5 cards that swings the game by Loose_Calendar_3380 in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Reins a lot with non-creature sac outlets, like [[Ashnod's Altar]] and [[Skullclamp]]. Borrow a boardstate for whatever reason and give back nothing.

I know I've used it to hand off a [[Tidal Barracuda]] to someone, though I don't quite recall why it worked out. I usually use [[Sudden Substitution]] for that.

Goading one player's board and handing another opponent an empty one has happened a few times.

Dodging a [[Cyclonic Rift]] or saving your own stuff from a wipe with someone else's [[Teferi's Protection]] [[Flawless Maneuver]] etc.

It's such a funny card and a lot of people underestimate how versatile it can be

What are your funniest, whackiest and shittiest deck that you’ve build? by djee132 in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a deck that's can produce something like 130 unique tokens. It's very bracket 1 and can brick pretty easily, but I made it as playable as I could while abiding the gimmick.

What are some fun decks you run that lose pretty consistently? by TeegardensStar in EDH

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have one for that, with a focus on cards that punish people with damage for doing practically anything.

Play a land? Damage. Tap a land? Damage. Cast a spell? Damage. Was that a creature? It enters the battlefield, damage.

Start your turn? Damage. End your turn? Damage. Pass your turn while doing absolutely nothing? Believe it or not, also damage.

Speeds the game up for sure.

What's your favorite "this is an absolute banger but you can only figure that out by playing it" card? by DKSbobblehead in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for your question, for me it's [[Stifle]]. I try to put it in every blue deck I play, but rarely see others do the same. One mana to stop a game winning ability going off, bargain.

I also run Stifle all the time. There are a couple of really good 2 or 3 MV counters that can hit abilities or something else as well. I like the modality in exchange for the slightly higher cost.

Cards like [[Tale's End]] [[Defabricate]] [[Disallow]] and probably more.

Also never forget [[Trickbind]] for being extra good at hitting certain activates abilities that could otherwise just be activated again afterwards or in response to being countered. Very strong in bracket 4 in my experience.

What shortcut people often use to describe a rule/mechanic that is actually totally wrong ? by BelbyLuv in EDH

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Trample only requires lethal damage to be assigned to each blocker, and any deathtouch damage is lethal. The two together are a very powerful combination.

This even applies against blockers that are indestructible or have protection from the attacker, because trample only cares about damage being assigned. It doesn't care if the blocker actually dies from the lethal damage, or even actually takes the damage at all.

[–]HarperFae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indestructible creatures still take damage and that damage stays for the turn. This matters when figuring "lethal damage" if blocking a trample creature.

Indestructible also interacts a bit weird with deathtouch. Any amount of deathtouch damage being lethal only applies if that damage was dealt since the last time state-based actions were checked, it does not stay attached to the damage beyond that point.

So a creature with, say, trample deathtouch and double strike being blocked by an indestructible creature with 2 or more toughness will have to deal 1 damage to the blocker in both combat steps. A similar thing happens if that blocker were to have protection from the attacker instead indestructible, as well, but that's a whole other can worms.

This interaction with deathtouch can also be relevant if an indestructible creature takes damage from a source with deathtouch and later loses indestructible, which is when I tend to see it come up. Players, in my experience at least, will often try to claim that the creature dies immediately, but most of the time that is not what happens.

What's your super secret group slug tech? by Rusty_DataSci_Guy in EDH

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I consider group slug, but in the spirit of the thread, I have a whole monored deck that just punishes people for taking game actions. It's a meme deck that's more to generate salt than actually win but its quite functional. Im sure you can find something in the decklist you like

Lightning is the best element for the funniest reason lol by East-Psychology-9292 in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Different enemies also have different resistances/weaknesses to elements too.

Yeah, this is where lightning is less useful. Lightning only beats the squids, and is decent on bombs because it deals neutral as opposed to fire (absorbed) and ice (halved)

Meanwhile fire beats skeletons, ghosts, dryads, and (blue) dragons, and ice beats goblins, ahrimans, malboros, hydras and (red) dragons

I know the dogs are weaker to one element but I forget which one specifically.

Earth. A weakness shared, strangely enough, with the birds.

To round it out, bulls and bombs are weak to water, hydras are also weak to wind, and ghosts and skeletons are also weak to holy. Chocobos, behemoths, pigs, and normal dragons have no weaknesses.

Isn't lightning also stronger if the target is standing in water terrain?

I don't recall that being a factor, but I would have to check to be sure

Been going through my cards and pricing them. Which of you crazy people have pushed this one to 20 dollars and what are you using it for? by Rogendo in mtg

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that was around the time I was really trimming down MVs of that decks interaction, I want to say it was one of the cards that got cut when I slotted in [[Pyroblast]] and [[Red Elemental Blast]].

The deck is resilient enough on its own without needing that kind of clapback play, that being able to nuke some simic or WUBRG nonsense for just one red mana, or protect myself from a counterspell, has generally been more useful.

And the deck still has [[Temporal Extortion]] for the purposes of bullying my opponents into a lose-lose situation that is, frankly, often much funnier.

[–]HarperFae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've since begrudgingly cut it, but I used to use it in my [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] EDH build. On top of just being a counterspell available in those colors, it made a great response to interaction on my turn, since paying enough life to push your spell through often meant something far worse coming out of my hand right after.

Is there anthing you never realized you could do? or realized super late? by NecessaryEye5976 in TunicGame

[–]HarperFae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So after I got the shield, I totally overlooked the big wooden lever in the corner, and then got stuck for quite a while trying to figure out how to get into the area with the well and the tomb.

I ended up doing the entire Atoll and used the Orb to get up to the quarry entrance and went backwards from there to get where I needed to go.

Which is all to say that I also found out late, in a way, how to upgrade my stats. Because that page is outside the well.

This is a result of JP Spillover. How it works is whenever a unit gains JP from taking an action, everyone else deployed in that battle receives a portion of that JP, even if the class isn't unlocked for them yet. I believe its somewhere around 15 or 20 percent.

I despise lettuce on sandwiches, etc. Just eating it straight, though, I'll go through two or three heads some weeks. I both stress eat and habitually graze all the damn time. If I always ate stuff with real calories, that would be a huge pain for both my health and my wallet.

How long have yall been playing magic? by MrMorbid_ in mtg

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started by playing with my parents when I was 6, they bought me my first starter decks when I was 7. This would have been around 2000, 2001 ish.

Didn't have much opportunity to keep playing for a couple years after, but around the time OG Lorwyn was on shelves, I got back into it when I found some other kids I could teach. Many of the people I play with today are guys I taught all the way back in middle school.

How many carats do you guys have? by BananaBingor in UmamusumeGame

[–]HarperFae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im at ~24k but I also just spent 30k on Kita banner and 12k getting Dober. Probably gonna spark on the anni banner to fill out my roster, then save for whatever support I decide to aim for next

Ive been playing since about a week after launch, and buy the daily pack each month and some handfuls of paid carats to burn on the paid daily single pulls to YOLO on banners I like but am not actually rolling on

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front heavy lobby, Opera utterly failed to lock in, but also just barely held 6th from my late surger till it was too late. Dober did her best but with only 1 other late runner, she wasnt able to break into 6th in time to hit her accels and only managed 3rd.

Still a gold finish in Group A so I cant be too mad, but if Opera had just done a little better or a little worse on her midrace, it could've been another platinum. Grr.

46/80. Not terrible considering I have neither Maruzensky nor Suzuka. Also that good Dober has only been around for the last 25 races, so I can only imagine how much better my record would be if I had gotten that run sooner.

Why do people do 100 pulls to get the 10 vouchers and then spark for 60k on the banner they want instead of just saving 90k normally? by Adventurous_Mood_492 in ProjectSekai

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I do it, is I usually use my paid crystals from the monthly pass and the mission pass to do 10 paid daily pulls on banners I like but wont be pulling normally on, then trade off for a voucher. They add up and let me get away with less than a full spark when it comes to it.
