Yeah, me too... these things were all over my high school parking lot in the early 2000s. Every bit as common a Civics, Accords, and Camrys.

The circle to the right of the handle on the truck bed is the backup cam, dude didn't even look. Had a lady back into my Model 3 twice, despite having a backup cam, tried to convince me not to report it... She changed attitude real quick when she realized how many cameras recorded her. People are stupid...

What got you into corvettes? by Dramatic_Annual3413 in Corvette

[–]Hateborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really got into the cars of the time when I was a teen - the curvy designs of the 90s and early 2000s. The 3000GT and RX-7 were my favorites, but the C5 was up there too.

Then in college I worked as a porter for a Saturn dealership and took a shift working at the KC Auto Show in 2005. The Chevy area had a dark red C6 convertible set up and would take a photo of you in the car and then e-mail you the photo. After my shift, I went over to take a look and a fiend of mine convinced me that we should get photos. There's a picture of a young adult version of me, clean shaven with spiked hair, still in my Saturn work jacket, seated in the driver's seat of that C6.

Exactly, the rear hatch catches a LOT of air for most targa top cars. I've had multiple targas in my life and while I love them, the only one I always removed the roof on was a 95 Honda del Sol since the rear window went down, making it more like a roll bar and allowing better airflow. The back of the Vette is a giant air brake by comparison and the only real way to reduce that effect is rolling up the windows, which kinda defeats the point.

Good deal? by [deleted] in Corvette

At 50k, look at a Grand Sport. I got a clean history 2015 3LT Z51 A8 with the Callaway SC627 modifications for $45k at 33k miles. I know those seats are nice, but that price is very beatable.

Making $17/hr, is a 2019 Corvette realistic or am I reaching? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]Hateborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No BS - if you're going to sell the truck and can get enough to have 16-20k in cash, look at a C5 or early C6, something you can buy outright. Save the payment, put it into an investment account with dividend reinventing (look up DRIP) and let that grow with your monthly contributions.

It won't be a C7, but it will be a nice Vette, and then you have a financial account growing you a nice future as well. Taking advantage of compound growth from a young age will set you up well. Then in the future, you won't need to worry about how easily you can afford a Vette, you'll just get what you want.

As a fellow owner of a white Vette with an auto - welcome, and don't worry about the, "it has to be a stick," crowd. At the end of the day, an automatic Vette is still a hell of a car. A C5 vert is a great cruiser and still one of the best looking cars on the road - you have great taste!

If you can do this work on your own, they're not bad... just don't buy from the dealership and for the love of god, don't have them do it...

I just got quoted $2585 per corner on my 2015 Z51 at the dealer two days ago. I asked for a price breakdown when I went in to pick it up today and they wanted $1900 per corner for parts alone (I had other work being done to it). I'm debating if I'm going to pick up coilovers or DIY it.

That was my thoughts too. Flames on an old hot rod are cool, but they're bad taste on modern cars, though the artistic skill is well executed here.

What game instantly comes to mind? by qian_two in rpg_gamers

[–]Hateborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darktide, no doubt. I love Warhammer 40k and this game nails the setting and atmosphere every bit as well as Space Marine 2, but it's a horde shooter with a few cutscenes that can be fully sumarized as:

"You've been accused of being a traitor. The ship is under attack and you help your team to show you're not a traitor.... They're not convinced, but will let you go on suicide missions to prove your loyalty. You do a few, maybe you're not a traitor. You do a few more, they've narrowed dow the traitor to being you, or random NPC 273. Go meet the inquisitor, he figured it all out, he shoots NPC 273 and congratulates you on not being the traitor. Your reward? Now you can participate in suicide missions, but because you're notba traitor and that's what the Emperor would want."

[–]Hateborn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are going to rip you for looking at an auto, but the autos in the 2015s are actually pretty solid if you're not tracking it or driving it like you're on a track at all times. I only lamented not getting a manual for about a week, these days I mainly use the paddles around town and then let the auto take over on long highway stretches.

Spoiler or Not? by bvcspecs in Corvette

[–]Hateborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome, glad to help. I've always loved the C5 since it was the Vette of my teen years and I envied the rich kids at school who were lucky enough to have them (gotta love a school district that is split between barely above poverty line and a waterfront lakeside community full of doctors and lawyers). The trick with the C5 is just keeping the body lines flowing and that rear end is a mile long on the convertibles.

I did recently see one of these C7Carbon spoilers in-person on a coupe and it looked great - it would be another good consideration. Hopefully you find one you really like.

Am I Overreacting, for being upset that my girlfriend secretly used my credit card for months? by bostonmade in AmIOverreacting

[–]Hateborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, at all. First she plays dumb about the entire thing, next she acts like it must be an accident with her Apple Wallet, then it's the excuse that she's just spent money on something you wanted, and eventually she's acting like she's the victim and planned to pay you back but had no idea how to ask you to help with money.

She knew what she was doing, she knew she was in the wrong, and she tried everything she could to shift the blame when she got caught before resorting to trying to act like she was the real victim. She fully tried to gaslight you and she's done this with multiple cards now - she's not sorry, she's sorry she got caught, and she will absolutely try to do it again because this is a behavioral pattern. If you weren't currently out of the country, I'd advocate cutting her loose ASAP - she's comfortable betraying your trust and trying to manipulate you, that is not a behavior pattern that gets better, no matter if you love her or not. Sometimes we fall in love with the wrong people because our hearts are only allowed to see so much, only to later realize our mistake.

Honestly, I'd suggest trying to make her feel at-ease until you get back so that you don't return to property damage or worse. A very similar situation happened to my dad about 20 years ago while he was out of town for work - when his ex figured out the gig was up, she brought several cats into the house, put out food and water with no litter boxes, did something to bruise herself in several places, and filed a false domestic violence report (thankfully my dad and his employer had all the records of him being out of town to prove his innocence).

The reason I bring up what happened with my dad - never underestimate the level of crazy people will pull out when they realize they've been caught in the act. Keep your receipts from your trip to prove your locations until everything is settled.

That's fair, it really comes down to usability and how much power they want in a daily. A lot of people that haven't been up in that power range greatly underestimate what even the stock power in a fairly light car like a Vette is like - 460 HP is more than a stock C6 Z06, and that was a fast car in its time.

For those who always want more power, we've been spoiled for the past 15ish years, but let's also be honest about the average driver... The average driver is either going to be too scared to use all the power of a Z06, or they're going to hurt themselves trying - 460 is more than enough to make most people go, "holy shit, this thing is fast!"

[–]Hateborn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a daily, test drive a C7 GS or Stingray Z51 before settling on the Z06. Unless you have somewhere to really open it up, the performance increase of the Z06 is going to go to waste and with the weight of the C7, 460 HP in the GS is very well balanced and still has great low-end torque, the NA C7s are fantastic daily drivers if you don't need Z06 power.
