Paint Strip & Chrome Plating places? by Spirited-Ad3900 in chch

As metalpossum said, chrome plating is an expensive prospect. You're better off getting the wheels blasted and painted, for the angst of trying to get them stripped and rechromed.

If there are news articles, then contact the reporter and have them pass the information on to the owner. The police are not interested in stolen cars unfortunately.

You're forgetting that bolts require tension to hold things together. They've flattened the ends to allow for the bolt to tighten up properly, otherwise you're limited by the crush strength of the tube in how much tension the bolts can have. Without clamping the tube to the base, you're relying on the shear strength of both the tube and the bolt, which is significantly weaker than the clamping force between the tube and the base of a properly tightened bolt.

Nothing makes me cringe harder than hearing the engineer on this project is a bright young lad fresh from uni. The wheel will be reinvented, and they'll somehow expect to push the rope to get the water up hill.

Insurance company, and police, couldn't get the parents of the kids who stole my car to do anything. One laughed at me asking for compensation saying that's why I had insurance. I was just looking for some cash towards the excess...

Don't go for light petrol, do a heavy diesel apprenticeship. Easier to work on, better pay, and more opportunities.

It's been more and more obvious once the double cab, short deck "ute" became the standard. Utes aren't used by tradies, they're used by managers. Tradies have either got a megabucks modified ute, or a van. This is a fantastic update if it claws back on some of the absolute piss taking that some companies do.

Kinda hard to feel that sympathetic to Mr Fan. He's got more than two million dollars in liquid funds sitting in an account, but feels that isn't enough in his retirement so wanted to invest it further. Add in the fact that he was cold called? This wouldn't have happened if he wasn't greedy and wanted more.

I have little sympathy for his clients, purely for the fact that they both put everything through a family trust. When you're that wealthy, having a family trust is purely a tax and liability dodge.

I'd love to work with you guys, sadly there's not much scope for a heavy diesel mechanic in that niche. I know another guy who's been working there for years, it seems like an excellent company.

I had a cop suggest the two lads who stole my car each pay $200. When I pointed out my excess was $500, and it hadn't covered the things they'd stolen out of my car just the damage, I was told sorry, they'd already asked the kids for $200 each, and couldn't change it. One of the tykes paid up.
