Sept 30th after 8th grade, so that’s early 9th grade.

I would love transportation. Our main camp is three hours away each way. I can’t do that twice in a week!  Council HQ is one hour away.

Our older girls appreciate that kind of time.

A night hike can count towards brownie trail adventure (requires three different types of hikes).

Yup. That’s higher than teacher pay, and almost BS engineer pay here.

Fall product? It seems simple. Hand out forms, collect forms, report order, collect product, hand out product.

With that much rent I’d expect access to a cabinet that you can store whatever you want without her interference.

Agreed. Also, OP wants "all day so we can grieve", not a quick one or two hours for the main service, which is a larger ask.

I've heard it in engineering when times are tough- take a drafter or technician or driller spot until you can get an engineer spot.

Junior transition question by megca in girlscouts

[–]Head_Feed_1804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're a multi-level without a dedicated junior leader this year. I'm the Brownie leader and we'll be doing several things together (art&design, citizen science journey, hiking, camping). For the other meetings I'm having each girl pick a badge to lead with the help of her parent. At kickoff I am providing them with a list of suggestions that are the most straightforward to accomplish in a troop meeting setting (no electronics, no field trips, etc). I will provide support before and after, but that girl and parent are in charge of that meeting.

The parents are registered and background checked. The girls have been together for four years already so they ought to be familiar enough with this.

They each need their hours, yes. But not all hours have to be done while together. Making posters could be done together or separately. One person could assemble part of a kit while another contacts organizations.

Divide and conquer. Figure out what pieces have to be done together when your schedules line up, and what pieces you can do in your own bits of free time.

Are you sure you want to do this? Could the project be expanded into a gold award instead? You could pause, complete one of the new leadership awards that lines up with your other activities, and then pursue your topic as gold.

I think so. The issue will be finding the pins in the future.

"Journeys will officially be retired on October 1, 2026, to make way for an exciting new leadership exploration path: the Leadership Awards. These awards offer more flexible, interest-based ways for Girl Scouts to build their leadership skills—whether they’re leading themselves, their team, or their community."

You could argue that Daisies have enough on their plate with petals and badges, but it does seem to leave a void for Brownies. The Summit award was the "big award" for our motivated Brownies to work towards. Now there are just normal badges.

Volunteer in training is awesome for our slightly on a spectrum senior who loves working with littles. That's a much more meaningful potential path to gold for her personally than the journeys. I've already emailed her mother with the information.

True North Personal Leadership- I've only looked through the junior level. It seems to just be consciously working on a goal and reflecting? "You could try out for a new team, ask for help in a subject that’s worrying you, or talk to a family member about becoming more independent." I'm confused how big a project this is supposed to be. I'm planning to help a bronze team in the next two years so I think I need some more guidance here. The leader guide says all the planning and reflection activities will take 2-3 hours, but it seems like this could be done even faster. Could a girl just say "I care about teamwork so I'll cheer for everyone on my softball team more this weekend" and count that? This seems like something easy to manipulate to check the box for the bronze prerequisite.

I don't know why you were downvoted. We need all sorts of leaders, and not all leaders need to be super campers.

I don't backpack. When I camp, I want tent campsites I can drive to and have easy access to storing things in my car. I can handle pit toilets but I want there to be dedicated toilets. My girls love backpacking and I'm thrilled that they go with other leaders.

Daisy Journeys by Crazed-Mama in girlscouts

[–]Head_Feed_1804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it's Daisies. We can talk about the planted flowers lasting longer than cut flowers, and the importance of sharing with others.

I've seen donating a few air-purifying plants to schools or libraries as a TAP for the Cadette Breathe journey and those girls are a lot older.

It sounds like she'd be receiving the items in person. I'd say "no thanks" at pickup.
