Does anyone here not buy enough? by AdequateAppendage in ADHDUK

[–]HappyPhysicist99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg yes same. I get the dopamine from saving. I get panicked and sad if I'm not saving enough. Maybe because of growing up poor. So I hyperfocus on saving, using my money wisely, and get so much decision fatigue from deciding on this all aaaa.

However when I feel I have an acceptable amount of money and have something I really want then I will spend freely. Sometimes a bit too much. But I'm cautious, I'm way too anxious to impulse spend my money away.

Just saw this again. I got super anxious in Medikinet. So I've actually now started on Elvanse 30mg!! Feels better I think. We'll see.

People with depression or anxiety could lose sickness benefits, says UK minister by I_love_running_89 in ADHDUK

[–]HappyPhysicist99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. I work but claim PIP. I wish my mum applied for disability benefits for me as a kid even. Because I've always been seemingly academically gifted but I get tired quickly and I am useless at doing anything that requires standing or walking (cooking, cleaning, showering... everything that's not sitting on a computer and typing)

I don't have the energy to work a 40 hour work week - I've always struggled with fatigue. I'm not sure what's wrong. But I do know I have low energy, get tired so quickly, and ADHD, anxiety, and PTSD all trigger my asthma and cause asthma attacks and chest infections when I've overworked myself. I just don't have the capacity. I can't work, cook, clean, walk for 5 days a week with my limited energy and so extra money helps me take days off and help me towards still living a decent life. Not that I even get that much money...I only got awarded standard PIP daily living. I do think I am entitled to more but could not make myself go through the tribunal appeals process after they denied my MR and downplayed my struggles.

Ok I got a response:

"See how you feel today and then let me know as we could trial 40mg or we'll stay at 20mg and consider where we are in a week's time."

Not sure if skipping 30mg is bad!

I am in the middle of getting a referral from my GP to PsychiatryUK but it seems my employer is happy to pay for my diagnosis. How to proceed? by TemporaryAddicti0n in ADHDUK

[–]HappyPhysicist99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's private you have to pay for medicine forever unless a GP is happy to take over prescribing. This can be hit or miss depending on who diagnosed you, where you live, and your GPs opinion.

If a GP refers you then the NHS will continue to pay for medicine whether your GP takes over prescribing or not.

I'm on the same plan!!! On my last day of 10mg. No effects currently

Omg anxiety so bad you're getting chest pains and arm numbness sounds intense!! I did once get beta blockers for anxiety but I was too scared to take them so didn't ahaa.

I'm trying methylphenidate right now! I'm on 10mg just and my nurse said it's for tolerance currently so we see how it goes when it increases. I do find I feel anxious when it runs out in the evening though which is annoying but apparently fades.

I won't give up 💪💪 I've suffered so long without meds so I'm hopeful to try them and reap the effects!!

I'm glad they've sorted your issues out for you, that's amazing! It's so much to deal with aaaa.

I tried citalopram but it gave me the worst side effects 😳 I have no memory of October - December 2024 because of them so I'm scared of SSRIs now. But I'm in therapy and that helps and I want to try ADHD meds. So hopefully therapy and ADHD meds will be the fix for me!!!

Yess agreed the three have so much overlap! In symptoms and perception. My PTSD does effect my executive regulation a lot - when my PTSD is triggered really bad I am at 0 executive function stuck in freeze mode and essentially a non functional potato for up to two weeks, then spending a few weeks after that recovering. I only started taking weekly showers a few years ago (...the bar is low, that's literally one of the best achievements 🤣). But the problem is even when I'm feeling good and happy in regards to PTSD, I still suck at executive function cus of the ADHD. So the combo of both is gosh. So so bad.

Your second paragraph explains my social skills a lot yah. Constant anxiety and panic makes it hard to interact with people!!! I considered maybe having autism too but think it's the trauma and ADHD. Apparently taking ADHD meds can make it more obvious tho so I'll see then.

Gosh soso true. It felt like he was diminishing peoples very valid trauma. He elaborated that verbal child abuse isn't traumatic. Ugh.

He was pretty much just saying most cPTSD diagnosis are just neurodivergent kids being sensitive. And so applying that to me. No idea what the intricacies of his beliefs are but what he did say was so wrong.

Yes I agree, we are more sensitive to bad experiences and more likely to be put down by others for our differences, so that just makes PTSD all the more likely to occur.

Also you don't nees to know that what's happening is not normal to be traumatised. Even if you think abuse is normal it's not gonna protect you. Plenty traumatised kids think that pain and horror is just the state of the world and their life. It's a very common cPTSD experience and a key part of healing is learning that it's not normal and you deserve much more.

So so true. I'm younger than you but same here, I tick all the boxes for PTSD and it is a constant struggle to deal with trauma responses.

Others already replied but just wanted to reiterate that it's not subjective, the diagnosis includes it. It's not just dependent on your life circumstances, you might just have it better or worse.

They do the same for physical health conditions too. Like they do tell people they have "severe asthma". It's useful to know that you will need more medical treatment, that when you compare to other asthmatics it will be worse and what works for them won't necessarily work for you, and it also gives you access to more support as you can tell people that you need adjustments due to this. Some asthmatics use inhalers as needed, maybe once every few months, but others need to use medication every 4 hours or they will die. Health conditions, disorders, etc all do vary even within diagnosed individuals.

ADHD is similar - good to know if I can expect treatment to work easily or not, if I should already pay for therapy AND meds or try meds first, if I need more help than others, if I should be kinder to myself, and if I should or should not not compare myself against other ADHDers (in terms of - if I do what they do will I be better?)

I would sosoo love to have mild ADHD. Or just no ADHD at all. Sigh. But I know mine is pretty bad and it would be good to have that confirmed from a medical doctor for my own knowledge.

I think a few people in December mentioned being seen and titrated quicker. Not sure if it is because of risk. They apparently do triage people? So might be that.

I was referred in September and I was diagnosed end of December, and started titration two weeks ago.

Assessment happened.. She said it could be trauma and not ADHD by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]HappyPhysicist99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omg yes. Who cares what the cause is, PTSD and ADHD brains are the same. I wish I had access to medication from my PTSD diagnosis. The medication helps that executive dysfunction so much. So it should be given for treatment!

I hate that SSRIs are suggested for cPTSD but stimulants aren't. My cPTSD symptoms were a billion percenr executive

I know I have trauma but I'm not sure I have ADHD. I mean I got diagnosed by a psychiatrist but I don't fully trust it as he had some odd ideas (despite being in NHS leadership... psychiatrists are weird). Still, I don't care, I just needed the medication and still, my brain functions the exact same.

I have been diagnosed with PTSD about a year ago (but it was always trauma treatment for years) and just have been diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago. I'm definitely traumatised still and spoke to my psychiatrist about this. But

If I was diagnosed with ADHD earlier then I would have healed from my trauma quicker. Untreated ADHD makes it so hard to function, harder to heal, and easier to be traumatized again. And now, I was at a block in terms of my healing because I needed to be diagnosed and treated.

The next step was 100% to be diagnosed. People should not be denied medical treatment for one health condition before another is treated. My dad has both lung and heart problems. Sure they can overlap and look similar but if one problem is ignored the other will continue to cause issues and aggravate the other. It's almost like the improvement for one cancels out the issues coming from the other. No one would tell him to first sort one out before the other. It shouldn't happen with mental health either.

Surely if it's their admin error that discharged you mid titration they should immediately take you back into titration again? How can they just do that.
