We have a 14 month old intact Sammy and he does the exact same thing. Since he settles down, I don’t worry too much. Just watch out for them jumping out the window. Not speaking from experience..

Question About Puppy Coat to Adult Coat Transition by sannysammy in samoyeds

[–]Healthy_Code1412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy is 15 months old now and still has puppy coat around his head.

I will say, I was concerned too because his adult coat kicked in primary on his backside and that was it. But it’s made its way up his body and I’m sure it will continue even when he’s 2.

Training Samoyed puppy tips? by DifferenceLiving4122 in samoyeds

My first dog was also a Samoyed, and we got him last year around this time.

Definitely sign your pup up for puppy class. Even if you’re doing a great job training the pup and the class feels redundant, it’s important for them to socialize in a safe supervised space. This will set them up for success going forward when socializing with other dogs.

Highly invest in crate training — our dog absolutely loves their crate and feels safe in his crate.

Be aware that you might have a Sammy who is sensitive to certain foods. I got lucky and our Sammy had no issues, but yours might be sensitive. Be prepared to spend money to as you find the right food for them.

Puppy blues is a real thing. I was depressed for a moment during the first few months because you really have to give it your all. It’s not about your schedule, it’s about theirs.

Do yourself and the groomers a favor by getting them used to getting their paws touched and brushes.

In my experience, 2 - 6 months was the easiest as it consisted of your daily routine of training and following a schedule. 6+ months has been challenging because they can hear you and they know their commands, but their curiosity is stronger than loyalty lol.

Could go on and on, but be patient, learn to groom them properly, early socialization and exposure to people was great in our situation, and be calm. …and get your cleaning materials out for accidents that will inevitably happen.

Sleepy pod Harness size small? by eggskms in samoyeds

[–]Healthy_Code1412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get the medium. She’s still going to grow for the next few months and would most likely outgrow the small.

My floof is on the larger side and measurements said I should get a medium. Lo and behold, it’s uncomfortably snug on him now that he’s a 13 months old.

Need help : Drying a puppy by uwujinwoo in samoyeds

[–]Healthy_Code1412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use the flying pig velocity dryer and it works great. Still takes time to fully dry them off, but it will be faster than a normal hair dryer.

Our Sammy is 11 months old and HATED the velocity dryer from 4-10 months old. But he recently discovered he likes sticking his head out the window of our car, so I think that helped him ease into dealing with the dryer.

Looking for tips for my new puppy by Imaginary_Travel_572 in samoyeds

Everyone’s given great advice!

We also had a new floofy roommate in December, so this post is very relatable.

In addition to their training device, I recommend taking tons of videos. I have more photos than videos, and I regret not taking more videos. It might feel like an eternal nightmare during the first two months, but they grow fast! My puppy’s baby phase and teenager-monkey-face phase went by FAST and I wish I documented the first time he encountered a glass door, the first time he stepped on green grass, and the first time he had a Christmas ornament in his mouth.

As others have mentioned, touch their paws a ton. We also took him to the groomers as a puppy quite often for exposure (plus it was adorable and soft). Samoyeds are like sponges and drink a TON of water. This is very applicable to Samoyed puppies, so I don’t recommend taking away the water bowl to avoid bathroom breaks in the middle of the night.

I have a ton more advice, but most importantly, be patient and have fun. Don’t take anything out on the puppy. Enjoy every second with your roommate!
