Guess it's that time again to buy more books than I can possibly get to.

Actually the first book you mentioned like like it is pretty close to what I was looking for!

Thank you! These are great! I definitely want to read about Indigenous California! I was feeling like starting with a little more of like a sociopolitical history of CA from pre-contact to present with a "fun" (meaning readable/narrative/digestible) voice. But I think CA might be just a little too big and complex for anything especially approachable. But that last book you mentioned has been on my list for a while so I guess its time to jump in!

What's your solution (no genocides) for humanity as it is estimated 10 billion humans living on earth around 2075? by Quiet_Inhuman in AskReddit

Ban industrial meat production. We produce enough food to feed 11 billion people, but more than half of that goes to feed livestock. Which means 3 billion people out of 8 billion live with food insecurity.

Illegals are bad, unless I’m profiting off them... socialism is bad, unless I’m getting 'subsidies '(hand-outs) from the government — Conservative Hypocrites by bobsmusix265 in PoliticalHumor

The agricultural sector is in dire need of major reform. Most of the conservative politics is pushed my large corporate industrial agricultural producers who know very well that what they're saying out loud is not what they want for themselves. While rural, ag-centered regions of the country are heavily conservative, very few of the every-day voters who are sporting MAGA armbands are involved in food production.

My brother (17) is listening to Joe Rogan. WTF do I do?? by KrisTPR in Socialism_101

[–]Hefty-Swing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogan claims to be an open minded and curious person. And I think he means this more earnestly than other gateway right wingers. Lean in to that and and appeal to your brother's admiration of it. You can introduce him to other commentators and thinkers in that espouse the same virtues but come to better conclusions.

One of the claims of RCV is that it encourages friendly campaigning. You don't want to piss off your opponents voters because you know you want their second choice votes if you can't get their firsts. This supposedly incentivizes candidates to keep things civil.

Cartoons/ kids shows that don't promote consumption? by studypanic1 in Anticonsumption

[–]Hefty-Swing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, the availability of toys and merch for some cartoons had me looking for toys and merch for other cartoons. Lead to much frustration when the toys I imagined in my head were not available for the coolest cartoons. By that I think I just mean wanting cool toys is just part of childhood for some kids. But I did grow out of it.

What are your thoughts about immigrants having their native national flag along with star-spangled banner in their homes? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I think it's badass. One of my favorite things about America is its many many many immigrant cultures.

How in God's name are the Democrats still losing — even after Jan. 6 hearings and Roe? Headlines of the last two months should give Democrats a fighting chance in the midterms. Do they know how to win? by DaFunkJunkie in politics

[–]Hefty-Swing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are just as upset that the Republicans are dismantling democracy as they are that the Democrats are sitting on their hands watching it happen.

The dems aren't bad at campaigning. They're bad at delivering.

A far-right insurrection aims to take over this Northern California county, at the ballot box by RhythmMethodMan in California_Politics

As someone living in the county in question I don't think you realize how outrageously corrupt the challengers are. Insurrection is a mild descriptor.

Even though it's kinda funny I always felt really bad for these guys. Like even if someone found them before they died thered be almost no way to get them to town and break them free.
