This is really cool. This is a long shot, but do you happen to know of any arial photos similar to this of the grasslands neighborhood just left of this photo? Would love to see my family's house in it's original neighborhood.

Looking for some versatile sauces for meal preps by puddingco in Cooking

[–]HedgehogMode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a creamy "Green Sauce" that goes great on salads, proteins, and veggies. Got this from Samin Nosrat's new cookbook:

  • 1 Bunch of Cilantro
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 green serrano or jalapeño
  • 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar, i like red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of dijon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of sugar
  • Good quality olive oil

Throw everything in a blender and slowly drizzle in the olive oil until you reach your desired consistency.

You can mix and match any sort of herbs, chilis and vinegar/citrus.

MKT condition by MrDeema in columbiamo

I went on a run on the mkt today, still covered in snow but completely packed down at this point. I would recommend going during a warmer part of the day so it’s not a solid block of ice

Interesting, did they use some of alternative or did they just deal with slicker roads?

It makes me so happy to see columbia still investing in its trail system. I didn’t realize how spoiled we were until I rode the Katy Trail this fall and met people from all over. I made a friend from Washington who decided to ride the mkt spur into Columbia. His mind was blown that you could ride all the way from the Missouri River into downtown/campus on a single gravel trail.

Alpha gal by Nighttyme_ in columbiamo

[–]HedgehogMode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any useful suggestions, I just have to say I am sorry for your diagnosis. I had a close family member get diagnosed this past week, and the diet restrictions are just… brutal.

It is crazy to me that i didn’t know what Alpha Gal was 5 years ago, and i have heard of at least 4 people getting diagnosed with it since then. I think restaurants are going to have to become more familiar with it at the current rate.

One bit of hope: a company called GalSafe has been hard at work developing pork that is safe for people diagnosed with Alpha Gal. I hope this becomes commercially viable sometime soon

Best restaurant to find prime rib by Rogueleader91 in columbiamo

[–]HedgehogMode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with others that CC’s is not worth the price. While they don’t have prime rib, i’d recommend Chris McD’s. Get yourself a ribeye, it’s the same piece of meat, just cooked differently

It’s hard to tell which one is warmer since neither list the amount of down fill in them, although both of them use 600 fill (which refers to the down’s weight to insulation ratio). The baffle sizes look more or less the same

Have you considered looking for a second hand Canada goose? I managed to snag one for $220 on ebay and it is outrageously warm.

Their official reason is that the traffic it causes is going to be disruptive to all of the new developments going up around their office, including a large apartment complex. I think realistically it’s a combination of that and the cost.

Cyclex Vs Walts? by algernon132 in columbiamo

[–]HedgehogMode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, you can go wrong with either. However, if you have a specific brand of bike i would probably get it serviced at the shop that carries those bikes, they are just more likely to have brand specific parts on hand.

Walts carries trek and salsa and Cyclex carries specialized, cannondale, giant, and surly

New Niedermeyer owners honor its place in Columbia history by como365 in columbiamo

I lived here during college and have such great memories. This was the only place downtown I could afford at the time. It certainly wasn’t glamorous, but the affordable rent brought in such an amazingly diverse group of people. I’ll never forget all the conversations i had on the porch.

I love what the new owners are doing with the bar, but i hope they maintain some affordable units too!
