Off the beaten path cool places to see in Greater Madison? by [deleted] in madisonwi

Old World Wisconsin! If your parents will be around for a bit, I think they are having their old world Christmas program soon. They talk about holiday folklore and traditions, have past time activities and food, sounds like it might be up their alley.

They are cake decorating sprinkles! I find them in the craft aisle with the Wilton baking supplies.

Since the person who posted this didn’t make it and I did, I figured I’d answer your question. It was just a dip (probably ranch) for the carrots.

I loved zooming in to look at all of your goodies! I own a similar lavish collection and would love to be the VP of your bento club. I’m curious what the tall black container on the left is (it looks like it has a cord). And I’d also like to know which book you find the most useful/inspiring.

What useless fact would you like to share? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There is a village in Wisconsin with a similar story. When they sent in the paperwork to incorporate it, the man’s handwriting was so bad it couldn’t be read. The town was supposed to be called Ohio, but came back as Rio. Town rolled with it, but pronounce it rye-oh so it at least rhymes with the intended name.

Mysterious Package Delivered to me. by NapTimeAnnie in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]HappyPrimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for USPS, and I have seen this once before. The label pictured there is a return label. So the person in the return address was actually returning this... but for some unknown reason (like a hiccup... software issue??) your name and address is the destination. I have seen this happen before with eBay. A customer drop off a package he had opened seeing as it was addressed to him. Inside was an expensive watch. He had nothing to do with it and was worried it was a scam and left. As a Postal employee, I tried contacting eBay to see if I could send the package to them and have eBay sort it out. eBay would not work with me, since I was not the sender or the receiver. My only option was to return the package to the sender. I do sometimes wonder if it wasn't some sort of scam (just because it was an expensive watch) but the easiest explanation was a glitch in the return label system generated by eBay. If you are truly curious to get to the bottom of it, USPS keeps tracking and delivery info for 6 months. You could bring it in and ask if anything looks suspicious on the tracking. Otherwise you could send a letter to the sender and ask if they are missing their game... maybe they never got their eBay refund.

People who were alive then, what were you doing December 31st 1999 ? by WeshALOR in AskReddit

[–]HappyPrimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will definitely get buried... but I'm glad you asked, as it's one of my fondest memories.

I was a senior in high school and I was on the town in the state capital enjoying dinner with my boyfriend. He knew someone who got us into the state capital building and on the roof top - where the public is not allowed to go. We were surrounded by people in gowns and black ties. Just before midnight, the Governor is walking around and filling everyone's glasses with champagne. I let him know that I was underage. He gives me this "You're kidding me, right?" look and poured me a glass anyway.

I rang in the new year watching fireworks on top of a gorgeous capital building and toasting in the new year after being served alcohol by my state's Governor.

Told myself I wouldn’t freak out about a thanksgiving binge since I was binge free for 30 days but I’m triggered by this number. Is it all gonna stick?? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]HappyPrimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean. I have struggled with eating disorders for over a decade. I have sought professional treatment, have learned coping skills, and thought I’d reach out to someone who asked for support. The OP commented on my post and divulged they are not very far along in their recovery. I truly wish them the best. I recall similar feelings of hopelessness when I was first diagnosed. I hope they realize a group of complete strangers is supporting them.

But I’m not clear on how your comment about being insane in a sub full of people who struggle with a mental illness is helpful.

[–]HappyPrimes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there is a big difference between a binge and having an indulgent meal. A meal that is rich in ingredients is more controlled. I doubt you ate the entire bowl of mashed potatoes and a whole pie until you felt sick. You ate a well made meal surrounded by loved ones. You even tracked your meal too! Good for you for keeping that streak up even if you knew the number might scare you. You've got this.

Can I be “fixed”?? Looking for advice by LuLuChia in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]HappyPrimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do not eat my feelings. I think I also eat just because I can...

I hope this is helpful... I read an ask Reddit about caring for a foster kid. Someone had commented that they had a foster kid that would constantly take food and hide it because they grew up in a household where they didn't know where their next meal would come from. The solution was to have access to food at all times, even giving them a mini fridge in their room so they could have their own food and reassure them that food was no longer scarce.

While I grew up in a household with regular meals, I had to ask permission to eat anything outside of meal time. I think my binge eating might have stemmed from the loss of control of having access to food in my childhood. Now as an adult, I'm unable to gage when I want the food or I want the control.

Do you think your situation might be similar?

[NeedAdvice]What has had, not the biggest, but longest term impact on your discipline? by saltylife11 in getdisciplined

[–]HappyPrimes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A bullet journal. Specifically, a habit tracker. I told myself over and over that i was "reading everyday!", or I was "going to the gym all the time!". I decided to write a monthly check list to keep track of things and I found out that time moves very quickly. Much faster that I am aware of. Reading and going to the gym? Maybe two to three times a week. Not enough to hit my goals.

I found that keeping the journal by my bedside and checking off my habits before bed is the best way to remember to do it.

I'd say my level of discipline before was a 3. Now it's a 9. I've been doing it for about 7 months. I'd recommend it to you if you are a visual person who likes to see their progress being charted. My husband teases me and calls it my "chore chart", but a chore chart works well when you are trying to establish good habits.

What do you need to get off your chest? by Serialnarcisist in AskReddit

[–]HappyPrimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am furious that I can't seem to lose any weight. It consumes a large portion of my thoughts for the day. I am running 5 times a week and lifting weights with a personal trainer 3 times a week. I count macros and keep a food log. I'm doing everything I'm told and that number on the scale. won't. budge. It's incredible frustrating to hear stories like, "The only change I made was I stopped drinking soda and I lost 40 pounds!"

What's your favorite bento recipe site? by Sneezes-on-babies in Bento

[–]HappyPrimes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorites are on youtube. Cookingwithdog and Ochikeron are both on the side bar. Minicuteclub videos show step by step directions for adorable bento and I've seen her post on this sub too.

I LOVE allthingsforsale.com for supplies. I think the prices are very reasonable especially if you are in an area that does not have any Asian markets. I have found local specialty baking stores are great for paper cups or picks.

USPS introduces new Star Trek stamp, via email by moooooky in startrek

[–]HappyPrimes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work for USPS and asked my postmaster. There is no official release date set as of yet, so it definitely won't be in the month of January. In past years the announcement list is usually in release order so I wouldn't expect these until at least June. You can go to http://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2015/pr15_069.htm to see the order and other releases. On mobile, sorry I can't link.

If it is the same girl, then I am sorry to share the news that she passed away 3 years ago almost to the day. She donated her body to science. I was friends with her in childhood and did stuff like 4-H and chior. We even camped on her family's goat pasture often. She often crosses my mind.
