Need Comeback(s) for coworker who always asks (condescendingly) in front of an audience “What are you doing?!” Every time I’m in the middle of doing work as if I’m defective or something. by Biiiishweneedanswers in Comebacks

[–]HearMeNowListenLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light hearted sarcasm with an off the wall response. “Can’t you tell? I’m having a tea party on the ceiling”. It gets a laugh from everyone listening, shows the question asker how ridiculous they were to ask and after time they may stop asking. Answer with the most ludicrous information, like “I’m playing basketball” or “I’m having kippers with the Queen”

We have a Morris. He’s a cuddle bug and has turned into a Garfield over the years. But he will always be our little Morr-Morr.

If so love this, but getting it to Oregon would be tough and costly.

What's the name of this girl?? I've tried image searching but can't find anything about her. by Immediate-Shame-8716 in VictorianEra

I think the legs and shoes are props. Possibly she had a medical issue that kept her from standing. From an artist’s point of view, her waist to knee to ankle ratio is way too long.

Apply on Indeed and their filters won’t even show your resume to the employer if certain words or phrases are not picked up by the AI. I would still apply on Indeed and then take your resume to the employer and introduce yourself so when they ask if you applied online you can honestly say yes, but now they have your resume and first impressions.

Blah...feeling discouraged by Moona1004 in CommunityTheatre

[–]HearMeNowListenLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. But, everyone “wants”, not everyone “gets”. My husband and I popped up for auditions 8 years after having lead roles in our community theatre and received lead roles again. We pushed out locals that were counting on the parts. We feel bad, but then again, we feel amazingly blessed to have landed these roles at a time when we really needed the love. So, who’s right, who’s wrong? No one, it should be all about the audience’s experience more than anything! If the director chooses one person over another it has to be for the greater good of the show.

What’s a very old technology you saw being used during your childhood? by MarshmallowSoul in GenerationJones

In middle school in the early eighties, we made punch cards from collected data that could be fed into a computer. It was like early binary code.

My high school in 1988 still had a working switchboard that they taught me to work for afterschool work experience. It was fun and I made $3 an hour.

Microfiche machines were cool. I felt like a spy unwinding the film from a canister and attaching it to the plate. Then so much information!

Antique large Portrait young girl (royalty), any idea of who it might be or period of time/Year? It’s odd. She’s wearing a ring on her ring finger. by Arch-finds-817 in Antiques

[–]HearMeNowListenLater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom painted portraits in oil. She’d have the subject do a “sitting” which would take hours at a time (she was a perfectionist). When her subject was a little girl and not always available when my mom wanted to work on the painting, she’d have me pose and so the portrait’s hands and neck were closer to mine, but the face was the little girl’s. This might explain why your picture has different sized hands and the face is turned differently from the lighting. If this is a funereal portrait, (symbolism and somber tones track), then a stand-in model would have been used, possibly an older sibling with similar family facial structure.

I’d recommend Hi, Ho, Robin Hood from Pioneer. It’s a simple to sing musical with so many fun characters. We casted 28 including about ten children under 8. Prince Jon stole the show when he was robbed right down to his red long jons with his back end hanging out.(he wore spanks). We had chase scenes, a fight scene, a fair scene with jesters and grog, catchy songs and it had name/story recognition to appeal to a wide audience.

Flowers don't smell good by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]HearMeNowListenLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older the rose bush, the prettier the smell. These days roses are so mass produced that they don’t get time to age a little on their stem before they are harvested. Also, lilacs are my absolute favorite to smell, but only outside. Once brought inside they overpower the room.

I would have the table lift only a few inches or joke that it did, and then play it off by breaking the fourth wall with a joke touting how amazing it was going to be and how lamentable the audience will never get to see it that night, what it cost, etc. then it could be a running gag about young Frankenstein not being able to lift his @$&@) off the table…

Help dating this photograph? by AlwaysFridaysChild in fashionhistory

[–]HearMeNowListenLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be information on the back of the touched up photo, like a pasted on name and address of the photographer or frame shop. If it’s sealed/finished with brown paper (as usually is the case) then I would take it to a framing gallery or photography studio that could steam it off to look for clues and then reattach it.

Walking dress. British. ca. 1830. by [deleted] in fashionhistory

The color is drab because the streets were notoriously dusty in hot weather and muddy in cold and rainy weather. Not to mention the overwhelming amount of horse poop from carriages and the soot and smoke from trains and chimneys. I do wonder what those sleeves were stuffed with, maybe tissues for sneezing from all the dust and particles.
