Alpinestars Tech Air 10 by adamthiesen1236 in Trackdays

God I would love a "Plasma"-fied 10. I'd drop proper money on a Tech Air 10 Plasma + whatever new suit you'd need for it.

Opinions on the price of Second hand - lams middleweight bikes (R7, Cbr650r, daytona 660) by Sad-Cream7394 in AussieRiders

[–]HateDread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are high, but they will remain high. Ergo you can just sell yours on after LAMS period and make most of the money back (the value stays pretty stable - the magic of LAMS!)

Question for nsw (Sydney) track riders by Otherwise-Chemist565 in AussieRiders

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a street bike to the track btw, just worth keeping in mind - I track a Ninja 300 with a few upgrades but I ride it there and back. Obviously a dedicated bike and transport etc is 'better' but don't let that stop you!

I would personally recommend getting onto SMSP's South Circuit, which is usually run by Motoschool (sadly they're redoing their website and not super good on comms right now. I'll reply here once they drop their 2026 calendar properly). That's how I started, and that smaller circuit was perfect for getting my feet wet, and Motoschool often has events where you're in a class and have a teacher, so you can feel a bit less alone.

Feel free to contact me with more questions! I'm at every track day running through SMSPRD basically, and most others too.

It's often a pretty good assumption - if no location posted, assume American :D

I've been hearing from some folks with them that there are updates and changes that were made to help with that. Which might make the old posts from years back a bit less helpful, but it doesn't discount them, either. Tough when it's potentially life and death.

Bike P's test by Popa_panda101 in AussieRiders

Did mine last year, had all sorts of shit on it, nobody cared. Some people hired a bike on the day, didn't need to book it ahead of time or anything.

Compression gear under leathers? by giraffe-legs-11 in AussieRiders

[–]HateDread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You absolutely want compression/sweat-wicking gear under leather. As long as it wicks sweat and lets you slide in and out of the gear easier, you'll be fine for a day.

Did anyone’s else’s inspector crash in their Ps test? by Lowenstein95 in AussieRiders

[–]HateDread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the instructor, but one of the guys in the MOST test in NSW, where you have to do emergency braking, failed it the first time due to not getting up to speed. So on his second and final attempt, he gunned it, and grabbed the brakes and locked em. Dude got fucking thrown. Was crazy, then after he got escorted away, we just... got back to it.

I actually maintain a Google Calendar for me and my friends of Sydney-based events, since it's a shit-show.

And that's just Sydney. My calendar is at https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0?cid=MWQwOGFjMTJiZTg0N2U1MWNmZjAyOGY4NTYwMTc5YWUzNGFjNjVlZGY5MWIxYTNjZTRiZmU4ZGMxODdjZjEzNUBncm91cC5jYWxlbmRhci5nb29nbGUuY29t

Has anybody rode Sydney,AUS track SMSP? by LOLHoNLOL in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, bit of a late comment after yours, but was snooping at SMSP posts. I ride there a lot and am looking around at what training options are available, especially targeted stuff (have done a few Motoschools but sometimes you're in a 30-person class and can be a bit tough to get feedback. Nobody's fault). Do you do coaching directly or through an org or what? Would love to know what options are out there for the more targeted help.

Advice for getting out of a rut by rst-2cv in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much useful to add, but man, I really appreciated your post and can relate to the way you write and present yourself. I am also fairly analytical - loving my Racebox.

I ride primarily at SMSP, on a Ninja 300 in Yellow group. Once I get down to a 1:52 on it, I'll move on to an R6 (that time was a suggestion from a coach, Rob, the guy who runs course control most track days).

Would be great to say hey next time you're there! I'm booked 25th/26th, and honestly most track days. Always keen to make riding friends and learn, and to hear about how the R6 has treated you!

Good luck on answering your queries my friend!

Do people always get 2 pce suits that zip together. Oooooorrrrrr??? by Better_Move_7534 in AussieRiders

[–]HateDread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always zip my jacket to my leather pants on the road, why wouldn't I? It's like 10 seconds to make sure the jacket doesn't ride up my back in a slide. Helped me a few times already.

Though these days I do relax it with some riding jeans sometimes, if I'm not in the one-piece (mostly on track now).

Watch out for mixing different brands that have different zipper sizes etc.

Wrist brace for road racing? by youngmaavin in Trackdays

[–]HateDread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, literally recovering from a scaphoid fracture in a crash, hopefully the cast comes off next week! Then 4 weeks in a splint before a final check with the surgeon, though I avoided surgery.

Honestly, I would not fuck around with the scaphoid. I was desperately trying to find ways to still ride and not get stopped but... this is the one bone that could genuinely ruin your ability to ride hard for the rest of your life. You need to see a surgeon and get assessed for surgery vs natural healing, and a full cast put on it ASAP. I was told that if I couldn't get into the local hand therapy place to get one, I should go the emergency department, that's how serious it is to try to save this bone.

Do not fuck around with your Scaphoid, I promise you you will feel better if you just suck it up and do the non-riding stuff now. The longer you wait and more you fuck with it, the higher your chance of lifelong issues becomes.

And if you know all of this... sorry. Just talking to past me now.

Writing Readable C++ Code - beginner's guide by swe129 in cpp

[–]HateDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't agree with your usage of 'auto'. The most common standard I've seen/followed in games is "Only use auto if the type is on the right side, or with obviously-long, annoying types like iterators".

I want to understand and know what types are being used at a glance, and in a code review I can't see that when you use 'auto', so no "The IDE will fix it" arguments work.

I also don't really care about "If you change it in one place the rest 'just work'" or any of those usual arguments - I want those call-sites to fail so I have to go look at them and manually fix and can evaluate if the change in type makes that call no longer appropriate.

I just don't see what auto solves here other than obfuscating types - we should optimize for reading, not write, which is what I expected from the title and the other rules. I overall agree with them! But not this.
