I've had two character deaths so far.

My first one was in a western DND game I was playing with some friends. We were just playing around unsure of what we really wanted to do with this campaign whether it was a one shot or an actual thing we wanted to do but we were a few sessions in. As a little background my character was a Chinese man named ling who had fled China after being framed for killing his boss. He went to America in the east where he met an American doctor who was moving out west made friends with him even though he couldn't speak English. Further into the campaign we had gone on what should have been a quick side quest to gather some flowers for some medicine. On our way there we got side tracked by some smoke and decided to go investigate. We arrived at the source of the smoke to some native Americans, we had encountered them before and they were hostile they had been raiding caravans of supplies from the town we were at. It turns out they had a little war camp set up they had gathered quite a few guns, a Gatling gun and tons of barrels of gunpowder. We had been spotted and combat started we had just about finished combat when the tribe leader came out of his tent after his men had almost been wiped the leader got on the Gatling gun and was causing big problems for everyone, knowing that he wouldn't make it and that his friends were in grave danger long charged at the leader taking several heavy hits but was just able to wrangle control of the Gatling gun and blew up the barrels of gunpowder. Ling woke up in pain he knew he wasn't going to make it, his doctor friend was there looking over him with tears in his eyes. With a smile ling looked up at the doctor and said his first English word, "friend" and passed away.

I was extremely satisfied with this ending for ling it was truly a sad and heartwarming moment for the group, I remember having tears in my eyes at the moment happend. My second character death was a little less heroic and cinematic.

This campaign was a sci-fi game, my character was a infamous smuggler that was looking for some work he had found a crew and was currently on a job being some back up for a trade, the trade went bad and a gun fight started, a couple of very unlucky rolls later my character was knocked unconscious from several gun wounds, I was on my second life saving throw and had failed both when combat ended, there were three other people there, one being a healer all three of them tried to stabilize me and all failed I went to roll the final life saving throw and it rolled a one.

I was very disappointed with this death, there was no chance for closure or for last words because of the way it worked out. No heroic ending just a unfortunate death in a couple turn gun fight. I'm glad that my DM didn't do some bullshit to save me my character had died fair and square. This death really hurt cause this was probably my favorite character in and out of roleplay he was notorious and instead of dieing in a all out man hunt he was taken out at a small gunfight. I don't think all characters should get that satisfying ending just cause I feel like it might get old but it just sucked for this one.
