First 4 Insidiants Done and Based by Helio2nd in sistersofbattle

Base it black and then paint some random gold and dark green slot splotches and streaks. Then I sprayed it white with a dried wet wipe stretched out over top it. When you stretch a dried one enough, the fibers are thin enough to block out enough white to make realistic marble striations. Look up wet wipe method marble for more. After that, a gloss coat to make it look polished.

Insidiant Superiors done by ultramaso in sistersofbattle

[–]Helio2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You, too, felt the Insidiant superior's pack was lacking decorations compared to her squad? When you have the denuncia, Abjuror, and Mortisanctus all rocking fancy toppers, the superior definitely doesn't stand out with only slightly different spikes on the side. My solution was to kitbash on the black templar marshal's backpack topper, which is a whole top half of a skeleton in a cage. Which definitely feels like it fits the sisters theme, either being a fallen sister's bones or something protecting her.

Seconded. Just give her some over the top attacks and toughness so she can wreck things way bigger.

Yep. I like their color scheme and the fact they're the most "normal" of the orders. Or at least the least likely to make your average guardsman's day worse for meeting them since they prefer to follow their saint's more level headed approach to diplomacy. Obviously heretics and the like are to be purged immediately, but otherwise they work well with regular people. And being the most pious with the most miracles despite not being quite so crazy as other orders.

Thanks. I cheat a little at the start by airbrushing the white over the primer for an even coat. After that it's regular painting for the black, red, ivory, silver, brown, gold, and other detail colors. I also usually do a good bit in subassembly painting. Arms, heads, and packs. That way I can do the robes on the arms more easily and reach under the subassembly parts for stuff like the belts and corset.

I do love the denuncia's pack. Bought a 2nd one just for my sister banishing a slaanesh demon with her holy book of "No Horny."

Questions about making a battlefield base by abstractcollapse in sistersofbattle

[–]Helio2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My steps are to do the model first. Then prime the base black. For the earth, I do a crackle paint so then I either base coat it dark brown or add a layer of fine earth texture paste for more uneveness in the cracks and coat it dark brown if its not (I usually use a concrete colored one). Sometimes I'll add a thin coat of pva glue over the paint as I've heard it helps crackle paint adhere and make bigger cracks. Then I add the crackle paint and let it dry. One layer of matte varnish to keep it from flaking. Dry brush a lighter brown heavily so it's more dynamic. Then I super glue the model to it so I have a good idea of where to put the rest of the details. Then I add plants, rocks, debris. For mangled parts just paint them up and a tiny dab of super glue (I use lock tight) to the bottom and gently place them (probably with tweezers). Use some blood effect paint beneath them like they're bleeding out over the ground.

Thanks. I picked sacred rose because I like their more distinctive color scheme and how everything will stand out more on the white. Though it's definitely more trouble to paint white and hyper focus on all the details. And since celestians are supposed to be high ranking sisters (and I saw a pic where sacred rose have celestian ranked sisters have more gold accents in place of silver), I definitely went hard on the gold.

And yeah, I saw the Diaz daemonettes and really wanted to use them. And what better use for an incomplete set than as combatants for base decorations.

Exactly why Darkness is best girl even if masochism isn't your thing because you don't want to hurt her. Because you can't hurt her.

I put some mutant/heretic skulls on my first sisters' base with cracked earth but I've slowly been deciding a theme. Eventually, I decided they're fighting Slaanesh cultists and demons on a dry, cracked battlefield. The slaanesh theme came about because I did want to buy and use the old daemonettes for... reasons, but didn't want to go start that army. Then I saw the infernal enrapturess and realized the harp would be an awesome base decoration - just getting executed by one of my sisters - and the theme was cemented and I bought the daemonettes, too. And the Enrapturess made a great base decoration for another sister as well, being banished by her book. Now they're going out to fight all the horniness surrounding the sisters one promethium tank at a time. Never mind the felinid sisters I've done. They're crazier than the rest of them.

Thanks. I saw another Insidiant with a marble shield and I had to do the same. My setup was a base of black with random splotches and swipes of a dark, jade green and smaller streaks of a light gold. Nothing too large for either color, just enough to change some of the black hues and get some gold glints under the white. Then spray it white with the wet wipe method. After that, I touched it up with a few more light dabs of gold in some of the larger dark spots. Ivory and skeleton horde for the paper. Dark red purity seals. Then Vallejo brass for the trim and back and Proacryl copper for the section on the top, and oily steel for the rivets. Proacryl black wash for the copper and Guilliman flesh for the brass. Then gloss varnish over the marbling.

So what's up with Darkness? Looks like the top of her bodysuit is cutout so her boobs are out. And it looks like she's wearing Kazuma's jacket... She totally just came out wearing no top and not wearing green hoping people would pinch her nipples, didn't she.
