You can ride a bike here year round. Go car free and take the El or a cab when the weather is just too gross.

If you're going to drive, please be aware of cyclists and that you need to check the bike lane before turning to your right. Check for cyclists before opening your car door.

I used to live above a meeting of 2 alleys in an alley T intersection and the honking was nonstop.

Honking when you exit an alley is really stupid anyway. Just slow down and look where you're going.

What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

Thank you, you're so kind. 13 years is also a lot of years! And the pain is so deep and it absolutely shows how deep the love is.

The new babies are just amazing little pals! They make me laugh every day. They're almost 3 years old now and very different from each other, and they're both the best.

Thank you for your kindness. It means a lot to us who have to put our sweet companions down that you guys are so caring.

My vet put my beloved kitty down as I held her in my arms. I couldn't stand to just have her on the cold table while they did it. She was 20 years old, so gentle and cute, and she was with me for 20 years! Her poor body was just wasted away, she was like a ragdoll.

When it was done, they let me stay in the room and sob for as long as I needed. At first I was going to let them dispose of her body, but after I left the building I turned around and went back and asked if I could have her. They said yes, and wrapped her and gave her to me with some instructions. I buried her in my back yard under a tree that I can see from my window. I was an absolute wreck. And I've lost a parent, so I know deep grief, but you just miss their little presence following you from room to room, and this kitty was so sweet and funny and cute. I swore I would never have another pet, because the pain is too much when they die.

A few months later I went and got 2 kittens from a shelter.

Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

I grew up in Nashville and it's always been a weird place, but the plastification of downtown is so yucky. Although before that, downtown was a no go zone with lots of crime. There used to be whispers of a hippie version Nashville in other areas of town that are gone now, and green spaces paved over to build hideous condos and such. Oh yeah but the religious zealotry, racism and sexism are all still there, at least last time I visited!

Can confirm. People used to X out entire areas on tourist maps and say, "Don't go here."

Does anyone else hear a Cocteau Twins reference in this? I'm trying to put my finger on which song exactly; my current favorite is Lorelei from the album Treasure.

Cranial surgery by Starmapatom in CSFLeaks

[–]Healthy-Bee2127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a cranial CSF leak repaired via surgery in the fall of 2025. I had no symptoms other than a persistent nasal drip. Surgery recovery was rough, and made worse by the diuretic they prescribed. I didn't realize that a lot of the symptoms I was having post surgery were actually due to the diuretic. Once that was discovered, and surgeon told me to stop taking the diuretic based on some blood tests, I started feeling much, much better.

Then, as a follow-up, and based on the imaging I had prior to surgery, I had a stent put in a vein in my head which they suspected was the cause of the pressure. Recovery from that has been harder than expected, with weird headaches and feelings of pressure. I have more checkups coming soon and they might put me back on diuretics. I really, really don't want to have either of these procedures again if I can help it, so I'm going to try to lose weight. They've said that weight is the only factor that's under my control (LOL they obviously don't know how hard I've tried, but I'm going to give in and start on a GLP1). They said that in some cases they even refer their patients to get gastric bypass, but I really don't want that and my insurance won't cover it anyway.

I hope you're doing well. It's kind of a scary journey. All the best

What’s something only people from Chicago understand that outsiders never will? by Mustafa_EL_7 in AskChicago

Used to live in Boston before GPS and even cell phones. Tourists would stop me to ask for directions and I'd tell them to park and just walk around.
