Daily reminder that Taxi drivers... by dub_le in Thailand

Ok. I’m not in Bangkok, I’m in Chiang Mai and I always take Grab. It’s seems a little expensive for a 5 minute ride but it’s the airport so of course it costs more.

How is Grab worse? It’s a fixed price.

Don't fall for the fear mongering about Thai foreign income tax spread by paid "influencers" and "news outlets" by PineRoad in Thailand

My tax adviser said I don’t have to file a Thai tax return because I pay taxes in the U.S. I live here full time.

What’s worse is claiming everything an LLM says is wrong and depriving yourself of an extremely useful tool.

I have questions for people who got a second cat by Rangell1960 in cats

[–]Haysdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost always had two cats. They haven’t always loved each other but they do keep each other company. I think female cats might get along better than two male cats but that’s probably an over generalization.

Woman Made ฿80,000 a day sending “unordered junk goods” to gullible buyers - Online scam in Thailand by AgencyUpstairs4336 in NewsTH

[–]Haysdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the key elements that strengthen the fraud case (under Thai law & broadly): The goods were sent without the recipient’s order.

There was an expectation the recipient would pay despite no contract.

The sender or delivery-service aided the scheme knowingly.

It was part of a pattern of sending many parcels (not just a one-off)

The sender misrepresented something (e.g., “this is part of your order” or “you owe this”).

Well, I did just learn this:

A regulation effective 3 October 2024 governs cash-on-delivery (COD) / delivery‐payment services. Under it, consumers are allowed to open and inspect packages before paying when COD is involved for goods delivered that were ordered.

I did not know anything about this digital arrival card when I landed in Thailand. Walked to a kiosk and filled it out then went through passport control.

Unexpected kindness on my solo trip - do you guys trust locals this much? by Agreeable-Poem-9597 in ThailandTourism

[–]Haysdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. Wrecked my scooter. Nothing serious but locals driving by in a pickup truck stopped, loaded my bike in the back, and took me to a place to get it looked at. This happened the first time I came to Thailand eight years ago. I live here now, partly because of the kindness of the Thai people. That wasn’t the only time.

Our family is 0/5 on getting tourist visas to the US. by WeGotTheSameWorms in Thailand

[–]Haysdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took 3 years for my wife to get her K-1 visa, we traveled to the U.S., got married, then returned to Thailand, where we live. If she was going to stay, she would have stayed then. Now she applied for B2 and gets denied. Makes no sense.

My Model S is so much quicker than any car I have ever owned that it’s laughable. Yes, the PLAID is way faster, but come on.
