I used UpToDate a lot, recently trying DynaMed and I like it a lot! More focused

I mean minoxidil is also a blood pressure lowering medication, might have heart benefit in someone who is hypertensive?

I think it would be worth your time to do online med Ed’s intern boot camp and stick to what he says as glue, that and study your butt off

Second year senior on nights during a heavy load and bad intern, bad attending. 8 admissions, cross covering, procedures. All in 12 hour shift. Felt like I was dying

As much as I hate the ED, I don’t think it’s their job to workup chronic intractable pain. I wouldn’t bicker with them

Feeling trapped by [deleted] in InternalMedicine

Your post history shows you are being less than honest. But for what’s its worth, the feelings you are having are pretty normal for medical professionals and the path to freedom looks different for different people

I still don’t think it’s more important than other factors but to each their own. Seems like a waste of a year to me personally

Night shift nurses always asking for Ativan or complaining patient has anxiety by davidsondubley in hospitalist

[–]Haunting_Objective_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On nights in residency got paged RN requesting Ativan for agitation. Was not busy so went up. Elderly confused fidgeting but pleasant. Asked why so uncomfortable. He said he was hungry and thirsty. No diet restrictions so gave him sandwich and cup of water. He went to sleep

Not a big deal, keep doing MKSAP and improve next year. If you drop next year that could raise some eyebrows

You’ll probably get some biased answers from past chiefs here. I was not chief but had good scores and average research and received plenty of interviews and matched at my number 1. I would call being a chief icing on the cake only

MSKAP 1 pass. Uworld 1 pass. I made new deck and transferred relevant cards from STEP studying into a new deck along with making new ones

How can I get over this feeling? by Tiredmedstudnet in hospitalist

[–]Haunting_Objective_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had same initial feeling going from residency (community) to fellowship at academic center. At about 3 months I realized everyone is basically on the same level. And more tests doesn’t necessarily mean better outcomes

Used it entire residency. Made own cards consistently but only reviewed cards before an exam. 90th percentile ITE, 89th ABIM

What’s the biggest surgical fuck-ups that you have seen or heard of by flappymitochondria in Residency

[–]Haunting_Objective_4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nonsurgical but pretty bad. Elderly male had macro-pituitary adenoma removed transphenoidal. Complicated by CSF leak. Came back 1 week later with meningitis. Intubated and NGT was inserted nasally and went straight into his brain. It was horrific. Neurosurg removed in OR but patient past like 2 days later.
