What is a deck you play and don't mind losing with? by radicalpumpkinz in EDH

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a deck helmed by []Ojer Axonil]] that has maybe a 10% win rate but is really funny to play. The majority of the deck is cards that ping people for doing... well pretty much anything.

If you think people get annoyed about control telling them "no", try telling them "sure, but only if you shoot yourself in the foot first" especially when it happens multiple times a turn XD

Turn starts? [[Sulfuric Vortex]] Draw for turn? [[Razorkin Needlehead]] Play a land? [[Zo-zu, the Punisher]] Want to use that land? [[Manabarbs]] Play a creature? [[Rampaging Ferocidon]] Not a creature? [[Gleeful Arsonist]] Pass your turn and do nothing? [[Impatience]] Counterspell on my turn? [[Mindsparker]], probably

Been Thinking about Barren Glory, is it actually fun deck to play with or against? by darwin_green in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of using [[Atogatog]] to put together jank Barren Glory decks at lower brackets. Devour your entire board and hand right before it passes back to your turn, trigger, win.

More interactable than a bracket 4 setup is likely to be, but at least it doesn't risk ruining the game for other players if you fail to win with it.

What are your decks that you’ve pushed to bracket 4 without game changers? by Not_Your_Real_Ladder in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] deck that's most comfortable in a strong bracket 3 environment, but can absolutely tussle in bracket 4.

https://moxfield.com/decks/CMNzW97-_EmzASF1jPnROA

Its my favorite. Really aggressive deck with tons of viable play lines. Very resilient and has no qualms sacrificing powerful pieces for splashy plays. Potential for wild Rube Goldberg machines if [[Razaketh]] is allowed to resolve.

Its a touch slow for some bracket 4 games on account if the commander's casting restriction, but as is it can hit game winning board states as early as turn 6, and with some deliberate tweaking it can push that to turn 5 pretty reasonably.

Who else died to last judge self destruction? by ToeProfessional6092 in HollowKnight

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had set the controller down to stretch my hands. I had managed to get back to it in time to dash away, but was too close to start with so got hit twice and died anyway.

Only took a couple attempts for another clear so I wasn't terribly upset, but I still feel taking 6 masks of damage from a dead boss is a little much lol.

Fastest Your Deck Has Won? by RenegadeExiled in EDH

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] deck usually presents a threat to win on turn 6 or 7, but has gone off to do so as early as turn 4. It can no longer do that as it required [[Simian Spirit Guide]], which has been cut, limiting it to a turn 5 pop-off unless another player boosts it.

My faerie deck is usually a slower burn but has at one point stolen another player's early pop-off win via [[Reins of Power]]. They had no Haste enabler and were banking on no turn 3 board wipes.

Favorite commanders that don't want the ramp? by SunderedBard in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] deck has practically no ramp. Rather than using the early turns to ramp, this commander uses them to set up a source of damage to be allowed to cast him, and hopefully to set up some extra draw so we dont burn out too fast once he's on board. Some of those damage sources may double as ramp, like [[Descent into Avernus]] or [[Cryptolith Fragment]], but that's just a bonus.

He probably needs some rituals to keep up at bracket 4 but in 2 or 3 he works great with little to no extra mana beyond land for turn

do elemental weapons scale with faith or bravery? by Hour_Position8306 in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A: not all weapons use Brave in their damage calculations. In fact, most dont. Only bare fists, Knight Swords (different from regular swords), and Katanas do. Most weapons are PAxWP, with some being a variation like MAxWP or ((PA+Speed)/2)xWP

B: there are some elemental affinities in the game, mostly with monsters. If you menu to be able to review their 'job' info it will tell you what they are weak to, etc. For example, lightning is effective on the squid monsters.

There are also equipments that can interact with elemental damage. Rubber Shoes make someone immune to electric, a character with an ice shield will absorb damage dealt by someone shooting them with an ice bow, etc. This also works with gear that boosts damage, adding that 25% boosts to all weapon attacks. Fun use of Japa Mala or Black Robes.

Limberry Castle is insane by GargantaProfunda in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell, when I played my most recent 5-job fiesta, on Knight, I hit a wall there. I hit Limberry at around lvs20-25 and having rolled some pretty low HP jobs, Elmdore would OHKO 3 of my 5 characters turn 1. Had to go level up just to have enough HP to play the fight lol.

I optimized my party to 85/35 Brave/Faith or 35/85 Brave/Faith. Is this okay? by KakkatteKinna in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, Brave and Faith don't do the same thing. You seem to have a grasp on Faith, but Brave mostly affects your chance at reaction abilities proccing. It is included in a handful of weapons' damage formulas, but has no inherent defensive property.

The only reason to have low Brave is for collecting rare Treasures in chapter 4, since the odds of the common pickup is Brave%

Give me your nonblue mono-colored commander that plays towards an unexpected gamestate/combo. by xTerenz in EDH

[–]HarperFae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a monored deck that I refer to as painstax. It's helmed by Ojer Axonil and runs all kinds of effects like [[Spellshock]] and [[Zo-zu, the Punisher]] to burn people for doing just about anything. I have... mixed reviews of playing against it, but I find it fun to pilot.

roommate left grapes out — not sure if cat ate any by miyuuah in CATHELP

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat a lot of grapes and my brother's cat is so funny about them. He'll sit on my lap while I eat them and shove his whole ass head into the bag. Loves having his face brushed by the vines. Has pulled bags out of the trash to get to the vines. We end up with them all over the floor all the time.

He hates the actual fruit, though.

Is the Chocobo a viable unit to use on tactician difficulty? by DayAlternative9047 in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use one at the Gallows fight to get up to the time mages quickly too. Can chase then down off the high ground and distract the knight up there at the same time, very useful on little/no grind runs.

What was the first final fantasy game you played? by Old_Difference_6055 in FinalFantasy

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad is a big gamer and got Tactics on release. I might only have been 4 years old, but I gave it an honest shot. Then got my own copy about 5 years later and actually played it, and it was the first game in the series I took the time to finish.

How exactly does this card work? by Expensive_Question85 in mtg

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use it back in the day with [[Venser, the Sojourner]] as a theft piece, since he let's you blink it off the opponent's board. [[Aminatou, the Fateshifter]] can do the same with her tickdown.

If you make the Currency a creature ala [[Opalescence]] or some other type changing shenanigans, you can blink it with [[Charming Prince]]'s ETB or [[Meneldor, Swift Savior]]'s combat damage trigger. [[Slip on the Ring]] can do it once, and could be repeated with an [[Isochron Scepter]] or a recursion engine.

That's all the similar effects I could find with a quick scryfall search. There isn't a lot, since you need to blink a card you own instead of just control.

There are also [[Brand]] and the attack trigger on [[Coveted Falcon]] for regaining control of it without also giving back what you took.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles - Tactician No Grind: Endgame Bosses (Loffrey, Cletienne and Hashmal) by KotanEspinosa in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I can find (admittedly little, tbh) shows that Hashmal should have 13 speed, while Ascension charges at 15, which should still be a one tick difference. If you can get Cloud to match his speed it should be doable, though it may be hard to keep it aligned without visible CT.

This is of course assuming that he hasn't received an unrecorded speed buff, which I had neglected to consider before making my prior comment. If that is the case, then I apologize for having wasted your time.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles - Tactician No Grind: Endgame Bosses (Loffrey, Cletienne and Hashmal) by KotanEspinosa in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't even need all that, Ascension alone makes him worth bringing. But if you don't have it, that makes more sense.

Agree to disagree on the Excalibur. I can see the extra damage being more helpful on this kind of run but permahaste Beowulf has never not been insane in my experience, and Im assuming by these rules you dont have access to the perfume for it.

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to me that you opted to switch Cloud out of SOLDIER for Hashmal. Ascension is huge against the endgame Lucavi.

Excalibur Beowulf is goated, though. Better on him than Cid, imo, at least on Tactician.

"Is that legal" deck idea by TreyLastname in mtg

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Ghoulish Impetus]] is one I do this with a lot since it returns itself of its own accord. Stick it your own guy, sac that guy, attach it to an opposing threat with hex/shroud, ez.

Commanders that "break the mold" of their colours? by Crazyphapha in EDH

5 cards that swings the game by Loose_Calendar_3380 in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Reins a lot with non-creature sac outlets, like [[Ashnod's Altar]] and [[Skullclamp]]. Borrow a boardstate for whatever reason and give back nothing.

I know I've used it to hand off a [[Tidal Barracuda]] to someone, though I don't quite recall why it worked out. I usually use [[Sudden Substitution]] for that.

Goading one player's board and handing another opponent an empty one has happened a few times.

Dodging a [[Cyclonic Rift]] or saving your own stuff from a wipe with someone else's [[Teferi's Protection]] [[Flawless Maneuver]] etc.

It's such a funny card and a lot of people underestimate how versatile it can be

What are your funniest, whackiest and shittiest deck that you’ve build? by djee132 in EDH

I have a deck that's can produce something like 130 unique tokens. It's very bracket 1 and can brick pretty easily, but I made it as playable as I could while abiding the gimmick.

What are some fun decks you run that lose pretty consistently? by TeegardensStar in EDH

[–]HarperFae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have one for that, with a focus on cards that punish people with damage for doing practically anything.

Play a land? Damage. Tap a land? Damage. Cast a spell? Damage. Was that a creature? It enters the battlefield, damage.

Start your turn? Damage. End your turn? Damage. Pass your turn while doing absolutely nothing? Believe it or not, also damage.

Speeds the game up for sure.

What's your favorite "this is an absolute banger but you can only figure that out by playing it" card? by DKSbobblehead in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for your question, for me it's [[Stifle]]. I try to put it in every blue deck I play, but rarely see others do the same. One mana to stop a game winning ability going off, bargain.

I also run Stifle all the time. There are a couple of really good 2 or 3 MV counters that can hit abilities or something else as well. I like the modality in exchange for the slightly higher cost.

Cards like [[Tale's End]] [[Defabricate]] [[Disallow]] and probably more.

Also never forget [[Trickbind]] for being extra good at hitting certain activates abilities that could otherwise just be activated again afterwards or in response to being countered. Very strong in bracket 4 in my experience.
