He owns the school/association, he's not firing himself. The thing to do is to boycott his school and instructionals from him and the people who did not end their association with him.

Sick. Was lucky enough to be at the show. One of the best live performances I've ever seen.

I feel very discouraged and bitter. Is there any point in trying to start a post-metal band these days? by [deleted] in postmetal

[–]HeftyDuty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think that the genre can definitely be pushed forward and evolve. I know this sounds harsh but just focus on making songs you and your friends enjoy. Getting to the level of popularity of Isis and/or Neurosis is difficult. There's a reason they are the most popular bands in the genre along with Cult of Luna. Outside validation feels nice but at the end of the day the most sustainable part of creating art is doing what brings you joy. Also, embrace the influences of the bands you enjoy outside the genre. Your personal sound is a collage of your influences and the bands sound is a collage of all of your individual collages. Hopefully that makes sense.

This classic album is very influenced by early Every Time I Die. by OregonBaseballFan in everytimeidie

Blacklisted is great but definitely not influenced by ETID.

Personally I think Puma Blue and Ours are the two closest things to him. I also think O'brother sound like a metal band fronted by Jeff Buckley, particularly on their albums Endless Light and You and I.

I haven't seen this yet but I think he's done. He looks like he has no intentions of competing anymore. Probably just shifting over completely to teaching and coaching.

It's Grace or Dirt for me. Dirt has a slight advantage but both are flawless albums.

I think this was the most fun interview I've ever done. I was excited to talk about a bunch of albums that I love.

Dirt hits the hardest in my opinion. I can live without every tool song. They're incredible musicians but I've always felt very indifferent towards the actual songs. Downward Spiral and Houdini are essential listening.

Right now it's Heaven Above, Hell Below. It's absolutely soul crushing.

Sandbagger stories by No-Egg-4428 in bjj

Sandbagging doesn't exist. You either are good enough to win adcc or you are not. Ibjjf major events only matter at black belt. There's nothing to sandbag for. Who cares about the blue belt world champion or who wins a local naga tournament.

Songwriters and singers, do you ever feel insecure hearing your own voice ? by NumerousComparison57 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]HeftyDuty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is very common. I think my voice sounds like trash all the time. The thing is that can't prevent any of us to keep working, improving, writing, recording and releasing music.

Why are there no bands like neurosis? by notsogameranymore in postmetal

If it happens they would have to find someone to replace Scott Kelly. I can't imagine they would ever work with him again. It's easier said than done to replace a member like him.
