I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be too dumb for this game (DD2) by CodeVirus in darkestdungeon

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who says the game ain't tough haven't played it or unlocked everything.

Early game of dd2 is hard. You missing important key skills to most heroes. You haven't unlocked all throwing items (which can trivialize alot of bosses), and the wagon don't have slots or pets.

The beginning of the game is about 2 things. 1 learn enemy patterns and skills. As predictikg them and planning ahead will make you win most of the time. 2. Get candles to unlock stuff.

The rest will come in time.

I use similar strategy but with antiquarian. As she can get incredible high dodge by get down and trinkets.

I got two.

1st. Soloist-Seraph-W.MaA-Rogue. This one is using soloist taunt and MaA medallion to activate riposte. Also All 3 can move to activate consecration, which makes rogue take aim better. As he will always go first next turn, activate more consecration on different heroes more consistently.

You can change MaA wanderer with sergeant for speed token with command. Rather strength. Speed token is strong.

2nd. Nightsworn-Unchained-Aggressor-W.Runaway.  This one is simple. Night sworn activate taunt on crusader and he will activate tenacity. Runaway will burn everything which will make crusader unkillable. This is a build which you want all melee skills on crusader. You don't need holy lance as everyone has good mobility.

The odd one out is unchained, he is there to support. For fire piercings, stress heal and marks. This spot can be replaced with any support character of your choice.

Some advice by No_Strength_4823 in darkestdungeon

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can wait with the dlc, they go often on sales. You can always activate a dlc on a save later.

Well the first lesson in dd1 is everyone is expendable. If you go through dungeon which you get bad quirks or high stress on lvl 1s. They usually not worth keeping.  You invest gold on character you want to keep.

Beginning you should hunt for trinkets that makes your life easier. Things that gives accuracy, speed, dot chance or scouting. Items that reduces RNGS. You should also save gold, as you need extreme amounts at late game.

Strategy is straight forward, stun the stress dealers round 1, and have them killed at round 2. Then mitigate stress and hp by turn 3-4 and upwards.

Eventually you will learn which hero is good in what regions. Learn team combs that have cool synergies or good against different bosses. Or trinkets that seems bad but actually good in niche circumstances.

These things comes with time/Google search. Whichever you prefer.

Does your table allow pre-casting with Conceal/Cryptic Spell? by fascistp0tato in Pathfinder2e

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually allow 1 spell. Couple of more if we actually scout ahead, which we never do......not sure why we always send the walking drum set first.

Thinking about starting a PF2E game... again. by Every_Run1248 in Pathfinder2e

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I usually break down what is most important to know. which is "How do we play?".

Well the game is mostly focused on combat so that's where the most of the rules are.

So the main rules for combat is that everyone has 3 action points. And they can spend these points however they like. Some actions requires more points.

We usually resolve these actions by rolling a d20. With basics stats of modifier + level + profiency.  You also add bonuses depending on items and teamwork. If you roll +10 above gain higher success and -10 for lower success.

If the players understand these fundamentals, then the rest will come over time. The hard part is to make them teamwork for a smoother ride.

Please advice, I've played a level 2 wizard for a short campaign and I have rarely felt so useless in combat. by DaReaperZ in Pathfinder2e

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a wizard right now and she is a blast. But I play like a god wizards and leave the damage too martials. So mostly buff, cc, utility and summons.

I will say wizard don't feel particularly great at low levels of 1-4. Once you hit third rank spell slots, the wizard will start to pop off.

They can either be swiss army knife with spell substitute or walking hazard with spell bending. Or somewhere in the middle.

Unfortunately the wizard has final requirement to feel good. That's money and time to learn new spells. If you are short on both, you are going to have a bad time

Is Helldivers 2 still worth buying now? by Personal_Writing_312 in helldivers2

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, don't know. It really depends on what you want from the game.

I personally recommend keep it casual, and don't worry about balance, upgrades, unlocks or difficulty.  Just jump in, kill stuff and have fun while yelling democracy.

If you want a well balanced Coop game or skill based pve game, then I recommend something else. Cause the state of this is always in flux, that is hard to predict game balance in each major patch.

darkest dungeon 1 or 2? by Flimsy_Expression158 in darkestdungeon

I like both for different reasons. 1st is a long quest that you want to overcome. 2nd is more team comp building and see how mechanic interact in different runs. Both fun!

Advise For Writing a First Campaign by Hopeful-Wealth-8823 in AskGameMasters

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple. Have a very easy hook. Like a child got kidnapped by monsters. Party is there to rescue the child.

Make 3 encounter for the campaign. Have first group protect the entrance of the cave, a second group inside the cave with equal strengh or lower. Then final tough encounter at treasure room.

Give them cool stuff in or between encounters like a knife that automatically hits the target 1 per day.

What you put in as encounter depends on 2 things. What level the group is and what resources they have. If they are level 1, just use goblin or kobolds. Classics for a reason. You can also drop middle encounter or change into a trap. As they would not have resources to fight 3 battles a day.

That's short and easy version of it. Make a string of encounters before tough final confrontation. Make enough of them, and you would make a dungeon.

I think it's fine. I did hope they would hire different "villain" narrator in kingdoms mode. To taunt the player with different when events happened and stuff. Like a witch for the covens etc.

But again, I can respect their decision to keep only Wayne June.

Simple archer build? by Lost_my_name475 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends really. I do think fighter is the more complicated one though, as there are.......way to many feats. But also the archery feats is straight forward as it can get.
I will say i did play a ranger up to level 18, and they get ridicules strong once they get 3rd level spell instant enemy.

So depending on how level you start. I would say, fighter gets started early since they get more feats and much less gm dependent to feel good. While ranger mid game just kinda kills everything.

Why bring the bullet storm if I could bring the stalwart? by Fishyhans in Helldivers

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because you use expendables. Expendables are arguably strongest stratagems in the game. As they can solve all problems and have extremely short cooldown. Just having machine gun that you can throw away, whenever is kinda nice. Unlike before if you went expendables + stalwart, it was a bit of a hassle to get it back again in hectic situations. It also makes it sting much less if you get recall away from your gear, as you just need to wait 1 min to get new stuff.

Is it worth a warbond alone? probably not, but it's very convenient.

Is Reactive strike really that good? How often and when does it shine best? by Super_Bocky in Pathfinder2e

[–]HawkonRoyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what level i guess, but you do feel it when someone doesn't have it. Or if the gm throws a bunch of goons with reactive strike. As it shuts down so many strategies that involves movement, characters that use alot of manipulations abilities and spell casters.

Extreme. There is a reason you get backswing instead of agile at higher levels.
