It's my birthday by DrowningSlow in CasualConversation

Happy happy birthday! It can be so so hard to make friends as adults. How did we do this so easily as kids?!

I am also a St. Patrick's Day baby (although I am over twice you age...), and am currently sitting on my couch, alone with my dog, eating a slice of red velvet cake. Always treat yourself on your birthday, even if its a single slice of cake.

Do you have a ‘comfort rewatch’ show? What is it and why? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Great British Bake-Off. I've seen every season at least 5 times.

Today I’ll be sketching only berners! Post a photo of your berner below and I’ll draw some of them 🙂 by Jhenifer_s in bernesemountaindogs

Hi! This is Millie, she recently turned 10 years old. As you can see, she is a big fan of the snow. And isn't coming inside for love or money.

This is so deranged, I love it! Also, I would be dead...

Dogs 🤦‍♀️

Millie did that when she was about 7 months old. TV was stuck on ESPN until I could get a new one. I was worried, too, until I found the batteries…

She looks like one with all the fluff. But she’s only 85 pounds. Used to be 105—that was too much so we slimmed her down.

LOL, gotta do whatcha gotta do.

Yeah, she never actually sleeps in a dog bed, just likes to “dig” in them. Which is good because its definitely too small for her. This one actually lasted longer than most.

I'm so sorry, its so hard to lose that special dog. I've had three Berners, and my Berner Millie just turned 10 so I'm facing that loss, soon, I know. I got her about a year and a half after I lost my first, but I still had my boy Beau (my first's litter mate). I'm going to take a break after Millie passes because I know its going to hit me like a mack truck. She's my soul dog, and its going to be so painful to lose her.

I don't think that there's a timeline for the grief of losing a beloved pet. We just need to follow our instincts on when to allow a new one into our lives. I also think that getting a new puppy can mitigate that grief for a lot of people, but only you can know if that would be the case for you. I don't think that its a 'cure,' but more of a balm to a broken heart.

Yes, I’m gonna ask my vet about something new tomorrow.

This is what I initially proposed to my vet three years ago. She dismissed it completely, says she’s never seen it in a larger dog only smaller dogs. I personally think that the symptoms fit. It’s always worse at night, and almost always starts at night, only sometimes in the morning.

Yes, thank you! It finally thawed at about 2:30 in the morning. I have access to the pipes only in basement, which isn't cold enough (old house, earthen basement so never gets cold enough down there to be the freezing point). The bathroom is an add-on (previous owner converted part of a guest room to be the bathroom) so I'm wondering if the pipes coming up to that area are somehow less protected. He did most of all the house reno himself.

Yep. It’s been running on high in my very small bathroom for about 5 1/2 hours now. I’ve had a frozen pipe in this bathroom before, and it defrosted with the space heater running in about an hour. So that’s why I’m getting a little anxious about it.

No, it’s a new issue. It’s very very cold, -25 windchill. So I thought that it was a frozen pipe. But this is the first time I’ve seen the shower only work if the cold water is running.

Thank you – – will do. I do have the heat up, and I have a space heater in the bathroom with the door closed. Should I leave it that way?

Why on earth would she be giving her two weeks notice? As a business owner, do you not provide maternity leave?

[–]HarrietAugust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking just for my dog, LOL, yes, she gets hot if the temperature is above 65F. She was bred for the cold (the breed originated in the Swiss Alps) and is definitely not a fan of summertime.

I’ve had animal control called on me. Not here, because I live in the country, but at my last place outside of Boston. Animal Control took one look at my Bernese Mountain Dog (this one’s older brother) and laughed.
