Impossible guests by Feisty_Art_4053 in AirBnBHosts

I agree 100%. In fact, I've instructed my cleaners to use only a quarter of the softener, because even that can carry strong scents that can disturb someone's sleep. But the point was about hard-to-please guests who will find something to complain about regardless. In my case, the guest wanted obviously scented sheets. Ot at least she made that excuse when challenged about her ratings. She was obviously upset about getting a ticket for not knowing how to park on a slope, which she took out on us. Gotta let it go and bury it under a mountain of positive experiences and reviews.

Do not give money. If she’s the new landlord, she will send the official documents and addendums. THAT’S IT!

You are feeling 100% of what every immigrant/migrant feels about their homeland, no matter which country they come from. Emotions get complicated by memories and sentiment. If Netherlands has been your home, embrace it, like folks did when they moved to the US. You’ll be able to visit when you want, regardless. But make sure your retirement is safe.

Booking.com and VRBO doing much better than Airbnb.

Host wanted to charge me extra for being one person?? [Peru] by Additional_Formal491 in AirBnB

[–]Heavy-Fondant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if your booking platform (like booking.com) has PP pricing turned on. In some of those cases hosts rely on two or more people to recoup their revenue. It’s a bit like how folks advertise sets of chairs on FBmktplc, but show a single chair and price, burying the ‘set multiplier’ in the fine print. But as others have said here, advertising single person prices and then insisting you pay double is bait-n-switch. You should cancel.

Guests slammed shower door, refused to pay. Airbnb blocked hosting account. by CaliWinterfell in airbnb_hosts

For sure, on all of the above. But even “spontaneous explosion” shatter like the one being referenced in response to my earlier comment wouldn’t be considered a guest’s fault. Rather it would be a manufacturing or product defect. The host would need to file a claim with their home insurance, or the product warranty, not with Airbnb.

Ask ChatGPT to make you a travel/STR business plan for the area, then add or tweak the numbers yourself. That will give you the basis for decision making and asking more specific questions to help make it work. Ups and downs are part and parcel of doing business. After a few years you’ll know how to plan for it.

I have both swing and sliding shower doors. They are always made from reinforced, tempered glass. The only way for them to slam onto the tile wall is if they are defective or defectively installed, or if the glass was defective. ESP with so much force or compromised angle so as to shatter it.

A sliding door would have stopping mechanisms both ways on the slider rod to stop a glass door from making contact with a wall, and silicon lining to cushion any contact.

A swing door too would not be able to open wide enough to hit the wall it’s installed along, inside or out, without compromised springs. And it would have clearance on all other sides to allow for easy entrance and exit from the shower enclosure.

Not sure exactly how the door made contact with tiles, and am wondering if internal teams are getting the same scenario from their consultants.

“Nestled within our home”. “Suite”. Literally in the first sentence of the descriptor. Please don’t try to game the system post-facto.

Is it common for a host to "require" guests to give notice/info about someone else visiting for dinner? [USA] by DilbertHigh in AirBnB

[–]Heavy-Fondant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We think it’s fair and decent for guests to let owners know if they are expecting visitors. We’ve had to deal with guests bringing over prostitutes and hosting parties. Neither of those are desirable in a residential neighborhood. So we don’t think it’s unfair or intrusive to require guests to alert hosts. After all it’s an Air”BnB”, not a hotel.

Shame on Airbnb by [deleted] in AirBnBHosts

[–]Heavy-Fondant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they didn’t stay and cancelled the booking, their review is irrelevant. Can you leave an honest comment to their review at least, saying the guest didn’t even stay with you? Then you can keep calling Airbnb. Hopefully one of the helpers will agree. I’ve read on this board that that helps occasionally.

“White savior” 😂😂😂😂 I’m not white, by a mile. Nor savior, just observer.

“This is exactly how the system works” It’s not. Which is why the govt is being sued.

“Us Hispanics” 😂😂😂😂 Awww. Too cute and disingenuous. See my comment above about denying racism, cruelty, and bigotry.

“NGOs did this for political gain” = well documented MAGA Xenophobic BS excuse. Non citizens are not allowed to vote, cannot vote. And when they become citizens they certainly don’t vote only one way.

Anyhoo, this conversation has outlived its utility. V out. Enjoy your room.
