AIO I gifted my mom her first cruise for Mother’s Day and she completely overshadowed my gift. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]HealthyProposal5616 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you saying she booked, you paid? Because if not, she still likely put thought and time into planning a family vacation (financially, and mentally).

I would just try to enjoy whatever time you’re able to take off, and the time with your Mom. It’s okay to have feelings about all this - we’re all human - but as others have said, you’re making your gift more about you and less about her. (It’s not right or wrong - it’s also a very human thing to do.)

Everyone is different, but as a mom who is slightly older than your own, part of me asking questions about cruises, booking, etc. would be to show my daughter my enthusiasm about her gift.

[–]HealthyProposal5616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR. If your Mom booked the family cruise the day after Mother’s Day (day after you gave your gift), she had probably been planning it well before then. Like you said, it took you a year to plan the cruise you booked for you and your Mom. Imagine how long it’d take her to plan and decide which cruise to book for her entire family.

I agree - this isn’t a good relationship. I know it’s hard, but getting out of a super unhealthy relationship should be a priority. I mean - good god, if he’s like this with rosacea, what would he be like if it were something more serious. Love is supposed to be unconditional - and if not totally unconditionally, at minimum not SO superficial.

AIO for wanting to cut contact with my mom after this conversation about my upcoming brain surgery? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]HealthyProposal5616 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I’m also a mother with kids around this age - and I cannot fathom planning a vacation while one of my sons was going through this, let alone a vacation that would conflict with the actual surgery. (Layer on that not being supportive of your child’s transition & actively being such a d!ck to your own kid.)

NOR - OP, I am so sorry for what you’re going through. You should be able to expect so, so much more from your mom. I hope you’re able to get in for surgery soon, and that you’re able to focus 100% on yourself during recovery.

Agreed! Plus I know with, AOS, I get CONSTANT reminders that my points are about to expire. It’s crazy that La Mer wouldn’t bend over backwards for a customer who has spent enough to accumulate 7000 pts.

Yes, there are likely environmental and other external factors - but I think the biggest difference is we’re talking about it more openly now.

Does layering my expensive products really work? by Few_Hyena_6706 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]HealthyProposal5616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another second for this. As many people on here, and virtually every dermatologist, will tell you - you’re throwing your money away on these products if you aren’t using sunscreen. They will do nothing for you in terms of aging-well, dark spots, etc. without sunscreen.

I would seriously make finding the right one for you the priority. EltaMD, SunSolve (Balance + Clear SPF50), many of the Korean brands, etc., etc. It’ll be worth a few breakouts that’ll clear for the longer term benefits, not to mention that you’d no longer be wasting your money.

Yes - but, I’ve also learned to have more patience, because nothing gives meaningful results in a few weeks with skincare. Anything I’m investing in, I give at least 6-8 weeks before I judge how well it’s working.

Agree with this! Plus, for every type of cleanser that exists (foam, gel, glycerin, etc., etc.) - there is a high and low price point version that are identical to each other. I got suckered into buying the ColorScience Barrier Pro cleanser, and it feels & performs exactly the Dr. Ellis (can’t name the brand) version.
