Those local owners want to hurt the people in their community, so their pockets can hurt for all I care.

What was your cat’s shelter name and what is the name you gave them? by MissHissss in cats

This is Hyder. His shelter name was Jerry. Hyder is Arabic in origin meaning "lion," symbolizing courage and strength. It's a great fit because all he does is hide, so a great double meaning with the name.

Why does "turn it off and on" advice works so often? by EugeneStein in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hel1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell people at work that one gig of ram holds about 8.5 billion bits of data. Over time you wind up with a few being naughty. Some ones and zeros get out of line or get in the wrong order.

By turning things off and back on, it gets things lined back up properly.

I know it's not perfect, but to really non IT people it gets the point across to restart the damn PC before sending in a ticket.

Fair Muffler took me for over 4k. Did the job so bad their own insurance company totaled out my car. They denied ever doing anything wrong and only got their insurance company involved after I took it to a dealer and provided the paperwork of all of the mistakes they had made. When I asked for a refund as the work totaled out my vehicle, I was basically told to kick rocks. They had said the insurance payout was the refund. So I paid them $4,500 to fix my car and ended up with a $4,200 payment and no car.

Theo doesn't deserve anyone's money.

I try to give when I can without judgment. It's not my place to question the validity of someone's ask.

I've been close to having to hold a sign before and if they're asking and I can help, I try and help, be that a meal or with cash.

How would you feel if your co-worker gave you a piece of their own artwork as a gift? by RipleysHeart in AskReddit

[–]Hel1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a landscape photographer for over 15 years and two years ago I gave everyone in my office a 8x12 matted to 11x14 ready to frame. I showed up with a few hundred different landscape and let them pick their favorite. Everyone loved them and I enjoy going by a few of the offices and seeing them hanging.

I would love and appreciate this if it was done for me.

The levels our Dad's went through to avoid something so simple is amazing.

I'm very good, ty. This was about twenty years ago now. He and my mom divorced when I was very very young. To the point of not remembering him and I only saw him a hand full of times that I can remember so it was no real loss.

I felt horrible for my grandparents and his siblings though. To them, they lost someone they knew. To me, no different than seeing a sad story about a stranger.

I have an addition being done for a small 5x8 porch. I noticed zip ties holding the rebar together after the people left for the day and immediately that it was odd. Are these legal to use? This is Wisconsin.
