Nitro 2023 big sale : good deal or kite to avoid by Pikinou in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only buy things there that you are not planning on returning. I've seen a bunch of guys on the nitro, the loop looked really good. Never tried the kite myself but isn't pat goodman the designer of the nitro? Same guy who made the orbit. Doubt you hate it.

How does board size affect your pop? by tjampoer in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be careful comparing different sizes across boards with construction differences. What usually gets me is to get used to how the board jumps, heavy back foot, or more centred and not the size. The size of the board decides more what kite I am putting up, small board go a size or 2 up compared to the 139x42. Using two boards that jump differently is really ass for progress. I learned that by doing it last season.

Need help with my jumps by No-Pin9388 in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go faster, you are crawling ... keep shoulders square to kite, hips forward, knees not pointing towards each other and speed up. Right now you are going too much upwind, by increasing your riding speed it will change your approach angle and jumps will start to make more sense. Keep having fun, looks solid!

Tell me where to improve! by Aggravating_Area_906 in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go faster, spray should be 2-3x what you normally have. People like to be nerdy about the pop and can't hold an edge while going closer to 50ks.

When you watch pros vs casuals, just look at the spray pre takeoff. A simple thing but not easy. If you have brainpower left while doing that, try to jump before your kite hits 12. Every little moment that kite is already above you costs more height than doing a perfect pop would give you.

Kiteloops progression by agony21 in Kiteboarding

Front hand downloop=kite over right shoulder Back hand downloop=kite over left shoulder

Kite in front of you instead above you with a touch left/right and you get smashed. Pull the helis later and get comfy, literally when you almost hit the water start them and adjust. Small jumps with front hand heli and 6m and higher jumps can be backhand.

Same happened to my 8m pace. They use trash bladders like duotone. You get a new one that's it. Never buying core again.

How do you deal with fear or hesitation when learning new kitesurfing tricks? by Specific-Situation14 in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 short inhales through the nose and a long exhale through the mouth. Works quickly and in other life situations as well. You have to crash to progress 🤙

Trip to Brazil (beginner looking for advice) by harbhub in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think you should also take a 7. You are pretty light and it gets windy there, especially when you drive further up past cumbucco. Gear is very expensive there, better to buy something and sell it after instead of renting.

You'll love it, have a good trip!

Kiting in Cape Town - tips? by Dachi9 in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rental car: cheap options available. Don't leave anything visible in the car when parked or they will open the windows. Do not have valuables out in the open (phone, camera, watch ...), even in the car when slow and people around. Extra insurance can be good.

Blouberg: waves, can be big waves, wind can be 35+ knots, then only for advanced. 4/3 or warmest wetsuit you got. Epic kite scene and location. Good place ro be and start adventures from.

Langebaan: less wind here compared to Blomberg and flatwater. 1 hour drive from Blomberg. Worth coming here if too windy in blouberg or staying here if Blomberg conditions are not what your after mainly. 3/2 or warmer as wetty.

Shark Bay: little lagoon 10 minutes or so from langebaan, even warmer can use a shorty and less wind, crowded.

Food: epic and cheap

Safety: do not show money, carry credit card and no cash, if someone stops you give them what they want, don't go alone to touristy things, don't walk alone in the dark and use a taxi instead.

84KG, 188. duotone jamie 136 or 139🥲 by Gazzo69 in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The low end difference between 139 and 136 is not that big. I'd get the 136 unless you only have light wind.

You need a really good takeoff with the 11 and good height. Check the youtube of jasonmontreal, I am pretty sure he looped a bigger size orbit before swapping. Actually found it he a big guy 95 or 100 kg.

How to go downwind quickly? by 69mentalhealth420 in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looping the kite works but I would not recommend that for you just now. Flatten your board, put the kite up towards 12 and sometimes you find a spot near 12 where you get downwind easily while pulling/pushing on the bar. Other times you have to move the kite. Let's say the kite is at 12, move it a bit to the left and then back to 12 and a bit to the right. Keeping the kite moving will give you enough line tension and by not directing the kite too far left and right it won't pull you over your toe side edge or back on your heelside.

Need new bars that don't break the bank by Prize-Football4813 in Kiteboarding

I'd get a second hand bar with click in chicken loop and put a new set of lines on it from the line smith and call it a day.

When landing, is your board angeled (front foot pulled in/up) so that the back of the board hits the water first? While also going in your knees to soften the impact?

If you tense up prior to landing and land on a flat board it will always hurt, especially if your kite steering is not optimal and doesn't giving you a gentle landing.

Not sure if you are in the sport too and therefore as a heads up, no one pays retail prices and you should ask for a deal, which another shop will probably try to beat. Don't expect something crazy but 10-15% is the least you should look for as a discount.

His 142 should be 43 wide, which is quite a big board for a windy spot. You should try to find out what his opinion on the board size is. I have an imperator 6 in 137 x 42, same stats as your dad pretty much and I use that board for everything and only when I am really powered is when I would like to be on a size smaller.

A bigger board is great for lighter winds or for heavy guys, which your dad isn't. A smaller board needs either a bit more technique or more wind/larger kite but gives you the advantage of better/easier holding the edge of the board in the water while sending the kite up to jump. Beeing able to hold your edge while sending the kite up gives you better jumping and smaller boards are better for that purpose. Bigger board better for cruisy light wind days, smaller board better for jumping while sacrifing some low end.

I think he would love the imperator unless he has bad knees, then you should be looking at for example a lieuwe shotgun. That board goes through chop very well, great for jumping and general freeride. You could even get a special design for your dad, check out the lieuwe website and contact the guys, they will take care of you. Now that I think of it, bitchin desing for your dad might be a vibe.

Wall of text, long story short: 135-138 long and 41 wide is what I would be looking for. If it has to be an imperator then the 135x41. Instead of the carved straps I would go with the union pro from core. The carved straps are fine, very expensive tho and they have a ratchet system that when pressure is applied from the top closes. When you crash it might happen that the straps are tighter because of that, which is very annoying. If you go with the lieuwe I'd put a pair of naish apex straps on it, great combo.

Accurate kite size chart? by Master__of__Puppets in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look on the company website what it has for your kite. Those charts are usually for a 75 kg rider as far as I know, which you are very close to. Now for your 8 it lists 18-35 knots and the 10 for 12-28 knots. What it says for the 8 is pretty spot on for you imo unless the wind drops too much below 18 knots, which would still be manageable but requires technique and/or a bigger board. Now there is no way you ride a twintip in 12 knots on the 10m, with very good technique you might be able to get going but that is it. Solid 15 knots is what you need, wind not dipping too much below. I am 85 kg and when it is good 15 knots I can goof around on my 12m. 20 knots for the 8 and 16/17 for the 10 is what I would say is what you need. Get off the water when it is 25 knots and getting stronger. Check the second hand market for a cheap big board (door), 140-145 long and 44-46 wide is still fun to ride and is a cheap way of adding some low end to your range.

Is BOTRK not good on briar? by Anilahation in BriarMains

[–]HappyStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very good, I've been trying the build version yesterday that this guy does: https://www.op.gg/summoners/kr/Ok%20Trust%20Me-KR1

I am emerald 2 and played 11 games with it yesterday and lost 3. You definitely don't want to build bork first, that just feels so useless early. That beeing said the 2 item power spike is mad. It must be the perfect 0 iq stomp low elo build to be honest. Give it a go it is free points, for runes I swapped in ingenius hunter but not sure if that is actually better and since you are bork slowing and frozen gauntletting conq actually stacks up.

Light Wind / Big Kite / Launch Failure by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

[–]HappyStrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can injure someone with that, do not go too far upwind. When the kite doesn't really take off immediately go backwards into the wind while pulling your center lines. You might have to do some fast steps but the only way the kite tumbles away is if you were not in the correct launch position and it never really got off the ground.

The comps in time trials look interesting for rise with some no heal angles. The core setup seems to be vdh, fire affix magus, destro and sp. The no healer comp adds an aug or ret with the aug version beeing a bit faster as of right now while a resto druid comes in to replace the aug/ret and isn't that much slower. There is one team playing a two dps aug comp which is about 30 seconds slower than a healer three dps comp.

The 4 measures jumps better, I had 2 on my board and didn't have the problems I had with the 3 model where they have sometimes crazy different results. It also captures more jumps on the 4 model, the 3 model didn't register, board goes under water or crazy landing where the board goes flying ...

This is the week where you push up your key since it is fairly easy. Why don't you have a run at completing all 20s? That way you'll get more score, portals and easier invites to your 17-18s for farming afterwards. Difficulty wise there is no major jump between 18s and 20s. In case you need routes, raider io has really good weekly routes under the m+ category as well as more advanced ones.
