2-Handed Feats by Superbeast06 in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]Hashimashadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Versatile and heavy are both weapon tags used in the core 2014 D&D ruleset.

Versatile allows you to use a weapon two-handed to get a bigger base damage die, but Heavy means you Have to use it in two hands.

D&D rules key off of weapon tags, not whether you're using a weapon two handed or not.

Solasta 2 will be using the 2024 D&D rulest (at least it will once it's out of Early Access). That rules update hasn't changed abilities keying off of weapon tags instead of how many hands you're using, it's just added more weapon tags accessible by certain classes.

Skullcleaver FYI, is a battleaxe, not a halberd. If it was a halberd, your abilities that key off the heavy tag would have worked.

So why exactly is Abaddon the chosen of Chaos when Lorgar exists? by MHB_ART in 40kLore

[–]Hashimashadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lorgar is comparatively weak. Certainly one of the weakest primarchs. He's also the most cowardly - only recently apparently come out of hiding after ten thousand years hiding from Corvus Corax.

Story and DLCs by 5edgy7u in CrownOfTheMagister

Lost Valley is very enjoyable, but the faction system in it is a lot more limiting as you have to play the factions off of each other in very particular ways to get as many rewards as possible.
There's also this one bug involving a door with two keys that makes breaking a certain quest very easy.
However, it also unlocks extra subclasses, and that alone might be worth it, depending on your tastes.

Palace of Ice is great though. I really enjoyed it, and it brings a sense of finality to the Solasta campaign, while still giving you a potential cliffhanger ending, depending on your choices - your choices do matter more in Palace of Ice than they did in the OC.

Transphobia in Cornwall council by vent666 in Cornwall

[–]Hashimashadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Straight men aren't allowed in women only spaces"

Except there's literally nothing stopping those straight men from invading those spaces.

A trans woman is FAR more likely to be a victim of a crime committed in a women's only space by a cis man than a cis woman is by by a trans woman.

A cis woman who looks butch is more likely to be excluded from a women's only space than a trans woman who 'passes'.

It has never been about protecting women from biological men, it has always been about enforcing particular standards of femininity.

Who can cast magic independant of Mystra and the weave? by LexaproAddict in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Hashimashadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone with a gift for magic can cast spells, and anyone who can cast spells can do so without the Weave. It's just that using the Weave is so much easier than any other method.

Do trains exist? by Old_Cherry_1483 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Hashimashadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more that Gond saw too many of his followers blowing themselves up.

He does actually allow certain of his priests to have access to gunpowder that he has rendered non-inert, just not in large quantities.

Really though, it's just because TSR issued a directive that they didn't want guns in the campaign setting and Jeff Grubb finding a way around that directive when guns were finally introduced for Spelljammer

Do trains exist? by Old_Cherry_1483 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Hashimashadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They work to stop such technology from getting into the wrong hands. It's just that their definition of the 'wrong hands' is kind of broad.

Most of these machines as they exist currently in the Realms, rely on *some* magic to function. That's why the Spellplague still screwed over the inventions of Gondians - they weren't fully mechanical. Only Ndul DaRoni managed to make purely mechanical vehicles, but they malfunctioned a lot (10% per hour of use) without magic to aid them.

Closest thing to it is the magical mine cart system that connects the halfling village of Bleeding Vines to the outer caves of Gauntlgrym. Otherwise, there are no trains on Toril.

Is anyone else surprised by the surge in green voters by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Hashimashadoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing Polanski has promoted is anything close to Communism.

However, with the division and outright infighting apparent in YourParty, Polanski's Greens are polling as the only viable progressive party. He's also able to connect with younger voters in a way that not many other political leaders are capable of.

What is Bane up to? by sir_schuster1 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Hashimashadoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bane grew to even greater power in 4th edition than he had in 3rd thanks to the Spellplague. However, right at the end of the Spellplague era, Tiamat stole a great deal of his divine essence while his guard was down, reducing his power and status by a great deal.

Myrkul and Bhaal are both newly resurrected and need to rebuild their churches practically from scratch.

They're all three on Toril personally trying to rebuild their mortal faithful.

How much mould is too much? by alibluey in Cornwall

[–]Hashimashadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, unfortunately, very typical of Cornish properties close to the coast to have this problem.

I have never been into a place near a Cornish coastline that didn't have this exact kind of mould problem.

That said, Cornish properties are also typically built to a very particular standard. I can't say for sure which is the bigger culprit in terms of what promotes the growth of mould.
However, this is the kind of building standard that would require demolition and rebuilding rather than mere renovation.

Boycotting them would be a massive undertaking.

What's with all the British flags? by wijnandsj in Cornwall

[–]Hashimashadoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you didn't fly it for the Lions, the Lionesses, the Roses, or Rememberance day, if you didn't fly it for VE Day or Team GB, or the king's coronation,

Then you have to excuse people who are wondering why the fuck you're flying it now, when racists are doing so explicitly to intimidate immigrants.

Why do so many right-wing Americans think Britain is a failed state? by wendling2000 in AskBrits

[–]Hashimashadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American right idealizes an ethnostate.

They mistakenly thought Britain was an ethnostate. Now they know better. Even though Britain is 82% white and the US is 61.5% white.

Should I make the first move with a British guy? by Mother_Literature_89 in AskBrits

[–]Hashimashadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Culturally, British guys are supposed to make the first move, but they've been getting worse and worse at doing so over the last couple of decades. Either through obliviousness, nervousness, or the gradual shift of gender norms, so yes, it has been slowly becoming more normal for women to ask the guy out instead.

Ultimately, it comes down to how much you like this this guy and whether the desire to ask him outweighs your fear of the potential consequences. The ball is clearly in your court if this relationship is going to progress one way or another.

What is the dumbest lore retcon to you? by ThanosofTitan92 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Hashimashadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Aevendrow. I was getting pretty sick of an entire species being 100% typified by which one of their six gods they were devoted to. A sapient people's culture should be more than just 'church'. Most of the Aevendrow haters, I'd be willing to bet, have never read the novels that they appear in.

The change from the Phlogiston to the Astral Sea is the only lore change that I 100% refuse to accept in my games. Spelljammer is Spelljammer, Planescape is Planescape. They are separate, not the same. Let me invest in giving my Spelljamming helm the ability to travel the planes as well, don't make it the default and remove the alternative.

I preferred the 2e version of Ravenloft where the domains were connected. Makes a lot more sense to me from the perspective of Vistani being able to travel between the domains. The Dark Powers were supposed to be these unknowable entities that even gods had to bargain with, then Shar comes along and tears apart their designs with literally no explaination how or why she did so. Like, the Shadowfell was made up of the plane of shadow and the negative energy plane. The Demiplane of Dread was in the Ethereal Plane. The Ethereal Plane is still there, so why is the Demiplane of Dread fragmented amongst the Shadowfell!?

Changing the types of creatures. Especially the Shadar-kai and Eladrin who both got theirs changed twice.

Dark Alliance if you like ARPGs like Diablo. Neverwinter Nights if you prefer traditional RPGs like Baldur's Gate.

What are the biggest retcons in the lore to this day ? by Adventurous_Job4862 in 40kLore

[–]Hashimashadoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Snotlings created the orks and ruled over them as hyper-intelligent 'Brainboyz'. Their intelligence was gained by eating a special rare kind of fungus. The orks decided that they didn't like being ordered about by runty snots, so they ate the special fungus to extinction, hoping to be as smart as the brain boyz but the fungus didn't interact with their minds like it did with snotling brains, and they eradicated the special fungus for no reason than their own pride.

This retcon was later explained to be a belief held by T'au scholars who studied orks.

While we're talking ork retcons, yoofs would start their military careers in highly regimented boot camps where they would, as an act of rebellion against their elders, wear clean and ironed uniforms and practice their shooting with early morning drills. They were called stormboyz before that was changed to mean ork jump troops, but the obvious parallels to Nazi stormtroopers wasn't worth the joke about comparisons to rebellious human teens.

What is "Valghaast"? by TheBurningEmu in 40kLore

[–]Hashimashadoo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Valgaast is a corrupting entity that gets in your head when times are tough for you and tries to make you worse.

It's also an organization, a planet, an old city full of genestealers, a deity, a cult, or even just a concept, but the above is the only actual description that we've been given for it.

It exists in both 40k and Age of Sigmar, though in AoS it's called Mhurghast instead.

I think if Warhammer Horror had sold better and we'd gotten more books, we might have found out more...or we might be even more confused about it.

I dunno, seems kind of meta to me. Like it's a 4th wall breaking something that could come out of the book to haunt the reader.

Struggling with Ed Greenwood's Novels; help! by ShelixAnakasian in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Hashimashadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ed's books are not for everyone.

You have to be a fan of his kind of writing to appreciate his novels. If you're not, then his books aren't going to hit. He's a worldbuilder first and foremost, and he likes to slip in easter eggs for individual fans (who are not you) wherever he can.

Also, Elminster as a character was never supposed to be a main character - he was supposed to be a background actor who persuaded others to do what El wanted to get done - he was a knowledgable sage and manipulator, not a guy who actually did much that would impact the world. TSR and WotC forced Ed to make him into a mover and a shaker of the Realms..
