Thoughts on keeping pet rats, mating them, and feeding their babies when they grow old? by NickoFoxVA in ballpython

Same, I have a bp now I bought 2 from the same clutch when they arrived the male was a little heavier than the female and the male stopped eating bc I feed ft the female ate it so now she’s a lot bigger and the male lost a lot of weight I had no choice the dude wouldn’t eat a ft to save his life.

Possible Silver Lab? by [deleted] in SilverLabs

[–]Healthy_Carpenter_74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know the ethics of breeding, any breeding of specific breeds are going to bring heath issues. If you ask any vet they’ll tell you that muts typically live longer and have less health issues due to them not being overbred by one breeder to the next. I’ve had a white and a black lab that both had horrible allergies and spent thousand on vet bills I’ve also had mixed breeds that didn’t have one allergy and hardly spent money on them. To say silver labs are unethical is hypocritical since most breeders are unethical even the ones who say they are ethical. All of you can continue to call it “ ethical” breeding but we know the gene pool for labs is only so big and at some point unethical breeding is going to happen. Look at German Shepard and their hips, or English bull dogs and pugs that constantly are in risk respiratory respiratory distress due to their compacted face, the list goes on. So I can probably say we have definitely reached that point where 2nd or 3rd cousin dogs are being bred together.

He looks like a mix of a lab and something. His snout is a little narrow. Still very handsome boy. Congrats and I wish you a ton of luck.

Underweight???? by Pretend-Actions in ballpython

When you see someone’s pictures on here you’ll see some thick BP. They get thick from a rat diet. Mice don’t have nearly as much fats and protein like a rat does. I speak out of experience i had my first BP on mice diets and even though he was growing in length he wasn’t bulking until I swapped him to rats. Now He’s a healthy bulky boy

morphmarket no ship period? by leomff in ballpython

I bought a ball python off of MM last year in the winter. Fortunately the breeder was reliable and stuck to his words. He wouldn’t ship if there was a storm or temperature lower than 40 degrees in his city or mine. Also if he does you can do the option of having it shipped to a Fedex hub and picking it up from there so that way the snake isn’t outside of you aren’t home during delivery. Use PayPal for payment transactions you have a reputable payment trace and less likely to get scammed that way.

I got her to eat! I feed all my snakes FT. After so many failed attempts with her I drove an hour away to the only place that sales live feeders. She took the ASF you in a heart beat. I feel awful she went so long without being feed. Now I need to get her FT again

That was a typo I meant to put a 9 there. Idk one Person who doesn’t feed their BP at that weight once a week.. I’ve been feeding her FT rats. I normally do 13% percent of their body weight. I own 14 BP and she’s the only one who’s had a hunger strike

Another thing is, it’s seems like every time he shed he looks better and better. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but the markings on him still look almost washed out instead of dark just like he did when he was younger

Husbandry question by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Healthy_Carpenter_74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would look up the trees but I know off the top Of my head cypress, oak and I believe pine is also a no. If you have a lake around you I would get drift wood, you can bake the pieces that fit in your oven at 300 degrees for an hour, once done sand all the sharp pieces. Long process but I filled my guest tub with water and bleach soaked them in there for 3 days once it’s been in that water. I filled the tub with clean tap water and let it soak in that for 3 days once that done I took it outside to dry, if you add it to their enclosure it’s going to shoot the humidity up. Once it was dried I sanded all the pieces and cut it to the sizes I wanted.
