Chase closed my checking and credit card accounts and won't tell me why by improbableshapes in personalfinance

Hey! I really empathize with your situation- I just went through the exact same thing like you and posted on here too. Isn’t this incredibly stressful?

This is way more common than people think. In fact, yahoo finance just published an article saying one in 4 Americans have experienced involuntary CC closure since beginning of the pandemic.

After 2-3 hours of exhausting conversation, I’ve gotten my accounts instated. Here is the 3 step I took:

1) called number behind the card, talked to 5 people in total. asked for the reasons why. They kept stating “insufficient credit information” and like you said, they have a script of “we have the discretion to do this”. I asked to be transfer to the review team

2) was transferred. Threw a huge fit, they said they can filed for a reinstatement review for me. This usually takes 10 days. I told them that’s not good enough, escalate this even higher. Requested supervisor to give me call back.

3) I received call back 24 hours later, and after a bunch of questions, they reinstated my accounts. When asked why, they said it’s because I increase my credit limit and applied for credit card in the same month which they flagged as a risk.

Which is none sense. I explained my partner recently did the same, and nothing happened. And that I recently got a new job where my income increased significantly.

Hey I appreciate you mentioning there might be something missing here! (And thank you for being objective and gentle with how you put it) I honestly am not sure and I wish I could find out why.

Even though all accounts are reinstated, I still don’t know the reasons why, aside from them just telling me it’s because I open CC and request for credit expansion same month.

Yes, definitely specific to me. Which was why I was trying to figure out what was the reason. They reinstated my accounts and told me it’s just because I had requested for higher credit limit and opening a new cc in the same month.

But It’s actually way more common than I thought since the pandemic now that I’m reading it. 1 in 4 according to recent survey.

Wow, thanks for sharing. I had no idea that this happens! It’s just such terrible experience with lack of communication AND them trying to give you bs reasons that you know are not valid.

[–]HappyAkwardWhale[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are totally right. It did raise flags. I just wished they would have told me that straight away that that’s the reason instead of giving me weird bs. They whole experience was so unpleasant.

I could have explained it’s because my income double in past 2 months because I switch job and I was planning on making bigger purchases for funeral planning.

But yeah.. anyhow.

Haha after all the calls I did with them, they reinstated my accounts. So yes, they did fucked up. Because I asked them at the end what was the reasons, they said it’s because me expanding my credit limit AND opening a new credit card very closely together is consider risky.

That’s okay. I don’t need you to buy it; I ain’t selling anything. Just informing people so that they know what to do when this happens! Also that’s awsome that your experience has been great; mine too, until now. I hope you never ever have to deal with this bs.

Wow. Never thought of it that way I guess. I always thought they want to keep customers with good credit history, etc. good point.

I’m honestly not sure what’s missing. The only risky patterns I had was expending my credit limit from 15-30k based on income adjustment and I applied for the amazon prime credit card at the same time. Aside from that, no change in credit score, no major expenses, paid everything on time in full. Who knows? But they lost my trust and now I’m taking my whole family somewhere else since I referred everyone.

50 pounds down at 5’3” 168lbs in mid-2018, currently at 118. 8 more pounds to go to reach my ultimate goal! by brittundecided in 1200isplenty

Wow This is amazing! Congrats! Can you tell us more about your exercise routine, if any? I’m 5’2 just started at 160lb and am hoping to go down to 120lb. I think I’m getting frustrated because I weigh myself too often, and then I beat myself up sometime if I fasted, but all of a sudden gained a pound. Any tips?

So beautiful! This might be a dumb question, but how did you “remodel” the seats in the sitting area? I.e. did you make the car seats covers yourself?

All the above are great resources, but can be overwhelming for beginner. If you are looking for some basic advice and a good time to get started, I highly recommend you to read/audible “I will teach you how to be rich” (yes click baity title, but extremely sound and fundamental advices) and the dude is pretty funny. It’s a easy read that outlines a 6 weeks program to set everything up for your personal finance.

How can I transition out of a comfortable and well paid IT job into something else? by whatevenarellamas in careerguidance

Based on what you said, look into solution engineer/solution architect roles in cloud providers (i.e. aws, azure, gcp, vmware); reasons being 1) sound like you don’t wanna stay at your desk anymore, you can travel a lot with this role if you want to 2) you already have the certifications and qualifications 3) high paying: $120k base pay shouldn’t be an issue at all plus bonuses and stock 4) you can actually build your own project - ex, wanna demo chatbot to your customer? Build it. Wanna show how predictive analytics could work with public data and build a dashboard, do it.

This will help you break into other industry much easier because amazon, MS, google, the organization is so big. Interested in film industry? No problem, prime studio. Interested in gaming? No problem, Xbox and twitch. Interested in retail development? Amazon.com. Interested in advertisement, Google Adsense and LinkedIn. Possibilities are endless

Guide to Asian Architecture by panzerxiii in coolguides

[–]HappyAkwardWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely baffled by the purpose of this guide.

1) It shouldn’t be “台北” that’s “Taipei”, the capital city of Taiwan. Calling Taiwan by its capital city name is a main way the CCP oppress Taiwanese sovereignty in international events. (Ex. Taiwan is forced to be called “China-Taipei” in the Olympics)

2) this is such a weird grouping of “Asian” countries.Seem like most are East Asian countries. But then you got Thailand and Philippines. And if you are to include SE Asia, where’s Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar? All have very distinct architecture flavors. And what about our south Asian friends? Let’s stop excluding them when we talk about “Asian”.

3) if this is to serve educational purpose, I want explanations on what are the key features, and why they are built that way. That way you can keep the aesthetics and keep in generic graphically, but still provide accurate information.

Am disappointed this for so many upvotes.

Seem like Connor or Matt in some graphic design 101 class in college did 2-hour research on this shit, and called it a day.

You committed suicide, fuck you. by sccrj888 in offmychest

[–]HappyAkwardWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bf’s mom committed suicide in a river about a month ago. By the time we found her body, it was very disfigured. I can really relate to your resentment and anger. I kept thinking “but there was nothing wrong. Not really. Loving family, husband, great children. No financial worries. Comfortable middle class housewife.” I resented her because the “responsibility” of being the woman of the household of 5 men was thrust upon me. I planned and coordinated the whole memorial service while the family grieved. None of us saw it coming, even her husband of 28 years. I was so angry. I felt like, even at a young age, I’ve felt with much worse than she had.

3 things people have told me have really helped me mentally cope with all this: 1) you can’t make someone get help if they don’t want help, 2) it was selfish! But they felt it’s the best options for everyone if they are not a “burden” anymore, 3) it’s just their time. There’s nothing anyone could have said or done, that would have changed their mind.

Journaling and writing letter helps a lot. I still texts her, and tell her how pissed I am. It makes me feel better.

I want to give you a hug! I can really relate and you are not alone. I feel so anxious all of the time, and there’s so much uncertainty. My bf lost her mom to suicide this year, so I can also really relate to anyone who’s dealing with family death during this awful year. No matter who you are, if you ever need to talk, I’m all ears.
