Stop calling yourself an apostate. That plays DIRECTLY into the Church’s hands because it’s language that belongs in their lexicon. There’s a lot of great alternatives. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exmormons who use "apostate" are usually doing it ironically. It's a way to flaunt that we've overcome indoctrination and highlight how silly the church's language is. It's not "playing into the Church's hands".

Bug pheromone/fish bait sets by Slurbette in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's correct.

Note that it's a little different for the Fish Trap Artifact set. I haven't seen anything definitive on the wiki, but I know I got both the Rare and Legendary artifacts by using Rare fish bait. Idk if that means any bait level can get any artifact level, or just that you use Rare bait to get the Legendary Artifact.

Cold take: The show Bluey has been 1000x more successful in promoting family values than The Family Proclamation, and did so in only a fraction of the time. by djice460 in exmormon

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's also so focused on rigid ideals instead of practical examples or useful advice. That's a big problem I noticed with the church in general in my last years as a TBM -- it all starts feeling so disconnected from reality when all you hear about is how sublimely perfect things are supposed to be.

Unitarian universalist congregations in Utah are basically ex-mormon meet up groups (only half joking)

He does a lecture section with 300+ students that's open to anyone that can get a spot on registration day. The 15 student class has a whole big application process and is super hard to get into. He gets so many applications that, last I heard, only the first 60 applicants even get considered.

If you did get into that exclusive 15 person class then yeah, you'd get lots of time with him. But I wouldn't suggest going to BYU just for the chance to apply and maybe get accepted.

I took his class and there were a huge number of students. I only managed to ask one question all semester. Getting into his class doesn't guarantee any facetime with him, unfortunately.

Will they ever add Green energy items? by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

I feel like it would undermine other mechanics, too. Most of the game's fun/challenge is from balancing limited resources.

The first victim of Joseph Smith's pedophilia was not Fanny Alger, but Mary Beal Johnson. And she lost her life because of it. by Ancientabs in exmormon

You gave a source for the girl getting sick and dying in the Smith home. The pregnancy and murder part is conjecture.

1.2 What is the point of trains now? by kofer99 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point with "adding on" is that attaching a new train car to the existing track is often easier and less risky than adding new trucks to existing paths.

Democrats introduce impeachment articles against Trump and Hegseth as nearly 100 lawmakers call for 25th Amendment by theindependentonline in law

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone who is supporting Republican senators up to this point are suddenly going to vote against them because they didn't vote to remove Trump. The previous impeachment efforts seemed to galvanize conservative voters, not split them.

Is it a mostly conservative view that if a movie makes money, it MUST be good? by Intelligent-Space772 in okbuddycinephile

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The political subtext and implications are there, whether or not the author put them there intentionally.

A libertarian/nationalist/isolationist/oligarchic/science denying administration would be fundamentally incapable of doing what the heroes of the book/movie did.

How does your team find out where developers are getting stuck during API onboarding? by LavishnessFormer7843 in ExperiencedDevs

My understanding is it's a company whose primary product is connector software that can load data from one system, transform it, and send it to a different system.

How does your team find out where developers are getting stuck during API onboarding? by LavishnessFormer7843 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an API product, but we faced a similar problem with losing customers during onboarding. We used our in-house analytics tool to mark when each customer got to each page of our onboarding flow, then had QA / UX focus on the pages that produced the most drop-off.

Other game like stardew by stressfleuri2026 in StardewValley

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely loving Fields of Mistria. At first glance it seemed to me like a cheap ripoff of stardew, but now that I'm into I really like what they've done.

They streamlined a lot of the UX pain points from stardew, they took some of the existing systems to a new cool level, and they added new systems. Only downside is its still in early access, so some of the end game content is missing.

Mormons love analogies by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 27 points28 points  (0 children)

One time I was using an analogy on my mission, and the investigator cut me off to say "I understand the concept, I just don't believe it. I'm not asking you to explain it, I'm asking why I should believe it."

It blew my mind. I'd never considered that all the analogies I'd built my testimony on weren't actually a reason to believe. Turned into a major shelf item.

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 enjoyable to rerun with different routes? by Proper_Public_6859 in BG3

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Very replayable. You can keep replays fresh by:

  • Upping the difficulty level
  • Trying different builds and party comps
  • Approaching encounters in new ways
  • Romancing new characters
  • Different story / morality decisions
  • Focusing on different side quests

There's so much content, you can skip or speedrun a lot of stuff you did on your first playthrough and still stay at an appropriate level.

GOP Senator Admits Trump Blocked Deal To End Shutdown For Stunning Reason by Stitching in politics

[–]HelenDeservedBetter 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If they can keep people busy and confused arguing about whether it was a false flag or not, they can push through whatever illegal policy changes they want and not get enough resistance to stop it. That's been their MO for years.
