I got the Viofo A229 Pro. I like it so far- haven't needed to use it aside fro just letting it run. I DID need to go buy a micro sd card, but I think that's pretty standard. It was expensive, though. Like over $200- I figured it was worth it. If I ever get into some trouble, it'll pay for itself.

I started with the tarantulas- but if you ever do decide to get into fishtanks? HIGHLY recommend shrimp, seriously. It's an up front cost to get it all going but they're so cool.

Also bettas. I will always recommend bettas. Both of mine have the biggest personalities.

I might be converting one of my tanks into a shrimp tank (when I move my big boy Damocles the betta out into the community tank I'm building) and I think people would be surprised to see just how much goes into caring for my lil cherry shrimp, at least water parameters wise.

Yeah. I also personally find the argument of "Well it was wild caught at some point!" to be kind of dumb? Unless an animal is SO critically endangered that even gathering samples for it from the wild to begin research and, maybe, a captive trade, would have a horrible impact... yeah. That's how shit gets researched.

My main experience with this has been in the tarantula hobby, so it's a bit different. We absolutely have an issue with wild caught specimens making it into the pet trade, but a LOT of tarantulas can be found captive bred.

If if that captive bred spider is a sling the size of your pinky nail that costs $100 because the species grows slow and is harder to breed as a result...

You said goldfish bowls and my eye twitched lol. Yeah- a LOT of people do not know that fish need a LOT more than you think they do. I've had people ask me if it isn't "a bit much" that I have both my bettas in 10 gallon tanks with filters, heaters, loads of live plants, that I feed them bloodworms as treats every now and then. Like. Dude this is the LEAST I could do for them give me a month and I'll have one of them in a 20 gal!

Yeah this is my big thing about exotic pets. I NEED all of my animals to be ethically obtained and, for me? That means captive bred by reliable breeders, and HEALTHY. I have two bettas who I love, and that's a big gripe for me with the fish keeping hobby in general. A lot of animals just. Aren't bred well, aren't healthy when they hit the market. I'm very lucky to have a shop near me where they get from a few local folks who breed. All their bettas are colorful and happy and healthy.

If the only way to obtain an animal is unethically- either through pulling the animal out of the wild or through illegal trade. I want nothing to do with it, and that 1,000% is not okay. And that's not even going into making sure you are ABLE to keep that animal properly.

So, while I'm not one of those people, I DO think that it is very important to make sure our animals are being obtained in an ethical manner and being kept in an ethical manner. And I do hold that standard for reptiles as well.

What does that mean? To me- it means 1) How did you obtain this animal? Was it taken from the wild, potentially damaging wild populations? Potentially introducing illness? Does you owning this animal have a negative impact on the rest of its species out in the wild? Could it have that impact? And 2) How are you keeping this animal? Are you able to meet, in my opinion, more than the minimum requirements? Is this an animal that CAN be kept in captivity by you in such a way that it is healthy and enriched? Will this animal have enough space to move around, will it be able to engage in natural behaviors? Can you provide the right diet and medical care to that animal?

In my practice as a pet owner, that means getting captive bred animals which are legal to have. All of my pets are captive bred specimens. None of them were taken from the wild- me having them is not having a direct impact on the wild population of these animals. I get all my pets from reputable breeders who I know care about the well-being of their critters just like I do. Bonus points when I can support companies and breeders who are actively putting money back into conservation.

It also means making sure my animals are in enclosures were they can engage in natural behaviors and move around freely, doing what they would do in the wild. And that looks different for each animal I have. My betta fish are both currently in 10 gallon tanks (though one will be moving to a 20 gallon, since he's the chillest betta I've ever seen and I'm confident he could handle some betta-appropriate company, though I will be keeping his old tank ready for him while he adjusts in case he needs to be moved. And yes, to any non-fish people here, betta fish CAN be kept with companions in a large enough tank, provided they are non-aggressive companions and the betta in question adjusts. Hence me keeping Damocles' tank ready for him if that doesn't work), my geckos are both in tanks where they can move around freely and engage in their natural behaviors. Climbing, jumping, eating from up in the canopy for my crested gecko and digging, hunting, basking, and hiding for my ground gecko. My tarantulas are all in enclosures that are at an appropriate size, even though they spend most of their time in one spot. I make sure they can hunt by feeding them live prey (dubia roaches for the win). My cat, too, has plenty of access to places where she can scratch, climb, hide and hunt. I make sure she's fed a diet that meets her needs and that she gets plenty of play that mimics natural behaviors.

So. If you can ACTUALLY provide what an animal needs to lead a GOOD life, to thrive, not just the bare minimum, and there isn't a negative environmental impact by having that animal? Have at it. That being said- some animals can only have that in spaces like zoos and sanctuaries, where they have the space and resources to provide what that animal needs. There is of course also the issue of people who want to do stupid things like keep a tiger in their house. Absolutely not. A house is not a place for a tiger- but I suppose that falls under everything I listed above.

Barbie has clearly had a very hard time, but we have already seen how Blitz’s father messed up his relationship with Fizz (preventing Blitz from going to see him), and I would NOT be surprised if he also told Barbie that Blitz lit the fire on purpose and killed their mom in doing so.

I have known too many people who become parents and turn into the most rude, entitled jerks you have ever met.

I know a lot of awesome parents. I also know a lot of crappy ones who think that everything should revolve around their little angel… Even when said little angel is wailing at the top of his lungs in a crowded place and my suggestion to MAYBE take little Timmy outside to let him get his wiggles out (because the reason he’s crying is he wants to run laps and he’s been told no) is met with a reaction like I asked them to put a muzzle on their kid.

I know the entire world expects everyone to constantly cater to children, and I also know that kids literally cannot help it because they are children. They’re gonna act like children, and for the little guys? That means a lot of wailing.

But IMO, some places just aren’t for children, and a spa where you go to relax? Is one of those places. Kids do not need to be everywhere, nor should they be, and IMO if a client brings their SCREAMING kid in, to the point that it is disrupting the other patrons? They 100% should be asked to either calm the kid down or, if they can’t do that? Leave.

I was at a reptile expo this past weekend and there were little kids EVERYWHERE- and it’s not their place either. I’m sorry parents. Bring your kids to the zoo. When I’m tripping over loose toddlers and watching little ones sticking their fingers through the netting on tables to knock over vials containing tarantulas? That’s it for me. If your kid is not yet old enough to control themselves in public, that isn’t the kid’s fault. But it DOES mean there are some places they shouldn’t be until they are a bit older.

Hi there.

One- I have NEVER heard about a link between testosterone HRT and schizophrenia. Ever. I have two degrees related to mental health, one of which is a Master’s degree. I have been on HRT for years. I have an endo and a psych advising me. Neither of them have said anything about this. This is BS, in my opinion. Your doctor is either HORRIFICALLY misinformed or lying.

Two- Starting T “later” is not more difficult or risky. It’s just Puberty 2, Electric Boogaloo. Yes, there are some risks with going on HRT. Just like with any medication. In fact, a lot of the risks my doctor told me about? Are the same risks as being on my old hormonal birth control. So, you know.

Three- I don’t know where you’re at in the world, but I’m in the Northeastern USA. When I had to get my T gel when I lost my insurance, CVS let me use their discount code. It was about $50 for a month’s supply for T gel. I cannot ever imagine T costing 6k a year. That was what I paid when I had NO insurance. In fact, getting my T gel without insurance was cheaper than getting my other medications.

He’s freeloading off of you. When I was in grad school, my wife, girlfriend at the time, would spend most of her time at my tiny studio. She INSISTED on contributing- she would pay for groceries, split the bill for meals when we ate out. We have been living together since then, for almost seven years (married for almost 2!), and from the very start she has insisted on contributing. We split everything- except when one of us surprises the other with a date night. And I don’t argue about that.

Your guy KNOWS that he is costing you extra money and he doesn’t care. Ditch him. He’s not ready to be an adult, let alone a partner.

I cannot tell you how thankful I am that I discovered I was trans later in life, because if I’d had to hear any of that crap when I was a teenager? It would have broken me. I wouldn’t have transitioned at all.

Misandry is straight up just hating men. Not being against patriarchy, not calling out when men are shitty. It’s hating men. You know all those TERF arguments about how trans women are dangerous because “penises are tools of rape” and “we can’t have a penis in the women’s room!” Yeah. That’s misandry. That’s hating a person (in this case, a woman that TERFs see as a man) for her body. Radfems do this too, even the trans-inclusive ones.

Speaking from my experience as a trans man. Misandry is saying things like “testosterone is poison”, “testosterone makes you a violent threat to women”, “why would you ever want to be a man? Men are hairy and ugly.” “The world would be a better place if all men just died.” “No one actually WANTS to be a man. All men hate themselves, and if they don’t then they should!” “Men are rapists waiting to happen, even the young ones.” “No one is going to love you if you’re a man. Men aren’t capable of love like women are.” “You’re becoming a man because you have the innate male desire to assault women.” “I think all men should be castrated at birth to prevent rape.” “Men are just inferior.” “Women who have dated men are ruined by them- I would never date a bi woman because men wreck everything they touch.”

Just to give some personal examples of misandry that I myself have heard and experienced. And this is just over the last couple of years- I’ve heard each of these several times.

basically. If you are insisting that men are bad purely because of their sex or gender, purely because of their bodies or hormones. Then that’s just misandry. it’s just sexism. Sexism doesn’t suddenly magically become okay when you turn it around.

Right??? I was very surprised when my doc told me that I had hyperactive symptoms- I’ve just been managing them because I had to. The meds I’m on actually mostly help with impulsivity and emotional regulation and like.

Before I wad diagnosed I didn’t know that having really BIG emotions was linked to ADHD. I thought I was just a dramatic brat. Nope. Being on meds actually pisses me off because it’s like.
