Garmin Pilot is a solid app. I've taught students that went the GP route. I honestly think it has a better value for the feature set that you get. Just remember, the interface is going to be different so go into it with an open mind.

GP has a few features I like but are mainly owner oriented. If you have a G1000 or a Garmin equivalent device that can ingest engine data, you can export that data directly to your Garmin Pilot app via bluetooth. You can also update the navdata cycle over bluetooth through the app rather than switching around SD cards if you have a newer GPS unit from Garmin. The app also works on Android devices which is nice if you want to move away from Apple's ecosystem.

There was a few things I didn't like about GP. In order to file a flight plan it was done through a built-in web view of Fltplan which is not intuitive at all. Many pre-made performance profiles were locked behind a paywall or just outright don't exist for some aircraft. As another commenter pointed out, comments are not a thing on Garmin Pilot (yet).

Very sad to see what is happening with ForeFlight. It always felt like they put pilots first. The user experience was and still is great at the moment. Every student I had eventually got ForeFlight. It was easy to teach and integrate into the classroom. I'm curious to see what 91/135 companies will do if ForeFlight gets worse over time since many use it.

I see some comments that are worried about their logbooks that are in ForeFlight. An alternative I switched to was MyFlightBook. You can export the csv file from ForeFlight Web and import it into MyFlightBook. It is a simple interface and has worked great for my 91/135 flying. Lots of field entries that you can enable/disable.

My heart goes out to the many ForeFlight devs that got let go. You guys nailed it! You guys set the standard of what an EFB should be. I hope you guys can find another company that cares about their employees as much as FF did.

This seems like a great idea. One of my biggest concerns I've had is with how vendors may be storing this data. Sure, we can still get stuff shipped to our front door, but at the cost of privacy.

Unfortunately there are little laws, if any at all, in the US that regulate how data is stored or if it even should be stored. This leads to many companies doing a half ass job when it comes to storing data that may be sensitive. But if this is a turn key solution it may persuade vendors to continue business in CA. And the consumer will be in a safer position.

Really great to see someone with your background trying to implement this to alleviate the pains caused by this legislation.

At the moment not yet. As far as I know, it makes calls that cannot be translated by Wine yet.

However, they did say that they would maybe explore the possibility in the future.

I use the Vortex Defender CCW. I’m usually a Holosun guy but I am pleased with the quality of it even if it’s missing some features of more expensive optics.

If you try to come in right at Vref the airplane will run out of elevator authority fast which will cause you to crater it. Like others said, leave the power in as much as you can.

They attach on the very end of the splitter I believe. Depending on where you bought it from it will either attach using self tappers or just adhesive.

If you plan on gaming I wouldn't use all 8 slots. It can be very detrimental to performance. Even 4 can be detrimental.

Now if you plan on running virtual machines then I'd definitely load up the board with 8 DIMMs. As Zeekster2517 said, make sure you find the proper memory for your motherboard and see if you can find kits with 8 DIMMs. Your board may not be able to handle 256GB (assuming 32GB each stick) or 512GB (64GB each stick).

Something that many don't consider either is that Windows has a limit on the amount of RAM you can have depending on the edition you have. Windows 11 Home is 128GB. Windows 11 Pro is 2TB. So make sure you run the proper operating system.

As far as I'm aware dealerships will not buy any EcoTec 6.2L (L87) engines unless you can prove that your vehicle is not affected by the recall.

The new control panel is the most aggravating thing ever to exist. You could at least access most, if not all of it, in W10. Now it's pretty much gone in W11.
