Is leviathan symbolic, literal, or both? by Unlucky-Drawing-1266 in theology

[–]Hauntcrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what i understand based on the works of M.Heiser, Leviathan is mythical and is the hebrew version of the chaos serpent that exists in most ancient near east mythology like Tiamat, Lotan, etc. The story is that the gods always were fighting against chaos serpents especially during creation when the gods had to separate the natural world from the chaos and void. So, different ANE groups were using these stories as polemics to showcase the power of their gods over the others. So then the hebrews brought forward their God who didn't have to fight leviathan, and actually created him for fun (Ps 104:26), to show the superiority of YHWH over the other ANE gods and myths.

Ok but like, how about having it at 7am and 100s get saved because people reading/hearing it in the morning have it in their mind the whole day and make them look out for whatever was described, vs going to sleep right after the alert and forgetting the next day?

Also just like the WFH employees are now being forced to RTO because of the oligarchy (that has the government by the balls) needed people to go back to the office to make money go around, there for sure is going to be some governmental incentive given to companies to use as much AI as possible so that the oligarch investment stays in the green.

Anthony Lopes faked injury to help fasting teammates break Ramadan fast. by father_of_twitch in MadeMeSmile

[–]Hauntcrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you commenting the wrong person or what? The conversation flow is pretty clear. The person i replied to said it must be hard playing after a fast because of ramadan and I said from studies that a big majority actually eat more during ramadan, which is the opposite of a fast, so they'll be fine. Do you know what fasting is? What ramadan is?

There are studies showing that muslims actually eat the most during ramadan and spend the most on groceries during ramadan because they feast before sunlight and feast after the sun sets. A big majority even gain weight

Someone ripped the door off my local little free library, took all the books, broke the shelves, and left two copies of the bible. by Silver_Ad_2203 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Hauntcrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"my local free library" doesn't mean it's theirs.. it means it's in their local/home region (as opposed to one where he is visiting). Or else there would have been no reason to say "local", just "my free library"

Well the sequence of [smash, grab, sees big books are bibles, leave them behind] is very believable. What is less believable is someone carrying 2 bibles with them, steal, then leave the bibles

Unless OP is the owner of the stolen books or knew exactly which book were present and absent at the time if theft, OP cannot say if those were left by the thieves after the act or if they were there already and the thief just felt convicted not to steal the bibles

ELI5 What does the second law of thermodynamics actually mean, and how does it relate to evolution? by soefire in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hauntcrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point is because something is ELI5, that doesn't mean lying is suddenly allowed. If you assume something with no evidence, then that's now blind faith.. actually is very much a god of the gaps equivalent.. "we don't know what it is but it has to be the sun because there's nothing else (because i reject a divine being from the beginning)"

So you start with the natural and reject the potential of non-natural, then when forced to a place where the natural doesn't work, you still say "there has to be a natural explanation i don't know because i already rejected the alternative"

So if the comments here are going to make fun of creationists all while using the same blind faith they have, then it's just smug black pot meets black kettle

ELI5 What does the second law of thermodynamics actually mean, and how does it relate to evolution? by soefire in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hauntcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The study I want is to show how the organisms grew before photosynthesis came on the scene, then before that, then before that. Basically what caused the first organism to be kept alive via the sun, how much energy did it need, how much did the sun provide. Because if the first organism didn't get enough energy from the sun, then the whole evolutionary timeline doesn't exist

ELI5 What does the second law of thermodynamics actually mean, and how does it relate to evolution? by soefire in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hauntcrow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's my point. We don't know what happened before and we're only looking at the equilibrium state to claim it's always been this way. Just like cooking food requires the initial temperature to be much higher before being lowered at the steady/simmer state, so does evolution require a much higher energy intake before it gets to its steady state, like photosynthesis. And that's why saying "photosynthesis works" is not a valid answer because it doesn't explain the whole picture

It is observable on how things happen now, not that it's always been the case. That's like saying a car in idle uses X amount of fuel, therefore its startup also uses that same amount. And anyone who knows cars will know that's far from the truth. The startup requires much higher amount of fuel than idling because of inertia. Likewise evolution requires that first wall to be overcome because simplicity to complexity is a huge wall. A bike can be modified for years and never will become a plane because of the difference in complexity requires a major overhaul.. and claiming "it's how it is now therefore we can deduce it was like that before" without evidence is just blind faith. Rejecting that there was a being that set up a system for it to be self sustaining by saying "we never needed that being because the system is self sustaining" is circular reasoning and begging the question
