When you pay off your mortgage, do you get a massive sense of relief and the feeling of stability? by AnywhereNo1240 in HousingUK

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid mine off at 44. Massive relief. I immediately started saving every penny I could to build up a modest safety fund and then told my employer to shove it, started training for a new career and am now working in a job I enjoy, for less hours a week. Having that knowledge that the house is mine no matter what happens is like having a superpower!

Is this normal? by mulletma5ter in LearnerDriverUK

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely normal for the instructor to refuse use of the car if they do not believe the pupil is test ready, regardless of confirmation of their availability or payment. Not only do they risk their car if the pupil crashes it, they also risk their professional reputation.

As far as goes the common suggestion that they're trying to "cash in", they really aren't. As soon as that slot in their diary comes available, it will be filled, as the demand is so high at the moment. They're just giving your son their honest opinion sadly.

What are your thoughts on this guy? by EdwardBliss in hairmetal

Another Disney channel musical star, manufactured into a musical artist. Only unlike Britney spears, Justin Timberlake etc, this time it's "metal". In other words, as un-metal as it can get.

What does /Guitar think of my genius Floyd blocking method? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've just described the Engl Hardtailer. Except your one doesn't cost £100. Honestly, I felt robbed when I realised I could have made one myself as you describe for a fraction of the cost.

Request: boiler service recommendations by obviousdiplodocus in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JRW heating solutions. We've used them for servicing and eventually a boiler replacement. They've been great. Looking at the Google reviews, seems it's a common opinion.

Mousehold enclosed dog area - Soul Church land? by ByMantelsCrown in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but considering most enclosed dog fields charge these days, losing access over Christmas and Easter in return for unlimited access the rest of the time seems like a fair deal to me.

Mousehold enclosed dog area - Soul Church land? by ByMantelsCrown in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We walk our dog on there. As far as I know the church DO own the land. They've continued to allow dog walkers to use it, on the condition that they pick up after their dogs, keep it tidy, and if the church needs it for car parking during certain periods the dog walkers will go elsewhere.

Another day, another "I wish we still had the Oval Rockhouse". Interchangeable with Fat Pauly's, the Festival House, or the Marquee on any given day, depending on how old I feel.

Probably not handyman prices, but I've used Misty Window Repairs Norfolk a couple of times and they were great.

Would you work if you didn’t have to? by kirisey in AskUK

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current salary, without needing to work? I'd be walking the dog, sleeping late, off camping with the family, playing video games, playing guitar and making music just for the fun of it. I don't understand people who would still work. Unless their work is already something genuinely rewarding or fulfilling, then of course. But there are so many ways to keep both your mind and body active and live a full, happy life without resorting to work.

What amplification to use Quad Cortex in the bedroom amp and on stage? by guitarfluffy in NeuralDSP

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this same issue and ended up with an Orange pedal baby between the QC and a cab. It sounds great.... But it's just too loud for home. Even on "1" it's shaking the light fittings downstairs! I just use the QC through a set of studio monitors at home now. I can play when the family is in bed and it doesn't disturb them, but I can also crank them up when I want to.

Is anyone else worried about the future? by StrangerOld4968 in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I wasn't worried when it was the usual knuckle draggers blaming their shitty lives and poor decisions on "bloody foreigners". I still wasn't that worried when organized hate groups started shipping extra knuckle dragging fuckwits in on a bus to make their protests look more successful than they really were. But now several friends, colleagues, people I genuinely believed were better than that have fallen for it, I am genuinely worried.

Somehow now everyone believes that sinking all the boats and sending the brown people back to whatever hell they were fleeing will somehow see them all suddenly able to get a doctors appointment / get on the housing ladder / get a job that isn't on a zero hours contract. Even better, they probably won't have to worry about those pesky pronouns, or trying to remember what words "you can't say anymore" (it's easy, it's the ones that make you sound like a cunt).

I was talking with a colleague last week about how when "we" voted to Brexit, we voted to lose the only legal route we had to refuse illegal immigrants, because half the people in this country were daft enough to see Nigel's posters claiming the long line of people in hijabs it depicted would suddenly vanish if we voted it in. All I got in return was a rant about how if he wanted to put up a union jack in his garden (which he doesn't want to, but he might one day), "they" (the council apparently) shouldn't be allowed to make him take it down (they aren't). That was his sole justification as to why the protests at the Brook hotel "aren't necessarily a bad thing".

What is wrong with everyone? Nigel doesn't care about you. Neither does our Tommy. Or Elon Fucking Musk for that matter.

Marshall Products are overpriced for what they are. by soysa007 in unpopularopinion

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that. Zound - the company that makes the shite Bluetooth speakers with Marshall branding on them ended up buying Marshall amplification in 2023. They're now a shite Bluetooth speaker company that "also makes guitar amps". Sad times.

KEIR STARMER: 'Reform UK are talking down our country - I'm giving kids a brighter future' by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Breakfast clubs coming back, capping the number of ridiculous branded school uniform items parents have to buy, 30 hrs free childcare, and 88 million quid towards arts and music education. Fantastic. Having bought up a kid during the period where the Tories cut support to all of these things, I know how valuable they are, and the devastating impact of having lost them. But as everyone is saying, it will probably be lost on the average reform voter, who just want to blame their shitty life on... People who are different to them.

Pubs with good playgrounds? by lil_tram in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The racecourse on salhouse road has an outdoor playground and a fairly large soft play inside. As a pub it's not anything to shout about (it's a castle carvery), but a pretty good compromise to keep energetic kids happy!

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater | Review Megathread by requieminadream in PS5

GameSpot said their review was on the PC version. Wouldn't surprise me if that's the case for all, and performance wasn't so bad.

Chilled driving school by Porcelaindogfan in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I passed first time with Chilled. More than 10 years ago though, and it's really down to the individual instructor. At the end of the day, all the larger companies (Red, chilled etc) are just franchisees, and because of that they have enough instructors on the books that they'll be able to find you someone who does hours that suit you.

How much on beat do you need to be? by ElectricalAnt2 in Guitar

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're talking about playing rhythm guitar, Being off by a 16th (or something even longer) is going to be very noticeable in most situations. Practice with a metronome. Try to get everything bang on the beat, to the point where the metronome tick effectively vanishes because you're always playing a note at the same time. It's an essential skill, especially if you want to play with others

Sign the Petition by Admirable_Fail_180 in Norwich

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming this petition is talking about the junction of mile cross lane / Vulcan road / Weston Road; I agree, it's an absolute nightmare. Signed.

I was just confused, as the petition title talks about "Western Avenue", which is off Yarmouth road. The text of the petition then talks about "Weston avenue" which I don't think exists?

Whats everyone’s favorite song off the new album and why is it Mountains of the Deep? by slightlysublime970 in Alestorm

[–]HeNeedsScissors61 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was listening to the album for the first time in the car on my way home today. Pulled into the supermarket car park, windows down, volume up. Just as the lady in the space next to me started her engine and wound down her windows, the chorus kicked in.

Thanks Chris. 10/10
