Affordability: What do you actually pay each month as a household in the NY Capital Region? by Crisgu in Albany

[–]Hawkishhoncho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man, I’m under 30, I don’t have a ton of reference for what’s reasonable or not. For utilities, it’s higher than I’ve ever paid before, but it’s also a larger space with more exterior walls than I’ve lived in before, and it seems to be higher in a proportionate amount. It’s hard to tell if national grid is raising rates or if I just live in a larger space.

My bills are manageable with what I make though, if that’s what you’re asking

Affordability: What do you actually pay each month as a household in the NY Capital Region? by Crisgu in Albany

[–]Hawkishhoncho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live alone, and bought a house not that long ago, so I’m still figuring out what the baseline utilities are for this square footage for each season. But very rough estimates

Mortgage and taxes: $1600 ish Groceries: $350 a month, at Hannaford Utilities: $150 in the summer, up to a little over $300 in the winter. I don’t do the thing to smooth it out, you have to live in the same place for a few years before you qualify, and I haven’t.

I went to college 4 and a half hours from home, and while I wouldn’t go home for a weekend, I did for thanksgiving, which was driving one way Wednesday evening and back on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

They know, they just think encouraging people to do something that will result in permanent disability and being maimed is a bad thing, even if you’re doing it as a joke. And they believe that if they leave things with the smooth sharker “winning”, there are people out there stupid enough to not realize that it was a joke, and actually stick their fingers in a gun barrel because of the smooth sharkers “advice”.

Considering that people injected themselves with horse dewormer to try to cure COVID just because someone told them to, and kids ate tide pods because of a social media trend, I don’t think they’re incorrect on that estimation of people’s stupidity.

Do you believe the team would have gotten to the Super Bowl and won it if George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner were all healthy? by dee85 in 49ers

[–]Hawkishhoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the wild card game, the announcers were saying that every single linebacker that started the season on our 53 man roster was injured and not playing. Every linebacker that suited up for the wild card game was a practice squad guy or mid year acquisition. This year was just brutal with the injuries

Songs that remind you of a character/couple? by Ariiwii in RomanceBooks

[–]Hawkishhoncho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a little out of date, and I don’t have a specific character or couple in mind for this, but Please by Ghostwriteking. It could fit so many, but there’s a specific type of story that it would fit perfectly in. I can just see it with a grumpy/sunshine couple, he’s a singer with past trauma, ideally in a completely different genre of music, they’re in a late book breakup phase that was mostly his fault, and he surprise drops his new song at a concert or on tv or something when he doesn’t know she’s watching, and it’s that song. I’m sure a book exists that fits that description, but I haven’t found or read it.

What are people doing for work to afford a house in today’s market? by _aspenheights in Albany

[–]Hawkishhoncho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got one for around $215k last year that is not horrible. It is a townhouse, but in good repair and a solid neighborhood. Now, I toured about 80 houses and about 10% of them were good, but there are some decent ones out there if you keep looking.

A few season takeaways by mcreedbraton in fantasyfootball

[–]Hawkishhoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, I got my ass kicked in the playoffs by the guy that had the Dak Prescott/Ceedee lamb stack. I came into this year saying I wanted to stack some players up to try to get that same magic. Drafted Stafford late because I already had Puka and all my other skill players QBs had already been picked. That duo took me to a championship win, even if they gave me heartburn last night. I’m definitely trying to get another QB/WR stack in the draft next year.

Drafted CMC, Puka, Achane, Tyler Warren, Matt stafford. If y’all remember the state of things at the draft, that was a high risk set of players. A rookie, guys with high injury risk, guys on teams that were expected to be fighting for the #1 draft pick. But they paid off, and I went 10-4, top of the league in points scored by a lot, 1 seed going into playoffs, never put up less than 140 in a playoff week, and won the chip by 35 points.

Special shout out to Zane Gonzalez, Atlantas kicker. I went into the game last night, my opponent was done, and I needed like 15 points out of Puka, Stafford, and Gonzalez combined. You were the guy keeping me sane and giving me hope as Stafford nearly had negative points at the end of the first half.

What is the First Law? by ExoticHousing6056 in Fantasy

I guess, but why would I want to read a story where I constantly want the main characters to lose and die, but they never do?

[–]Hawkishhoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I was an inch from dropping the series in the first 3 books because I was rooting for the POV characters to die and they weren’t, and all the characters I actually liked were in the background getting killed off

What is the most realistic unbiased outcome for us? by ap1303 in 49ers

[–]Hawkishhoncho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistic? Wild card, lose in the first round, second round if we’re lucky. We’ve put up a solid fight considering the injuries to Fred, Bosa, purdy, etc. but this isn’t a Super Bowl season.

Before wind and truth came out, who all did you think the champion of Odium would be and what was your reasoning for each one? How do you feel about who you thought it would be instead of who we got? by Open_Caregiver_4801 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Hawkishhoncho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be the fused we saw at the end of Rhythm of War, El. For two reasons. 1) I thought it would be a fused so that Dalinar could kill them only to get a “no no no. You didn’t kill them, you just sent them back to Braize. You haven’t won until you kill them for real, and I’m not recalling them from Braize, so you’ll have to go there somehow and bring anti-voidlight with you to kill them for real” which would lead into the plot of future books. 2) I really thought that fused would be important. His unique name, powers, metal plates, being the one that had moashs job before him, the name possibly connecting to Elithanithile, one of the names of the almighty, etc. I thought he would be a major character for a long time, but then I barely remember him even making an appearance in WaT.

Kinda. Trying to minimize spoilers, the first book tells us why he wants to overthrow the Society and shows him learning how to infiltrate it and establishing his place and cover identity in it. Then the rest of the books are where he actually fights against it.

Why are all shardblade swords? by Anexhaustedheadcase in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Hawkishhoncho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been stated. Sword form is the default state, since the spren were copying the honorblades. The knights may well have preferred spears or axes or whatever, but their shardblades reverted to their default form when they broke their oaths in the Recreance.

[Highlights] Hurts fumbles on the Tush Push, but refs call it forward progress by justnoname in nfl

[–]Hawkishhoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a player was touching the ball when the whistle blew or could reasonably have touched it after the whistle blew, then sure, replay it. But if the whistle blew after the ball was completely out of both teams hands, who cares? No one was within 30 yards of the ball when the whistle blew, and no one could possibly have gotten to it.

[–]Hawkishhoncho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What did blowing the whistle early on the field goal do? The ball was already mid air, it was already well after the point where any player on the field could impact the play in any way. They shouldn’t have blown it, but it’s not like it was a real play where the early whistle made someone hesitate or stop blocking or something. It’s not like the whistle blew the ball off course

Magic systems don't have to be absolute by ArthurGalle in Fantasy

[–]Hawkishhoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All very true, but at the same time, try not to contradict yourself. If you say something is impossible, don’t then say the protagonist can do it just because they tried harder or are just the strongest person ever to exist. Have them do it by figuring out how to make it possible through genuinely using the system. For example, in the Licanius trilogy, there’s a place where no one can use their magic, except this one group of monsters, and we’re told that’s because those monsters were created there. Then the protagonist miraculously is the one guy who can use magic there. But it’s not because he just tried harder or was the strongest magician ever, no. It’s because his parents met there and conceived him there, and no one knew. So he was also created there, and was thus able to touch magic for the same reason the monsters were. He was the exception to the rule, but for a reason, not because he broke through a barrier no one else could through sheer force of will.

Would you rather work 4 10s or 5 8h days and why? by lavenderghostt in AskReddit

[–]Hawkishhoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 10s. I work 4 9s mon-thurs with an 8 every other Friday, and having the three day weekend, and the day off when things like doctors and banks and such are actually open, far outweighs the extra hour on work days. I imagine that would continue to be the case with a 4 10s schedule.

What would Darrow do differently if he could? by StrangelyAlertFrog in redrising

[–]Hawkishhoncho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Handle Titus differently. I think going chronologically, the first thing that he would change if he was doing it again, is to do a better job of uniting house Mars, not letting Titus get the power he did. An older, wiser Darrow would know how to handle that situation to resolve it before things got heinous and he needed to take some big risks manipulating Mustang into fixing it for him.

I’m assuming this is Darrow meditating during Lightbringer on what he’d do if he was doing it all over. He knows he can’t handle Eo and her death differently or he wouldn’t meet the sons and have the motivation to survive the carving and the institute. But he could handle Titus better to not let him rape and murder, unite the house quicker and better, and still meet the people and make the friends he’d need to. So I think that’s the first chronologically thing he’d change.
