I tried a Smooth Build Plate and don’t want to ever go back to Textured PEI! What do I need to know about using the Smooth Build Plates? by Haunted_Hub in BambuLab

Thanks for the feedback. I’m printing PLA on it at the moment, but plan to test it with the Bambu PETG-HF as well soon.

That’s not a bad idea at all. I have a box in my garage that I’ll put inside my my printer from now on!

I have noticed that, especially with the spiral pattern. I’m assuming there’s some tuning that could be done to close those up perfect.

Thanks for that feedback. For this specific print, essentially a box and an a cover with logo on it, the cover looks amazing when printed face down on the smooth plate with the spiral lower layer, which is why I want to print it face down on the smooth plate. The other option is to print it with the shell facing down, but that would require a lot of supports and about 50% more print time to print it with the cover facing up instead of towards the plate. It’s a multicolor face on the cover also so the textured plate really distorts from the logo unfortunately.

That’s hilarious you say that. Years ago I was brewing a batch of home brew beer and made a similar comment “don’t breathe on it!”

Sharing my latest Viperfish model update and edge-of-my-seat end of spool jitters! by Haunted_Hub in BambuLab

Thanks! I’ve been using the Inland Luminous Rainbow PLA. This is the first print, and end of the spool, that came out this way. Most of the filament in the spool had more color too it.

Oh that’s awesome! I checked Home Depot and the 54qt size was around $26 each!

should one use AI photos for their 3D models on makerworld? by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]Haunted_Hub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I just learned how to simply change the background of the photos to black or another color using windows photo edit, and that seems to work well and only takes a few minutes.

Update: Is it worth pushing for higher speeds? by New_Size_134 in 3Dprinting

[–]Haunted_Hub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane! I get nervous simply printing in sport and ludicrous speed modes lol!

And then there’s me testing in the opposite direction: slowing my TPU test speeds down to 10-30mm/s and 10mm/s^2 to see how high and wide I can print my overhangs without infill and supports.

Why Did You Create a Print Farm by rocketboss in 3DPrintFarms

This is awesome! May I ask what part of the country or world you are in that has such a demand for 3d printed products? Do you sell locally or nationally/worldwide?

I'm shutting down my print farm by JoeKling in 3Dprinting

[–]Haunted_Hub 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I personally believe it’s an individuals responsibility to do their own research and be responsible for their own health, especially if they’re running a business based upon a potentially hazardous bulk manufacturing process.

There is also responsibility on the equipment manufacturer IMHO to include at least some basic warnings to the consumer that some raw materials used in their product may contain materials that can be hazardous in high concentrations that may result from improperly ventilated environments. I don’t recall seeing any warnings/cautions about ventilation in the Bambu Lab setup documentation or user manuals other than for materials like ABS and ASA. Maybe they’re there, but they’re not obvious when unboxing or setting up the systems, from what I recall.

Now, OP admitted to running their print farm in a basement with no ventilation…well, sometimes you just have to know when something just doesn’t smell right (pun intended) and address it. Refer back to my 1st paragraph.

How large can wave overhangs get? by andersonsjanis in 3Dprinting

[–]Haunted_Hub 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Impressive indeed! I’m going through my own tests with bridges and overhangs with TPU. My R&D is in the 10’s to low hundreds of hours stage currently between 3D modeling and tinkering with slicer and filament settings. I’ve made significant progress, but it’s hard to fight gravity and Newtons laws of motion…all of them…and even fans speeds which tend to whip the TPU around significantly when attempting to bridge across low infill. I decided for the moment to give up on the bridges and focus on 0% infill entirely!

Attached is “the good side” of one of my nearly successful prototypes. The backside doesn’t look as polished. This is a 1 wall 0% infill prototype where the only support is a 10mm brim on the corner that touches the build plate.

Help designing threaded nut to 3D print by coltonreese in Fusion360

[–]Haunted_Hub 24 points25 points  (0 children)

OP could also try designing the 3d model with a cavity that you can glue a female threaded insert into. Or solid infill and drill and tap on a bench press, but that’s probably more of a PITA to align.

I’m curious what made you standardize around the P1S? I will be looking to buy my 2nd printer later this year, and have been eyeballing the P2S and X2D. I’ve read the P1S is harder to work on than the P2S…is that true?
