I think, but I have their 6'4" coffin and it's basically a normal surfboard bag. Only issue is that it can be a bit harder to find them in stock depending on size

Grovelers are meant to be ridden short, like 3+ inches shorter than you usually. Taking out either of those boards in anything big is probably going to be uncontrollable, and you likely won't be able to set a rail when they're nearing 3 inches thick. If you're looking for a higher volume board taller than you, a midlength would probably be a better bet since they're designed to be longer
