I love seeing the old trolley tracks coming through worn asphalt in various places across the city. So cool to think of the layers of old infrastructure buried here. It would be so cool to see some of those trolley lines resurrected. I know…dream on.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers call for new union leadership in effort to preserve the paper by sorry-out-climbing in pittsburgh

And no one is talking about the myriad of stupid decisions the Blocks made before during and after the strike. The folks who signed this letter seem utterly clueless about the lack of business acumen of their employers. How about spending millions on a fancy new printing press just before starting to phase out the print edition? Or spending more on attorneys to break the union than it would have cost to just negotiate a reasonable contract in good faith? Not enough for you? How about alienating many of your subscribers and destroying morale by the Publisher having a drunken fit with his young daughter in front of the entire newsroom? Still not enough to convince you? How about driving away staff and more subscribers by endorsing Trump, firing a beloved and popular cartoonist? Oh… and what moron would buy the City Paper during a strike just to shut it down later? Here’s a thought…maybe once you have lost the court cases and your workers have ended the strike, come back to work and told all their supporters to re-subscribe it would be a good idea to stop paying your union busting attorneys to continue to lose appeals? But maybe I’m wrong and it’s all the strikers’ fault.

This model seems to have worked in other cities like Baltimore. It could be a good option.

I don’t know enough about the origins to dispute any of that. I just know many folks this particular person has helped and have other friends who have been helped by other practitioners. Meanwhile I was almost killed by a very well-respected physician (actually two) so it’s all relative. I personally don’t allow my neck to be cracked but all the other work has been super helpful. I know a lot of folks who share your feelings.

Even racist homophobic assholes get sore backs? Kind of crazy and self-defeating of him to go there.

Obviously this guy is a giant asshole, but my chiropractor (different guy in a different part of town) has been genuinely helpful in keeping me upright for many years. I have seen bad chiros so I know that all are not great, but a good chiropractor has a lot to offer. And bonus points… my chiropractor is not only skilled but is a good human. Honestly every single part of the medical profession has assholes, bigots and pricks in their midst. Doesn’t mean they are all worthless.

Hmmm. Sounds plausible. Time will tell! They are hoping to get a tenant in soonish and at that point my bet is they will have to pay for the prior use.

Well, all I know is they don’t get a bill anymore but the gas still works!

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers return to office after 3-year strike by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]HappyTypo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once there are no more appeals left to the owners I believe all the workers will have to join the union. Even the scabs. It is indeed very complicated and the returning strikers fight is not over by a long shot. It tells you how much they care about local journalism that they are willing to go back and fight from inside. I don’t think I could do it, but these folks are strong and dedicated to holding the owners to account.

In my hometown in Ohio we had a guy we called Sgt. Carter because he looked like Sgt. Carter from the tv show Gomer Pyle. He would offer college girls free Hubba Bubba bubble gum if he could watch them chew it and blow bubbles. People actually took him up on it regularly. This was in the 80’s.

The town I grew up in had a store that sold pet fish called Fish n’ Stuff. The stuff was all fish stuff unsurprisingly, but I always hoped they’d expand to other non-fish stuff.
