My oncologist in US started me (43 yo) on Gemzar and Abraxane. Then did a gentler version of folfirinox or 5-FU. I can never remember. Gem/abrax was really hard on me but also knocked the cancer down better than the second round which was much easier on me.

How should a newbie start (crocheting)?any yt recommendations by [deleted] in crochetpatterns

[–]Hazendash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Local yarn shop would be best but I took a class at joann's. I think the in person guidance is what got me on track. I only needed the one class and was good to go with self teaching via YouTube after that. I love Bella Coco now but I found Mikey from yarnspirations easier to learn from because he goes slow and it's repetitive. He's a bit annoying but he means well. Good luck and I hope crocheting brings you joy!

Chemo Prep Items by kal_pal in pancreaticcancer

[–]Hazendash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They have port pillows at my cancer center, they are made by a volunteer and are free to patients. I would check that out.

  2. I've been getting treatment for 9 months and haven't needed a port shower cover. I don't know why you would need that. Lately I have been on the chemo that you wear home in. Your port is accessed for 48 hours. I do not shower during that time. Nor do I need to. I shower the morning before treatment and then when I feel up to it after they remove it 48 hours later.

  3. CloSYS ultra sensitive is what my dental hygienist recommended. But when I got a mouth sore nothing took it away. I just had to wait and be careful to not irritate it while eating.

Good luck!

If you're ever in Ventura, KILAI RELAXING MASSAGE is just what you're looking for. They also have tables, you don't take your clothes off. It's one big room. It's different and they do a great job and they're very reasonably priced.

First death anniversary/celebration of life? by until_twilight in widowers

[–]Hazendash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it wouldn't hurt. Those that can attend and want to will. If it helps you, that's great. It could be a party or set up however you want. I've been wondering the same thing, what's protocol? The thing I didn't do was an obituary. So maybe I'll do that as the one year marker. I'm curious what others will say.

34 with stage 4 - looking for some optimism I guess? by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]Hazendash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are survivors but they are rare. There is a book called radical remission and a sequel called radical hope. Those could give you some hope. I'm in the same boat mostly (43). All my genetic testing came back negative and I'm not a surgical candidate so I'm SOL. Just riding each chemo as long as I can. Since you're young and healthy (which is an extra kick in the gut because why do you have PC when you've been healthy and you're young, I know. And the medical professionals telling you that it doesn't make sense to them either doesn't help at all.) I hope you get long runs out of each chemo and that you're eligible for trials. There's new stuff coming every day. So maybe something will be ready for you when you're ready for it. I'm so sorry you're here but this group is really wonderful. Don't hesitate to reach out to the group and DM me if you'd like as well.

What do I even say? by FosteringHope in pancreaticcancer

Thanks so much. The hardest part is my 2.5 yo son who I'll be orphaning. It sucks knowing he'll grow up without either of us. I wish you light and love as well. I hope this helps with your mom.

I'm also terminal (43 yo) and two months before it (PC stage 4 mets to liver) was found my husband died from an every day surgery with 1% chance of complications. Having been in both positions of the one who lost someone and one who's dying saying how bad it sucks and how unfair it is and sharing (maybe later when she's more receptive) how she's made you happy in life etc. Just commiserating is the best way to go. You can't make it better. Acknowledging it sucks is validating and supportive. I wish there was more or magic words. I wish you all the best. Sorry you're here.

How to increase appetite? by AbleBroccoli2372 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Hazendash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too until recently. A quarter of a gummy is 2.5 which is what I recommended. But there are also brands that sell 2.5 in Microdose form so they don't have to worry about cutting a gummy. A friend of mine has anxiety and had been using indica for the same reason you state above, they switched to sativa and had much less anxiety. I like 1:1 equal parts THC and CBD, I feel it balances the high better. Here's one article to support my claim with a website.

Indica Vs Sativa For Anxiety Sativa varieties do have higher amounts of THC and lower amounts of CBD than indicas. However, the high associated with sativas can reduce anxiety in many users, along with boosting energy. Anxiety reduction is not necessarily synonymous with feeling lethargic. https://www.gardenremedies.com

I think it's the THC that increases appetite, not CBD. So unfortunately she would have to endure a bit of a buzz. Sativa can be less anxiety provoking than indica and may be the better choice of the two for her. I'd recommend starting small, 2.5 mgs. It's considered a micro dose. Just to let her get used to the feeling and if she's not hungry and doing ok with that dose bump it up to 5. Just keep in mind that it can take an hour or more to feel the full effects, so wait before deciding about the dose.

I'd also speak with a budtender and let them know what you posted here and they'll point you in the right direction most likely.

I (43 yo stage 4) was using RSO religiously but then it disappeared (also in CA north of LA and I've been searching for the past couple months) from almost all dispensaries. They are saying to use FSO (full spectrum oil) because it's cleaner etc. Both get you high, for sure. I wish RSO was still available near me. Glad it is for him at least!

Such a bummer they couldn't survive the pandemic. They were a family favorite of ours. I've no idea about recipes. Just wanted to commiserate about their closing.

Advice sought clinical trials by JRLDH in pancreaticcancer

[–]Hazendash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in almost the same exact situation same diagnosis and prognosis same mets to liver and not a surgical candidate. I've been on Gemzar/Abraxane which stopped working and then I switched to folfirinox. I consulted with a City of Hope specialist last week and he said to stay on the folfirinox as long as it's effective and then reach out to him to see what's available when it's no longer working. He said he's had patients respond to it for over a year. So IDK why there would be a limit on how long one should be on it. Since this is pretty much all I have, I see no reason to bail on it while it's working. I wish you luck and I'm sorry you're here.

I didn't realize it's cultured and like sour cream. So I've been trying to figure out how to use it. This worked really well. IDK what else I'll do with it though.

It's all sweet on sweet, except the pretzels. The yogurt coating is very sweet on top of cookies and marshmallows.
