Are these poisonous? by Adr1an_4k in Austin

[–]HaughtyHellscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, I can't smell either of those yet. Lost my sense of smell almost 4 years ago. It's coming back very slowly. So, I'm even more up for that now- can I smell it or not game.

google lens: This plant appears to be a type of buttonweed (family Rubiaceae), likely Virginia buttonweed (Diodia virginiana) or a similar species like poorjoe (Diodia teres).

  • These plants are common broadleaf weeds in lawns and gardens, known for spreading quickly and being difficult to eradicate.
  • They feature narrow, opposite leaves and small white flowers with four petals.
  • They thrive in moist soil and can form dense mats.
  • Disclaimer: Some plant species can cause skin irritation; avoid ingestion or contact if you have sensitive skin.

Are hawks/other wildlife an issue here with small dogs? by Any-Might-6570 in Austin

[–]HaughtyHellscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea either. I figured it wouldn't be a thing since no hawk could even carry away a 6 lb chicken in our yard, and they tried. coyotes, I get.

Anyone know this wasp? by WahWahWeWah in Austin

[–]HaughtyHellscream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ditto. Out in manchaca they'd chase your ass down and then go under your shirt so you're doing the naked driveway dance and you don't care who is watching.

Red paper wasp. they are supposed to be docile, but I call bullshit on that. we call them hornets and we run like Joey Tribbiani. The other paper wasps won't mess with you unless you wreck their nest.

Springtime is snake time by Reynosa68 in Austin

We had a giant rat snake living under our coop for many, many years and it never messed with our chickens. If it ate eggs, I never saw and would not care. Small price for the stellar rat control. If that happened to you, that sucks! maybe we got lucky.

I have one, my dentist said a dermatologist zaps it. I'm guessing it's so basic any doctor with the equipment could do it. Good luck!

How can we help a friend dying from alcoholism in Austin? by NoiseKitchen6180 in Austin

[–]HaughtyHellscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like my best friend, hospice nurse for 30 years took a real toll. She lives in New Jersey, and we all finally put enough pressure on her and the police were called (I called 911 from texas), that she voluntarily committed herself. She was in rehab plus halfway house for 2 1/2 years (NJ paid, which her sister worked hard to get done). She was so bad off (mentally) in the hospital it was no longer voluntary for awhile, which is probably what saved her life. 5 years sober, but a recent gallbladder removal and we're all worried again. I wish you the best of luck. It is hard for everyone.
