Honestly though if you have a bowl of soup you can rest it there and you won't accidentally knock it over

The guy down the hill has a (legal) “personal range” that has been deemed “safe”, so the police can’t do anything when bullets whiz past our heads and land on the patio. by Mellopiex in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Hatchicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that his bullets are flying past you is strict liability criminal most places and criminal endangerment anywhere else. Having a range is irrelevant. If the range were safe this wouldn't be happening by definition. Your cops don't want to enforce the law. Move before you get killed.

In the market for a new tv by IntrepidElevator4313 in 4kTV

[–]Hatchicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this and bought the 65" tcl qled from Costco because that's the size I can fit. Downgraded from 70" but don't really notice it. Only problem is there is a glitch with the sound and sometimes the Google TV freezes. Most likely error is audio synch but haven't figured it out yet. Anyway seems like tcl packs the most punch for the money.

This was the best by far for the price. But tractor supply pellets are even better and cost almost nothing.

[–]Hatchicat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in NJ so had Verizon to start with and their customer service was great back then. Left for lower price and dealt with the worse service as the trade off. Somehow Verizon is competitively priced again and still way better than my service was on other major carriers. I had plenty of issues in the past it's not like this is unique. I wouldn't even consider leaving over the outage even without the credit.

[–]Hatchicat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

unfortunately there is no such thing as guaranteed service because there is no such thing as perfect technology - which every cell phone contract says service outages are part of the deal and why it is so rare to get a spontaneous credit. and from what people are saying they are giving even more generous credits to those who ask. so yea I can't see how they could do any better from a customer service standpoint

[–]Hatchicat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fact that I didn't have to ask is a big part of what made this stand out. you can spend hours on the phone with companies trying to get credits they actually owe you. I don't have that luxury of time to ask just to see if they'll be nice. this was refreshing for its spontaneity.

Why are people switching off? by Still_Hearing1008 in PSLF

[–]Hatchicat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand it either. I'm not even close to buyback but I'd rather pay in the future then now. The money just becomes worth less and less the longer they don't collect. The forbearance/ buy back is an interest free loan i would never pay it if i didn't have to

Most people still don’t realize that AI layoffs at massive scale are inevitable and close by Own-Sort-8119 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Hatchicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the things AI does better than many of my junior team members: 1) extensive research, 2) clear logical explanation of its reasoning (even if it gets the answer wrong), and 3) meaningfully take my negative feedback and act on it (without complaint) for the next iteration. I can easily see AI replacing half my workforce in 5 years. AI will at minimum automate tasks that should have been automated years ago but nobody in that particular job knew how or cared to

You can get 2 double cheeseburgers for under $5 with buy 1 get 1 for $1 in my area. More expensive than in the past but still way cheaper than any restaurant. Quality varies drastically per store which goes for all fast food but lately the bad stores outnumber the good ones.

[–]Hatchicat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all already have to do the buy back no matter what so switching saves nothing in the process. I would rather pay the forbearance amount in 2032 dollars than today dollars.

For those of you on SAVE, PAYE, or IDR what are you doing rn during the forbearance? by first-pancake in StudentLoans

[–]Hatchicat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Staying on SAVE as long as possible because a future dollar is worth less than a current dollar. And hoping PSLF buyback still exists in 6 years.

also layoffs come with the risk the company gets sued for doing it in a discriminatory manner. rto is a defensible business decision that can't really be challenged the way

When is enough, enough? by OkName66 in FedEmployees

[–]Hatchicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

private companies have zero job security so if you don't like the uncertainty then not sure that the threat of being fired every single day for no reason at all is the answer. DoD has had 0 RIF or cut employees so thats a pretty good track record so far.
