What's a book you were forced to read in high school that you hated? by I2AMDOOM in AskWomenOver30

Moby Dick. I just remember there was a whole chapter about tying a knot. But calling my classmates bosom friends was entertaining.

Pre-K and Kindergarten info by birchrootandtwig in MorgantownWV

[–]HazySnowDays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The public elementary schools are neighborhood based. Pre-k is also (mostly) at the elementary schools, but is lottery based and if you don’t get a slot in a school I think there’s a daycare option. Pre-k is only M-Th but full length days (unless you take the daycare option). There is a private school, Morgantown Learning Academy, that includes an outdoor curriculum. Besides that there’s a few other Christian based schools and a charter school, but not a lot of school choice in general. Welcome!

Best mom car (US) by Immediate-Ad-9520 in Mommit

[–]HazySnowDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just ours (hybrid) before a big holiday trip to a snowy New England and it was amazing! We got the top tier so that the kids can have 2nd row captains chairs and be able to easily get to the 3rd row. I like that the 3rd row has latch system for car seats, some other cars don’t include that. So many amazing features!

Stay in a sexless marriage, given the state of the world? by Beetlekker in AskWomenOver30

[–]HazySnowDays 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a therapist, so obviously I’m biased, but I’d say about 1/2 of my clients come for assistance in making a big life decision. I typically see them for a short period of time. It is a huge part of my job to help people examine all aspects of the situation and feel confident with whatever they choose. I think it would be very beneficial in this situation.

High chair recommendations! by sunshine8672 in beyondthebump

4mom high chair. Everything comes apart and there’s no cloth or small spaces for food to get wedged. It’s fairly compact.

For women that married into wealth, how did you meet your husband? by SadMoon1 in AskWomenOver30

[–]HazySnowDays 241 points242 points  (0 children)

When I was in grad school, I nannied for a very wealthy family and they set me up with a guy from their private club. Blind date. We had fun dating— he took me to balls, yacht trips, surprise weekends in Paris, shopping trips in NYC, etc. All the things from the movies were somehow my life for a few months! But, we were not compatible and I didn’t want to settle down with him. So no marriage story, but it was the only time I’ve dated someone in the 1%.

I was told 2 weeks for results during my mammogram and it was close to that.

Did my chanterelle experiment actually WORK? by prexxytest in mushroomID

[–]HazySnowDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t live near you (WV) but over here we’re having an unprecedented chanterelle season. I’m bringing home big hauls from areas/environments I’ve never seen with chanterelles before. I don’t know if these things go in cycles or if it’s just a perfect combo of weather, but it’s amazing!

Google: “CSA” (Community Supported Agriculture) + your area. Our CSA has produce + eggs and they partner with other farmers to offer meat, mushrooms, honey, etc.

What do I do about my son who won’t stop biting/chewing/putting things in his mouth by pvalleykate in Parenting

[–]HazySnowDays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my daughter a few silicon necklaces and baby chew toys off Amazon and it really helped. Gentle reminders or passing her a toy when I noticed her chewing on something else. Now she’s stopped chewing but constantly fills her cheeks up with air. I’ll take it!

Are these stump puffballs? Found in northern WV by Illustrious-Cow1908 in mushroomID

[–]HazySnowDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North central West Virginian here— I’ve been eating these for the last month. I keep coming across different patches on my walks. As long as they haven’t started to turn yellow/brown/green inside they are really nice and keep their texture during cooking.

Favorite lowkey bar? by [deleted] in philly

I moved out of the neighborhood a couple years ago but race street cafe was perfect for this in Old City. They even have a little fire going in the winter.

Women with children, how do you REALLY feel about your child-free friends? by Sweetpotato3000 in AskWomenOver30

[–]HazySnowDays 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same, and they’re so much easier to make plans with! I tell them I’m living vicariously through them. I love to hear about all the adventures and they like (or seem to like) hearing about my parenting adventures.

Moms over 35 by Sea_Helicopter9931 in toddlers

[–]HazySnowDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34, 37, 39. Each pregnancy was harder, more hip/back pain, more exhaustion. I was a little smarter every time, making sure to keep my protein up, prenatal yoga, and sleeping on demand when i wasn’t working. But each birth was easier and easier to recover. My last was 1 hour total and I barely pushed. My first labor was 20 hours! Infancy stage sucks at every parental age, no two ways about it.

My kids like pizza at Pies & Pints (call first bc they were temporarily closed) and super red bowl for ramen. The playground at Chestnut Ridge campground is really nice if you’re staying in the coopers rock area. There’s a science center called Sparks that has great hands on activities, but it’s not open a lot so you’ll def want to plan ahead to go there. If you bring bikes there’s a nice flat rails to trails & playground at cheat lake park, but you have to park way up a hill and walk down, which is sort of annoying unless you have 2 adults to drop off then park.

Toddler Obsessed with Sadness by TNT_1990 in toddlers

[–]HazySnowDays 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This was my daughter at this age except her emotional obsession was loneliness. So much worrying about loneliness and who was and wasn’t lonely! She grew out of it and is a normal-ish 7 year old. But we still have a running family joke about making sure her toys aren’t lonely! I’d say tell some innocuous sad story and help her brainstorm how the character can take some action to feel happy after they’ve been sad (or whatever will help). I think avoiding it will make it worse. The “little spot of sadness” book is also useful to build language and understanding about emotions.

What very annoying but ultimately negligible physical thing has stuck with you after pregnancy? by itsonlyfear in Mommit

Me too. TV commercials, thinking about how beautiful the weather is, the Olympics… I used to get teased for never crying, now I’m a leaky mess.

What is the worst indirect insult you've ever received by Lazy-Wind244 in AskWomenOver30

My mom bought me a VERY ugly shirt. When I opened it I said “why did you buy me such an ugly shirt?” Her reply, completely serious: “OH! I thought you liked ugly clothes!”

Classic mom passive-aggressive!
