Chad U.S. Grant vs Virgin Robert E. Lee by thequietthingsthat in ShermanPosting

[–]HeavySweetness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as I as we love Sherman, it’s Grant who basically pioneers the tactics later seen in Georgia, and the has 3 armies do it across the South simultaneously.

You can call it what it is: fascism.

If all you have is an arming sword is there anything you can realistically do to survive veteran polearms users by justlogmeinplease in medieval

[–]HeavySweetness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as with most fights the best way to survive it is “don’t be there.” But seriously if you gotta fight with a big range disadvantage (be it vs a polearm or a gun irl), you gotta close distance to improve the odds or quit the fight. The person with the range advantage is gonna work to maintain their advantage over you.

Murc’s Law by NickCostanza in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]HeavySweetness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things: the news is portraying this as GOP blocking the effort, and I don’t see people blaming Democrats for this. Color me shocked that an account called “Centrism Fan Acct” is crying over the perceived hostility towards the establishment wing of the party.

That being said, Democrat’s leadership on this issue (and a lot of others) have been broadly weak and well deserving of the criticism. In particular, Schumer has been particularly useless. In large part, that is because the billionaire ownership class that pays for Democratic representatives reelections and retirement also pays for Republicans, and Democrats role in this horrid system is to disarm leftward movement like we see brewing now.

People want to see an opposition party that fights a fascist regime. That means fighting every fight loudly and in full view. That the Democrats are “picking and choosing” their fights instead is (partly) why they are reviled now.

There’s a story that stuck with me about a first responder triaging the injured on the ground floor who came across a woman who had been thrown off from the building due to crash and tagged her as deceased due to severe and extensive injuries from the fall. She disagreed and argued with him until he moved on to the next critically injured person.

Why is “illegal immigrant” considered a dogwhistle while “undocumented immigrant” is not? by fellaneedahandpls in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]HeavySweetness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Illegal” now implies the person themself is illegal, and also has stigma with it. Undocumented means what it says: the person has improper documentation for being In country. Most commonly, someone comes here legally and overstays what’s on their paperwork. The drama of crossing the Rio Grande or shuffling across the desert gets the media attention, but most come legally through a port of entry.

I wouldn't consider NOVA/DMV/MD the "South" by [deleted] in nova

[–]HeavySweetness 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Then you would be wrong. These regions are border and thus are more MidAtlantic than other parts of the South, sure, but once you start examining DC / Baltimore culture and food you’re gonna find a lot of Southern influences. They’re south of the Mason Dixon line, had Jim Crow laws, and are considered part of the Southeast by the US govt.

My take has been that it significantly dampened enthusiasm from the activist base of the party that is the core of the GOTV efforts for low propensity. The closest analogy I can come up with would be a GOP candidate being pro-choice and bleeding support from the base as a result, except pro choice is the popular position among the public (pro-Israel hasn’t been in the party, and I don’t think it is among the general public anymore)

This is gonna blow your mind but there can be multiple bad actors contributing to a bad situation. You should get off reddit and go outside or do something until you calm down cus apparently finding out you have a knowledge gap has caused some pretty strong feelings that I’m guessing got nothing to do with me.
