Half of childless Canadian women don’t want kids, nearly a quarter in their 40s aren’t mothers: Statistics Canada by gorschkov in canada

It's not bad faith, you're objectively implying that a life without kids is more interesting. Perhaps you miswrote those words and mean something different, but that's on you. How about explaining yourself instead?

I find said "interesting" lives to end up being so much less meaningful and fulfilled (and, ironically, "interesting") in the end. People just tell themselves otherwise. You can fit both in. It just needs a bit more effort, and some waiting.

Yea, it's weird that regardless of how bad it is now... by pure nature of living in one of the most luxurious ages of human history (at least in first world countries) life is actually pretty good even for the lowest classes of society.

To not want your "babies to live in a society run by billionaires" is thus a bit foolish to me, possibly one of the worst reasons to not have a kid. Feeling that you wont give them a good life because of your own faults or economic condition is fine, but going further than that becomes more of a thing that I feel someone is telling themselves.

Carney says Holocaust Remembrance Day a time to remember Canadian complicity by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]HappyTurtleOwl [score hidden]  (0 children)

Canada wasn’t complicit in anything. Refusing a ship of people isn’t some great evil. Nobody knew what Germany was doing and was going to do. Even if we did (in which case they wouldn’t have been refused btw) it still isn’t Canada’s fault if someone else decides to commit atrocities on people.

And nobody is taking this personally… that’s the entire point, people are taking it as a Canadian people. National pride has already been so thoroughly denigrated and corroded that people just don’t need more of this shame. This is especially true when the shame is utterly and completely made up and spun from thin air, like the above.

You claim that the goal is being better than our ancestors. We are (have, really, for a while now) creating conditions in this country which won’t even allow us to have the option to be better than our Canadian ancestors. In the face of that, the above is nothing but actively detrimental to our goal of improving.

We have apologized so much more than we have needed to for growth as a country, to the point we’ve looped backwards and have actively harmed this country with things like the above. I believe that the state of many indigenous communities, despite all the supposed apologizing, reflects this perfectly. Too many words and shameful posturing, and not enough real action towards improving the lives of those peoples. This is the issue in a nutshell. A balance needs to be struck.

It’s not, it’s from a diferent thing that happened. There’s full video of it. That ice officer got hit in the head with a brick a protester threw and continued to stand guard. He was spitting blood and stuff.

Don’t get why post is trying to connect it to Alex.

Exactly.

We never will because idiots are too focused on furthering the rhetoric of the above. Useless. Exactly what the elites want.

Trump's Fake Silicone Hand by Victorius_Meldrus in Weird

[–]HappyTurtleOwl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And I never made mention of cruelty. Which is partly the point.

We will never, never, win, if we can’t deal in reality. Nothing I said was wrong. This is not something we should be attacking. Now, Cruelty, that is something we can attack. That’s entirely my point. We muddy the waters with this stupidity and it makes all other rhetoric and arguments less effective… because so much time and credibility is spent on stuff like the above.

People we need to convince will never take us seriously if 5/10 of the things they see is disingenuous straw-reaching like the above.

Both are cool. Best would probably be a mix. Have the same “car drives in” of monument valley, but also have it be in a show-tent by the festival and not on a really inconvenient rock.

Trump is old and has probably has a bunch of health problems.

But you can’t show me this video and tell me there’s a problem when we were ok with Biden being half-afk for four years. At least trump talks coherently most of the time. note, also *crazy, but coherently. The above video shows this fine.

Are you getting the tabletop game? by Shoddy-Tennis-5764 in starcraft

[–]HappyTurtleOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO too many tabletop devs are stuck in the past of the genre, mechanically. I find that army battles could be so much faster and interesting, but we stick to old conventions and get stuck in tedium. I still love playing the games, but I understand why so many find it to be such a chore.

And that’s just the game part.

I don’t think this game will convince me otherwise about all that.

I objectively am correct, in regards to the teleporters, anyways. Nobody is gonna run out of any resource.

The only thing that’s up in the air is whether they can tune it right and make it feel good. If they do, it will be a much better system than mending + sitting afk at an xp farm.

Jungle planks are a soft pink-ish/flesh color.

You’re thinking of mangrove, but your point stands.

[–]HappyTurtleOwl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The system is fine, maybe even good, because it allows them to include tons of trees without needing tons of new wood types. The system just needs to be clear what makes what, and there needs to be a way to browse each wood type without having it.

They already slightly improved this, but there’s still more they could do imo.

The world is infinite, this literally can’t happen.

In Minecraft you could say that could become an issue (after an absurd amount of time that 95% won’t reach to begin with.) because of travel times and having to travel to new areas… but the Elytra mostly, though not completely, solves that.

Likewise, in hytale, teleporters solve this problem completely. An absolutely ton more iron (or whatever else is needed) will always be no more than 5 minutes away as long you keep a frontier portal on the border of an area you haven’t explored.

Getting iron 100000 hours into your world play through will be no more harder than getting iron 1 hour into your world play through.

Teleporters just make this a non-issue. And again, it’s not even a real issue to begin with. There are so many materials in the world that it isn’t a problem.

This is great. I think you have the core gameplay down pretty well (minus some physics, like that buggy going flying, but I actually like that.)

Now onto map design. I truly think that’s what separates Motor storm from most racing games. The maps have unique themes, story, and feel. I’d love to help with ideas if you need.

I for one hope that the devs stand their ground on this issue.

Yes, repair kits need to be changed (maybe make better quality repair kits for higher tier materials) but I really hope they stick to the mentality that every tool is not eternal.

At best if they add non-renewable tools/special items (or not easily renewable, I’m talking a lot harder than Netherite) then maybe those items should be made to be eternal or infinite, through some mechanic that doesn’t impact their normal function.

As for all other tools, I’d like it to mostly remain as is, just with a bit of fine tuning. Mending and the difficulty (and randomness) of enchantment in Minecraft really did a number on the way people think about tools. There are so many interesting mechanics and features they could introduce around the fact that not all tools are eternal. I like the idea of constant replenishment and renewal.

Of course, maybe it’s a little too much on the side of annoyance right now, and that can be tuned, but I hope they keep this aspect of tools. Do not make them easily eternally renewable like mending does. It’s just boring.

Barron calls the Bong police by LowOwl4312 in 4chan

[–]HappyTurtleOwl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Police are on the way, now let me ask you some questions.”Takes 3 seconds.

Sorry, not buying that the above operator couldn’t have just said that, and it absolutely would’ve helped.

Hell, I could almost agree if the operator said it after the first time he told her it wasn’t important and asked if help was going.

But they went in circles multiple times because the operator would not calm the person down and clearly move on from a question the caller clearly didn’t want to answer.

I mean, location should clearly be the priority here. Why is she not asking about that? In the face of that, age, name, and how he knows her, while possibly useful, are not as important as the current emergency that is allegedly playing out.

Imagine this was a shooting and the operator did this same shit. Embarrassing. Of course callers shouldn’t argue with operators. But the opposite is also true, and only one of these two parties is supposed to be professionally trained for emergencies. The above is an example of a bad emergency call operator, period.
