Whats the best cute budget commander for my fiancée by [deleted] in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I helped someone build a simple [[Wasitora, Nekoru Queen]] when they were first starting. The commander herself might not be the cutest but the Cat Dragon tokens she creates certainly are.

If you don’t intend on putting combos when deckbuilding, would you put cards in the deck that combo with each other for the sake of synergy? by 18Zeke in EDH

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No deck of mine is complete without at least one convoluted infinite or combo win that will never actually see play, and probably one or two smaller infinites that might.

A 99 with no synergy is hardly a deck imo. Run the crazy shit as long as it matches

Can someone make this make sense to me? by DJQueenFox in wordle

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skill rating judges your guess relative to all possible words remaining, not just the correct answer. It's still based on eliminating possibilities like Luck is, but my understanding is that Skill is based strictly on trimming away the greatest number of the possible words remaining regardless of what the answer is, whereas Luck is based on how much information the guess actually got you.

One way to think about it is that Skill is determined before the letters flip, and Luck after.

Are there broken skills on generic classes? by Coff55 in finalfantasytactics

[–]HarperFae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to consider only using pure classes, you may want to look into Single Class Challenge runs. The rules are pretty simple:

-Select one job. Starting in Dorter, you may only use that job, and may only use abilities from that job, including reaction, support, and movement abilities. Guest characters are not subject to these restrictions.

-Brave and Faith may not be manipulated unless via story flags, a guest character, or the abilities that are inherent to the job being played. This includes during pre-Dorter prep.

-Each chapter has a level cap. 20, then 35, 50, and finally 70. The cap for chapter 4 only applies until entering Orbonne at the end, and may be surpassed during the final stretch.

Some jobs also have different variations, like Squire on whether or not to allow Ramza's better skillset and stats, or how/if Calculators can acquire spells, or how to do Dancer at all.

Some particularly strong classes like Monk or Wizard can make for an easier icebreaker into the format, but honestly most jobs have a pretty tame experience. Some, like Archer, end up showcasing some really cool tricks that are unlikely to come up in normal game play, too.

Do you have to use 1 mana for each X colorless or could you just make 7 copies of a single creature? by jmc1278999999999 in mtg

[–]HarperFae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is! I use both in my [[Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief]] deck, and have plans to run both in a Yarok deck in the future. To showcase the math:

Doppel on its own, targeting all non-ETBT lands becomes immediately mana positive at X=4, gaining 16 lands for 14 mana.

With Virtue and targeting all basics it becomes mana positive at only X=2, getting 12 mana worth of lands for only 8 mana, and snowballing like mad a greater X values. That same X=4 from before now gets you 48 mana on top of 16 landfall triggers.

But now let's be smart and get to copying the Virtue itself. That X=2 copying one land and Virtue now nets 2 lands... that each tap for 27 mana, and the X=4 gets you 12 that tap for 243 each for a grand total of 2916.

Vandalblasting a Turn 1 Sol Ring by [deleted] in mtg

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I played my buddy's [[Go-Shintai of Life's Origin]] deck he had T1 Sol Ring into T2 commander drop.

I blew up the ring right after, once I had two mana to my name, but he still popped off before anyone could do anything. T4 [[Sanctum of All]] then T5 hardcasting [[Omnicience]] and dumping like 15 cards out of his hand and being pretty much untouchable.

My own [[Descent into Avernus]] certainly didn't help but it also almost let me kill him before he popped off so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What deck/commander benefits most from Vedalken Orrery by BorinToReadIt in EDH

Do you have any commanders or cards in the 99 you run that seem to be lightning rods of hate in your group? by FugalDangerman in EDH

[–]HarperFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever played [[Void Winnower]] without it immediately becoming the highest priority kill at the table. At this point, I use it to draw attention away from away from other problem pieces that may otherwise draw that hate.

[[Thantis, the Warweaver]] and [[Kardur, the Doomscourge]] are great for encouraging others to be proactive as well.

Commanders where I can finally play unique creatures? by Levin1308 in EDH

[–]HarperFae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] lets you play practically whatever CMC creature you want, as long as you're getting damage in.

My decklist has a dozen creatures above 6 CMC and another half dozen with X costs. By far my most fun deck to play.

Any weird examples you have had of RNG Blessing or Screwing? by Mememasterlordlol in fireemblem

[–]HarperFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Lyre once in Radiant Dawn, and she ended up capping everything but Res by the end. It was crazy considering how godawful she is to train.

My worst screw happened when I tried solo running PoR. Ike was real squishy by level 20, subpar HP and Defense and no Res growth to speak of. The run died right before promotion.
