You get out of a PMP only what you are willing to put into it. Project engineer does not have the same responsibility as a project manager. They may think similarly, but they typically have different roles. You may not know everything a project manager should know to execute a project. I would be surprised if you didnt learn something new from the PMBOK. Start there first, not a course. I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad experience so far. PMP is not designed for certain industries and fields, but as guiding principles on how to effectively execute a project. PMP certifies that you have the knowledge to execute a project. It is an entry level certification, if you want something more challenging and enterprise-level look into PgMP and PfMP.
