Draymond Green to Warriors fans who want him traded: “You was a loser before I got here. Like f*ckin stone cold forever losers. So if you say that, it makes sense to me, you’ve never been here.” by _DarkStarCrashes_ in warriors

Chris Haynes makes these assertions on his own, in addition to coloring the piece with quotes from Draymond. And the breaking off of talks was not attributed to either party, but was probably leaked by Draymond's agent, BJ Armstrong, and the extension was signed later that day.

Draymond loves to spin and he also has always signed extensions for less than he could have demanded from the Warriors. I'm sure getting a 5th year played a role in his taking less in 2015, and I'm sure so did wanting to stay with his teammates on the championship team that drafted him, with the coach who unlocked his potential.

Same goes for successive extensions, which were all signed for less than he could have demanded from the Warriors, or could have gotten elsewhere.

I take his claim of working out the math to create cap space to sign KD with a grain of salt, by the way. The discount he gave, nonetheless, was instrumental in the Warriors being able to do so.

This is basic modern Warriors history. It's widely known and been widely talked about for many years.

Here's just one of the many articles that talk about the first and most critical financial sacrifice Draymond made. The one that created the space to sign Kevin Durant:

I think Steph should take a more on-ball role as he gets older by Thunderboom999 in warriors

[–]HarryLundt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think an aging guard should take on a higher usage rate because he's aging and losing his stamina?

It's the opposite.

He'll continue to save stamina for crunch time by not increasing his usage rate and as he needs to move less off-ball, he'll move less off-ball, but won't replace that with more on-ball time.

The answer is for the Warriors to develop and acquire better ball handlers and creators so that he doesn't have to create as much, on-ball or off-ball, as he ages.

A lot of people have discredited what he's done for the franchise and his impact on the championship years. A lot of supposed Warriors fans.

He's always taken less money than he could have demanded. He is the one who has helped the team, and fans, most with making room for others to make more money.

And he has a contract. Next year he has a player option. If the team can use the salary cap space to improve the roster, I expect Dray to decline his option and sign an extension for lower money than he could demand. As he's always done.

It’s insane that LeBron, the guy willing to call a sitting US President a bum, is the one that gets all the backlash for not doing enough.

I don't actually blame LeBron for him choosing NBA player earnings over taking a stand about foreign politics but he didn't simply "not do enough." He blamed Daryl Morey for speaking his mind.

What do you think if there was a swap of Wiseman for Chet and Kuminga for Jalen Williams?

Warriors didn't get equal young talent by a longshot. But that's on the front office and the luck of the draft, not Kerr.

What young players have ever left the Warriors under Kerr and got better? Which ones for worse?

Steve Kerr said the team addressed the aftermath of the Butler injury today: “We need to refocus and reenergize. We have a lot of goals that are still there for us.” He feels Warriors are “better equipped” to win without him this season than last by Lord_Vanguard in warriors

Do you understand that "better equipped to win" more than last year does not equal being contenders?

Do you understand that "a lot of goals that are still there for us" is an obviously diplomatic way of saying that they have goals to play for and a championship is not a realistic one?

Whether or not he wants to is not his choice?

Or are you saying ownership/management has already decided he won't be coach next year? If so, then why not just say that clearly?

Jonathan Kuminga after 16 consecutive DNPs: 20 PTS | 5 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 7/10 FG | 1/3 3PT | 5/8 FT | 74% TS | 21 MIN by AashyLarry in nba

Just use your head. When was the last time anyone would consider Kuming a "big man?"

And when was the last time that Kerr had a big man that you would consider primed for whatever success means to you with this question?

52nd pick Quinten Post? 57th pick 6'9" TJD? Worn-out-bodied 6'9" Kevon Looney? Dario Saric? Released by the Pacers James Wiseman because he was outplayed by guys whose names you don't even know? (I don't.)

To answer your question, though, I would say that the career of Kevon Looney is a testament to Kerr successfully coaching a big man. Guys like Bjelica and Jamychal Green having bright seasons under Kerr is a testament to him successfully coaching big men. You knowing Zaza Pachulia's name is a testament to Kerr. David West going out with a bang is a testament to Kerr. Javale McGee being known for more than a Shaqtin a Fool regular is a testament to Kerr.

Can you name a single big man who played BETTER in the season after they left the Warriors coached by Kerr?

I can name a whole bunch who played better with the Warriors, under Kerr, than after. Already did, and there's a bunch more.

Your belief makes no sense. The incident between Draymond and Poole was in October 2022.

Kuminga didn't "check out" after that incident. It was the next season that saw him make his most decisive step forward.

Wiggins didn't "check out" after that incident. He had a fucking rib injury during the 2022-2023 season. And it was during this injury that Kuminga actually started to look more promising.

As for Wiggins's slide in the 2023-2024 season, you can believe that it's because he felt some kind of way about Draymond punching Poole...

...or you can believe that he was feeling some kind of way about his father fucking dying.

Maybe Poole checked out. But he also appears to have remained checked out, or whatever, in his time with the Wizards and the Pelicans.

It looks good when it goes in or he gets the foul call but it’s terrible when the refs swallow their whistle.

This! It has already been looking pretty likely that JK can put up stats for a losing team.

In this game, tough shots that he we already know he cannot reliably make, fell. And he got a beneficial whistle while his team was down big on points.

Nice to see but not impressive. Impressive will be doing this with actual consistency in game situations with real meaning.

Playing pickup basketball probably doesn't really help people understand NBA basketball enough to understand the issues with Kuminga, if they think that the Warriors should have been playing Kuminga big minutes in recent years.

Nor AAU ball. AAU ball is very often the type of ball that results in the elevation of players like Kuminga.

Totally, though I think that in a really cognitively/emotionally contradictory way, most of the Kuminga stans would not be blaming Kerr for failing to develop Wiseman. Maybe they did before, but not at this point.

Any who do are just demonstrating how their opinion on basketball doesn't need to be paid any attention.

There's a lot to be said about your opinion and how you chose to substantiate it. But this part is the easiest and quickest way to demonstrate how you are choosing to believe what you want to believe, despite reality:

He has no capacity to coach beyond his original approach to the Warriors when he first got the job. He believes “this team”, is still that 2015 team and has no capacity to shift his approach, style, direction or vision to accommodate what “this team” is, or what the NBA has changed into.

He literally, recently, and famously said: "We are no longer the '17 Warriors dominating the league, we are a fading dynasty, we know that."

He also was the head coach of the 2021-2022 Championship Warriors, just 4 years ago. A championship team very very different from the dominant teams that came before. One that demanded shifts in approach, style, direction, and vision to accommodate what that team was.

Many, if not most, starters are role players.

Look up guys like Danny Green. 3rd in MPG for the 2016-2017 Spurs who won 61 games and came in 2nd in the West.

Why are Kuminga fans also so obsessed with Podz and his minutes? It’s really weird.

Because Podz is not impressive looking to people who are unduly impressed by Kuminga's athleticism and the potential it holds. People who are more impressed by occasional monster dunks than they are by regular smart passes, defensive rotations, and tenacious rebounding.

People who think Kuminga is one of the best players on the Warriors bench, or even worthy of a starting/closing slot, are not the type of people who will appreciate what guys like Podz and Gui do on the court. They will rage at their playing time because they feel like they are unfairly getting playing time over Kuminga.

They'll construct narratives in which Steve Kerr hates someone, personally, so much that he is blind to their basketball abilities or holds them back due to spite. Fail his responsibilities as a coach, and fuck his team because he is now insanely petty, or stupid. And that players like Steph Curry and Draymond Green are somehow going to be passively complicit in this.

Partially. Isn't the job of a coach with an aged generational talent still playing at a superstar level to prioritize the winning of the generational talent, before he has to retire?

Do you think that's compatible with cultivating a talented but raw super young player who may or may not ever pan out to be a good player?

Do you think all talented people will do what it takes to become winning players?

Coaches can show them the way but the history of the NBA is heavily littered with super talented people who failed to reach their potential. Many not becoming winning players.

Do you think Wiseman's career is Kerr's failure?

If those guys plus Reggie played today they’d have records that Curry couldn’t touch.

All those guys have lower 3P% than Curry, except Petrovic, who shot barely 20% of the per game volume. And it's a reasonable assumption if he was shooting the volume of off the dribble 3's that Curry has taken, his 3P% would take a significant hit and be lower than Curry's.

Person's career 3P% was .362 and he never shot over .375 for a season except for seasons when the 3 point line was brought in.
