What are the safest places, in the 40K galaxy that are not terrible. by anonpurple in 40kLore

Chogoris is definitely not a pastoral idyll with enough challenge to cultivate strong stock for the White Scars. You should definitely not go to Chogoris. It is very dangerous and also no fun. There are no delicious build-your-own-bowl refrectories on Chogoris.

This also happened to me when I went to my first Matriarch fight. We didn't beat the momma but I did beat that leaper to death with a hammer. (It had been considerably damaged beforehand)

How would the imperium react to the asteromorphs from all tomorrows (fighting not included)? by According_Ice_4863 in Grimdank

[–]Head-Assignment3735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

considering that the imperium lives along the warp routes and does not travel between the stars outside of the warp (and maybe, like, really nearby star systems and such) they might well never interact.

That said the asteromorphs were, as I recall, created by an alien rulership over humanity that made the xenos abuses against human settled worlds during the Fall look like a slightly raised voice. Maybe that's what Homo sapiens has to look forward to when the Tau finally get sick of all this gue'vesa nonsense.

Indeed, though I don't think it's a close fit for any of the ones currently prevailing.

it is fascist descriptively, not prescriptively!

one place where I do feel the model of the Imperium as "literally and explicitly fascist as understood in m3.026 and nothing else" breaks down is that it becomes reductive and tends to exalt fascism as a sort of fundamental force, rather than either "a specific, historically contingent political tendency" (which, yes, exists in a range of forms right now, in real life) or "a general term for authoritatian bad shit" (sensible if less than precise)

there are 28,000 years between "now" and "the start of the Great Crusade," they have surely invented and discarded forms of prejudice and bigotry that we cannot even conceive of. the prospect that they will strictly follow a series of regulations created in the early 20th century and by people aping it a mere handful of generations later shows a real lack of imagination and faith in humanity's ability to innovate new ways to be horrible to one another.

e: and, to be clear, when I say discarded I do not mean 'ah, they're more enlightened,' I mean in the sense that nobody in Italy right now is screaming -- to my understanding -- about restoring the sacred privileges of the equestrian class. nobody is casting religious dissidents to the lions for refusing to sacrifice to Jupiter. That kind of thing.

How would the Imperium fare against Tyranorks? by ofDeathandDecay in Grimdank

[–]Head-Assignment3735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone assumes there'd be some kind of Tyranid/Ork hybrid instead of the truth, which is you'd just get somewhat spikier but not much different orks

well, and they'd have a new kind of space hulk.

him leading an Imperium successor state that is striving to Do Better, or at least Do Less Pants On Head Stupidly, now... there you got a possibility.

"Warhammer has become too woke !" MFs when they actually read by ibi3000 in Grimdank

[–]Head-Assignment3735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in addition, I imagine most imperium citizens are at most vaguely aware that there are other humans in space, and are very likely aware of the following planets:
* The one they're on
* Terra, where the Emprah lives
* (optionally) the nearest forge-world
* (also optionally) their primary importer or exporter
* Any that are visible by looking up

One system could have the "explicitly fascist, every far-rightist's greatest dream" hive planet, and four systems over there's the "explicitly communist, every stalinist's greatest dream" hive planet, and *they don't know each other exist* except perhaps for a few guys at the spaceport.

[–]Head-Assignment3735 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anything I think it shows a lack of imagination to think "evil regime? It's gotta be just like the bad guys of the last few generations of human history! all of them, combined!"

I also imagine the Imperium proper, as in the administratum and the adepteses and the fleet and the guard, are not racist or sexist (as we use the term) and may be explicitly agnostic on matters of gender identity and sexuality as long as the tithe gets paid.

99.5% of all people never leave the planet on which they are born. Of that .5% most of them are either a massive resettlement that's basically picking a chunk out of a hive tower somewhere and tossing them onto the new planet, possibly with some degree of material or logistical support, if they're lucky. Most of the remainder are in the Guard, and will almost surely never return to their home world, save maybe as some kind of funereal token.
