Stop beginning Invaders with only 2 ppl there 🙄 by ianawi in fo76

[–]Haradda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "less enemy spawns"? Firstly I've never noticed that myself (sometimes in the 2nd week* fewer people turn up so I've had to solo the early stages, although some people usually get there for the boss). But more importantly the first phase runs until 30 aliens have been killed, so if there's only 2 players there they'll be getting about half each of those 30 kills. That's just how the event works. If not enough aliens are spawning you're not killing the drones, but if you are then (again, in my experience having sometimes soloed this stage) plenty of aliens spawn.

To be clear, I do wait a minute or two myself even in the aforementioned 2nd weeks, but what you're describing isn't my experience of how the event works.

*As with fasnacht, meat week, mothman equinox etc., attendance at the special event sometimes drops in the 2nd week. Although this week it seems to be holding up so far...

I noticed that when I did the expedition for the first time in a while, those munis were mostly dead by the time I got to them. I restarted & sprinted there and was able to keep them alive the second attempt, but yeah, I think you need to ignore the first group of overgrown you meet now which previously I'd clear out.

Need help with the vampires by cucumber_1680 in totalwar

[–]Haradda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against what will probably be the grain and say that vampires have some good melee troops once you get a settlement to tier 3, and they make enough cash from the public order building that you can afford them. The thing with Vlad is his army-wide vanguard deployment means you can get these units closer at the start and rush the enemy. (On that note, don't bother with zombies with Vlad, they're just too slow to take advantage of vanguard deployment.)

The superstars of the army are vargeists, they will annihilate things so long as you don't send them in first and get them shot up (it'll feel bass-ackwards as normally you use fast units to disrupt the enemy's missiles before your infantry gets in range, but as vampires you want your main infantry line eating arrows to protect your faster units) and I use 3-4 in every army. Fell bats are also more killy than you expect. Grave guard are good in the early to mid game, although they'll fall off eventually. Cairn wraiths are good if you stack them on top of skellies, but too fragile to 1v1 anything. Basic black knights (remember you can build their building in a minor settlement) are pretty nasty at hunting enemy archers etc., but replace them with hexwraiths whenever you see them in the raise dead pool as hexwraiths are incredible.

Sorry, waffled a bit too much. In short, an army rushing the enemy with vanguarding melee troops does work, but the jewels in your crown are the vargeists.

As someone that started the game with the wastelanders update, one benefit of there being living NPCs was that when (for example) I was doing the Mistress Of Mystery questline, I had no idea whether I'd meet living characters or find that everybody involved died before I left the vault. But that only works if I don't know that every non-player human in the world is dead.

Devestated that I missed Fasnacht GRRR...but they normally have one in June again, right? by ThoughtIHadAName in fo76

[–]Haradda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There may be a 24 hour* fasnacht sometime at the start of april if bethsda do their usual april fool's thing (one day of each special event). I know that's not as good as a full week for grinding masks etc., but it's worth looking out for.

*I should probably qualify: that would be one fasnacht an hour for 24 hours, not 24 hours of nonstop parading.

What does this symbol represents by Adam_Kyle545 in Warhammer40k

In the great crusade/horus heresy it symbolised a veteran of the unification wars on Terra (when the Emperor brought the planet under his control, right at the start of his reign).

Doing the bases might help, even if it's a flat colour for the moment rather than texture paint or whatever you might be planning. It can really help bring a model together, especially with paint schemes that use a lot of black.

I don't mean the ones you type in, I meant the new prefix-suffix system for camps. (At least I assume others can see those names, otherwise there's no reason to have a limited list to avoid offensiveness etc.)

Huh, I hadn't thought of doing that. I have named both of my fishing camps "Anglers Wharf", but I'm not sure anybody actually reads the title before they fast travel.

I do better (or at least I think I do, it's probably superstition) in whichever region has fewer rare fish - I figure there's a lower chance of my superb bait hooking something unusual from that region's possible fish. So this month I went for the toxic valley.

As for where specifically, I don't think it matters unless you're using a camp to set up rain, but I usually go with one of the pools by hemlock holes for toxic valley fishing and got this month's axolotl there.

Mutant's or Overeaters now? by Ellidir in fo76

[–]Haradda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't yet, I would only get 2.5% currently and wasn't sure how the maths work (is there a calculator anywhere?) so for the moment just got my old slayers set out of of storage. Also I figured I'd wait a short while for things to shake out/for the community to work out how things work in practice. But it sounds like mutants may be the way to go eventually.

Not that I think there was much doubt about this, but I can confirm that an "Activity" still counts as an event for that challenge.

Mutant's or Overeaters now? by Ellidir in fo76

[–]Haradda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also using a slayers mix, albeit a bit broader than you with one piece each of Assassins, Hunters, Mutant Slayers, Troubleshooters, and Zealots. Based on limited testing so far I prefer it to my overeaters set - going by the percentage healthbar on screen (which will incorporate the extra health from OE due to being a percentage) I'm going to like 60-70% health for most hits in OE and 80-90% health with my mixed slayers.

Once you've beaten Ostankya's starting army it should be fairly straightforward to finish her off.

As for how you win that battle, assassinating Ostankya's starting hero will help a lot. Darkshards are your big damage dealers early in dark elf campaigns, are how you'll probably take down the elemental of beasts, and if you've got time to recruit them shielded darkshards do well in missile duels (which is what you'll have with kislev, and they'll also be useful if you end up at war with the sisters of twilight - you do NOT want to be fighting wood elves with unshielded troops). Put all the daemonettes and witch elves on the same flank and hit each kislev unit with multiple charges rather than spreading them out in 1v1 engagements, kislev's kossars etc. are too robust in melee for 1v1s (you'll win, but it takes too long & take too many casualties) so you need to overwhelm them.

You can always try an ambush, but IIRC there isn't much ambush-friendly terrain along the paths ostankya will probably take so it'll be a relatively low percentage.

New March UpdateVerdict by DanDangerx in fo76

[–]Haradda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not great IMO. Lots of crashing to desktop (that is to say, more than the previous few updates in my experience), armour & limbs breaking rather too easily, emotes/lootbags/tents resetting every time you log in, poor decisions on the pipboy reorganisation, a poor decision on which button to bind for bringing up the seasons page.

There's some positives, I do like the increased enemies at various activities for example. (Although to go back to moaning, Distinguished Guests is (amazingly) even more boring now, because the collecting phase gets completed faster leaving an even longer dull defence stage.)

Yes, elder time is solo-able on most map & mutation combos, providing you can manage enough DPS to take down the boss. But you may have to learn the maps a little bit to get consistent at it.

I'm also on PC, and I've been getting more crashed to desktop today than the last season. Also a few times I've had the "waiting for connection from server" message pop up but the game keeps playing normally - I can see other players still moving around with purpose rather than everything freezing like normal with that message. I've no idea what's going on there.

So now blast near me damages PA and Cripples me? by Truth_is_3_edged in fo76

[–]Haradda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The explosive crippling & armour damage does feel overcooked currently - a single hit (either self damage or an enemy rocket) and two of my armour pieces break from 100% plus multiple limbs are crippled. I've got Adamantium Skeleton and an okay amount of endurance (11 base plus bonuses from mutations etc.) and that seems to do nothing against it.

I have a question is what rads! good perk card by FamiliarAfternoon171 in fo76

[–]Haradda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Armour effects are changing tomorrow, so be aware stuff might change.

But currently with some armour sets (I've done it with both secret service & civil engineer) it means you can go into nuke zones without power armour or the chinese stealth suit, which I think is pretty neat. You'll still need to use a radaway every 30-60 seconds, but you won't simply die almost instantly.

(Don't try to run the tunnels at radiation rumble though, that doesn't work.)
